  8. We had a tiny dove's nest on our front porch... Two of the little cuties. But two days after they first started flying, a hawk swooped in and grabbed one. I was sooo mad, and so was the mother.

  10. 10w60 was only for the pre-facelift M5s, IIRC. Oh, and I've totally done the exact same thing in my 530i! The car doesn't idle nicely when cold. No oil lost, though, just a diesel stink.

  11. Regarding the whole oil thing, like a few other comments: 5w30 is, I think, too thin. At high engine temps, this oil is going to thin out a lot, and at that point the Vanos units will have less precise engagements.   31. Oh yeah, GMR is nuts! No center line, so in my e39, even, it's pretty tight. But Tujunga is wild! Open, smooth, grippy (freshly paved last year), and with good sight lines, even my slowpoke 530i (top speed 126) can hit 110 mph. Throw something fast like a Viper or Corvette Z06? Probably upwards of 150.

  34. Pro-tip: to get heat out of the vents, leave the mode in "Auto" and the center vent temp dial at the neutral. The car expels hot air from the lower vents, warming your legs, and as it warms up air will begin to flow out of the top vents. I've never had a problem with heat delivery, but I do live in warm SoCal. Either way, I left it on auto for a trip up to the 30ºF mountains recently, and I never had a complaint about how it worked. YMMV.

  37. I plan to swap an S54 into an E39 at some point. I think it would be a unique swap, as I like the sound (and maintenance) of BMW's I6s over their V8s.

  39. How was the track? I've always wanted to get out to the Glen for a race. I've been to Laguna Seca a few times, and it's an awesome venue for spectators, as you can walk all over the place easily.

  45. If you really wanted to, you could fix that by switching one of the rear axles to a 530iA/525i rear axle (38mm on the M5 axle vs 32mm). The difference in diameter helps to reduce wheelhop; it's how GM suppressed wheel hop in the second generation CTS-V. I think you'd have to reinstall the M5 CV joint on the smaller axle, though, as the differential outputs are different. You also might want to check your forward rear subframe bushings; there is a support brace there that is designed to limit travel.
