Well, when debris is landing a kilometer away and getting embedded into the ground, that suggests a fairly catastrophic event to me.

The Austro-Hungarian empire collapsed at the end of the FIRST world war (during which time they had been fighting with Russia). The remnants, Austria and Hungary, were both in the Axis during WWII, one as a wholy owned subsidiary of Germany, and one as an ally of Germany.

@arthurdewith7608 I only knew one Hungarian very well. I don't recall any hard feelings toward Russia, but she despised communism. I was just a bit confused by the very mixed-up history in the first post. As I said, the AH Empire went to war with Russia in 1914 and subsequently collapsed in 1918. America had little to do with this. By alliance your friend perhaps meant the Warsaw Pact, which was formed in the 1950s and included Hungary. As to my personal opinion about Russia, I don't wish to see Russia destroyed; that would create chaos and misery. I would just like to see Russia under saner management.

F-14s? Are you sure they weren't F-4s or F-104s?
1
@jrran8650 I think the number of Americans who support Putin, or who profess to, are worth a bit of scrutiny. Especially since Putin has an obsessive hatred for the US. There are many topics to study in this conflict. My personal favorite is the Russian propaganda, and this sort of fits in with that.
1
A lot of those war widows appear to be in their 60s and 70s. Is Putin now emptying out nursing homes to man his army?
1
Also, those fur coats are now subject to a wartime luxury tax.
1
Or hailing a 'John'.
1
Has Russia thanked Spain for the rescue? Do they even have that much class?
1
I wanna hear more about that giant Ferris wheel in Moscow - the one Putin was so proud of, which broke down the very next day after its grand opening
1
Has Jake ever covered the antics of Belarussian prankster/activist Vladislav Bokhan? The guy sends false instructions to Russian teachers, telling them to wear tinfoil helmets to express their support for Russian defense, or pose with pictures of Stepan Bandera, or identify school kids who belong in the Gulag. They regularly fall for it. Russians will do anything if they think it is an edict from The Authorities.

1.000 cubic meters is 1000, not 1. (Europeans use periods in numbers where we use commas.)
1
The notion of an elite shrink-wrapping brigade is hilarious, but you are in fact right.
1
Maybe Solovyov's son will return from London and mate with all the war widows. Well, maybe not him..........
1
Ummmmm, it was a joke. Nobody believes Spain is going to invade Portugal.
1
Why didn't the Norks put the Putin portrait the Ryugyong hotel? Or are they still pretending it doesn't exist?
1
maracas are a luxury item in Russia. they have to make do.
1
Putin is going to draft every Russian male who is over 5 foot six, so he can be the tallest man in Russia. Also any Russian man with a full head of hair. Also any Russian male younger than him.
1
Well, if Ukraine is too cold for them, I'm not too sure how they might fare in Northern Alaska. And if they are afraid of rats, try wolverines and polar bears. Not many opportunities to loot food either. The place is pretty sparsely populated, and the people who are there have rifles. No, Alaska is not fertile ground for Russian expansion any more.
1
most American don't believe FOX News. And the propaganda in our news is NOTHING to what the Russians get fed. You should watch some of the more choice clips Jake airs...
1
Historically, Russia never fought a short war because war was a convenient way to dispose of surplus population. But, I don't think they have a surplus for this go-around.
1
I don't think breaking Russia up into dozens of pieces would be good - it would create a lot of misery and chaos. Also, it seems that this is precisely what they are afraid of - they keep claiming that if they don't prevail in Ukraine, the whole nation will cease to survive. Is there something we can do to guarantee to the Russians (outside of Putin's circle) that the country will remain intact regardless of the outcome of Putin's ill-fated enterprise?
1
US wasn't a British colony in 1830. That said, if we are going back to the age of European empires, then yes GB gets the US, Canada (the French can keep Quebec), Australia, India, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Singapore, and a whole bunch of African countries.
1
So FFS tell the GOP to pick someone decent.
1
Given how badly Russians handle logistics, the Alaskans won't have to do much - all the mobniks will freeze, starve, or get eaten by bears.
1
I dunno - that 40 mile traffic jam at the beginning of the conflict didn't exactly shout out 'Ho Chi Minh' to me.
1
Not first! Damn, I NEVER am!
1
Practically NOBODY who has been under Russian rule seems to like them. Sure, the Russians have their fanboys in Africa, South America, India, etc, but just about every former SSR or Warsaw Pact country - anyone who was under their control - loathes them.
1
Apparently the original included some footage of Prigozhin's daughter twerking. Can't make money on YT that way.......
1
Shhhh.......It's all the ribbing about being short that made him such a vicious little mutt in the first place!
1
Fox says 'Stop naming fake news networks after me!'
1
I love the vintage Olga Skabeyeva footage! She's so adorable - is she still on tv? I haven't seen any recent clips of her, and worry that perhaps she fell afoul of the Kremlin.
1
They're already emptying the female prisons.
1
Is Solovyov's son going to come back and take a commission?
1
Text of invitation to the Kremlin New Years party: 'Anybody found guilty of not having a good time will be thrown from a window'.
1
Look, I hate to throw Ukraine under the bus with my vote this fall, but I need Trump to protect my cat and dog from Haitian immigrants.
1
Oh, I should have watched a couple of minutes before posting.
1
It had been determined months earlier that the USSR would take Berlin. Patton wanted to, but was told 'no'. Of those 30 million Soviets who died, the dead were disproportionately Ukrainian. And yet, now Putin appropriates all the glory for Russia.
1
Jake has a lot to cover today
1
Let's face it - Putin wants to resurrect the Soviet Union. Besides wanting all the territories back, he waxes nostalgic for the autocratic control, the all-powerful KGB/FSB, the tight control over all media. Even the economy, dominated by a handful of government-approved oligarchs, is reminiscent of the centralized control the politbureau enjoyed. Yes, Putin tries to burnish his conservative credentials by whining about gays, but even that is a step back to communist times.
1
In a recent show, Solovyov claimed any Russian oil tycoon whose plant gets blown up is a traitor for not putting in anti-air defense. It's the plant manager's and plant owner's fault when drones and missiles hit the place - not Putin's or Shoigu's.
1
Jake usually publishes Tuesday, Thursday, Sunday. However I would expect that when there is really exciting news breaking, he would switch to a 24/7 livestream format. 😃
1
It's all part of the Muscovite propaganda. Having tourists playing on the beaches shows that a) Crimea is safely in Muscovite hands, and b) everyone there is happy. People are probably 'encouraged' to take their vacations there. And, if something does go terribly wrong, they can allege that Ukraine is murdering civilians on Holiday.
1
So they'll fire Gerasimov this summer?
1
I suspect most of the parts already WERE sold on ebay, over the last couple of decades.
1
Oh Heavens no! 8 year old dialog would be too complicated for the muscovite trolls who frequent this channel.
1
The most apt Shakespeare quote - '"Nothing in his life became him, like the leaving it". Macbeth Act 1, Scene 4
1
They do seem to be trying to distance themselves...
1
It'll be comical if the US Coast Guard has to rescue the Russian flotilla after it gets into the usual trouble.
1
Jake, if you are ever looking for another feel-good clip to end one of your shows, here is a link to a recording of Ukrainian troops march down the street singing the 'Putin Khuylo' (ie F*** Putin) song. https://www.youtube.com/shorts/1Y4DbxZbTUM
