True, but this video is in part disingenuous. There's some important stuff that they leave out: the desire to prevent people from being born into poverty, the desire to prevent people from being born into suffering of any type, the decline in total fertility rates we're seeing in most of the world, etc.

Does "unbiased expert" mean "someone I am already predisposed to agree with?"
2
I hope that you're being sarcastic.

@DiscipleOfTheKing True, and irrelevant. "Sex" is Latin for "six."
1
@DiscipleOfTheKing Human being? Of course. It's a question of personhood, i.e. the characteristics that make killing wrong: sentience, a will to live, preferences, hopes & dreams, biological autonomy, etc. In a rudimentary but genuine way, babies have personhood. Embryos don't, and can't. That comes later.
1
@DiscipleOfTheKing Yes, personhood is a philosophical stance. It's a philosophical argument. Yes, one can make those arguments, and there's been a lot of interesting discussion around it, usually centering on grievous defects. In fact, that sort of thing has not been uncommon throughout human history, including in (for example) some very Christian environments. As for when personhood arises, I'm not entirely sure, but I can tell you that it's long after nearly all (and perhaps entirely all) abortions occur.
1
@DiscipleOfTheKing No, it's not a case of taking another person's life, as embryos and fetuses don't have personhood. Of course we were all fetuses. That's beside the point. There's no harm in not being born.
1
@DiscipleOfTheKing Not at all. Human embryos and human fetuses are indeed human. When people talk about "the day before they're due" and that sort of thing, they're throwing out a red herring, deliberately or otherwise. This interview, with a doctor who has thorough knowledge of the situation, is illuminating: https://www.vox.com/2019/3/11/18246702/trump-abortion-ralph-northam-virginia-green-bay
1
Actually, the majority of women who have abortions identify with a religion. I am an atheist, but I wanted to point out your error.
1
The reason doesn't matter. Abortion is a morally neutral act.
1
Babies?
1
It's a big part of the reason why abortion rights are so important.
1
@shesworthy7217 You're Also, your comment makes no sense.
1
@christianuploads8292 There's no baby, and if somehow your ridiculous fantasy came to pass, you would have a lot of married women having abortions (many do already).
1
@christianuploads8292 Usually embryos, sometimes fetuses.
1
*Embryo (sometimes fetus)
1
@crash-ry3eq Precisely. Embryos and fetuses aren't babies; they don't have personhood yet, so the choice defaults to the host organism.
1
Igor Horváth Sure; see my other reply.

Igor Horváth You're already replying to it.

Hospitals don't want to deal with protestors (protesters?).

Encouraged? Really?

I was disappointed. There's some important stuff that they leave out: the desire to prevent people from being born into poverty, the desire to prevent people from being born into suffering of any type, the decline in total fertility rates we're seeing in most of the world, etc. I give thanks every day for my vasectomy.

This is, in part, disingenuous. For one thing, it doesn't mention that Total Fertility Rates are declining all over the world, very much so in much of Latin America and Asia. For another, it doesn't mention the desire to prevent people from being born into poverty and suffering. Would it be a bad thing if Haiti's population was shrinking? In fact, even people in better circumstances are better off not being born, because that means that they won't have to suffer through the climate crises. I'm also inclined to agree with David Benatar that the best possible outcome is to never be born.

Very true, but this video is, in part, disingenuous. I don't know anything about that one, but this video is, in part, disingenuous. @paulomilan515 Possibly. It could be just an oversight, but it's a big one.

"We came here because you went there" is a slogan that appeared in the UK when Brits started complaining about migrants.

@rustomkanishka No, of course not, and why would you ask?

?

People said that about my ancestors, and probably about yours as well.

@craigturner3237 "Race" is a social construct, but in any case, understand the defining role played by First World exploitation of the Third World.
1
Naturally, I see on the right side of the screen a link to a Thomas Sowell video that probably promotes this myth. It has over 700k views in two years. I'm so tired of people venerating that crackpot.

@1Humanoid To the extent that the modelling was wrong, it's because of (as this paper indicates) the great difficulties in doing so. There was no "agenda." Please get off of the conspiracy theories. This same paper indicates that masking is quite helpful. There's nothing in there about Switzerland, but it looks like the Swiss definitely did some locking down of their own, along with masking requirements.

True, although there's also the thought of sparing one's hypothetical children from a life of suffering.
1
@guardtheham1233 Human embryos & human fetuses aren't persons yet.
