While most happy to hear the story of the Olympia; you skipped over She is docked here in Philadelphia, PA! π€ It is part of the Independence Seaport Museum on the city's Delaware Riverfront along side the submarine Becuna. These days sadly, most tourists rather go across the river to Camden, NJ and visit the more impressive USS New Jersey. Leaving the Olympia under visited and underfunded. π

"This is going to be a fighting ship." "I Intend to go in Harm's Way, and anyone who doesn't want to go along had better get off right now." "Now that I have a fighting ship, I will never retreat from an enemy force." ~The Commission speech of The USS JOHNSTON by Commander Ernest E. Evans. USNA CLASS OF 1931. OCT. 27,1943.πΊπΈ Evans is likely one of the few Native American naval heroes. Born half Cherokee and 1/4 Creek Indian.

You realize your now going to face a sea of Coke vs Pepsi and Blonde vs. Brunette ship questions? π Good luck.

Mines.... Always looking for a ship to hug.π€
181
So.... We invented a air rifle that floats? π€ͺ
171
This may be outside the box, but how about a look at USN airships? The Akron & Macon and the flying carrier concept.

Β @bkjeong4302Β Nobody thought the Alamo would work either. They did the job. Delay and bleed the Enemy. Buy the troops on Okinawa some time. And honor the Emperor.

HMS Rawalpindi. Never bring a butter knife to a gun fight. R. I. P.

Let us all pause and commemorate the end of World War 1 this day in 1918.
73
Mr. Langley, built a plane that never really flew. Yet, is honored with a ship name. Yet the man who gave us Naval Aviation, Eugene Ely; in 100 plus years has never been honored. π‘
70
The original, "Empire Strikes Back." The Battle of the Falklands, 1914. π§π¬π§
62
The folks in charge of the ship lack the funding.
55
Β @sugarnadsΒ As Warbirds go, it has never been exactly popular.
50
These are nearly all a mile plus deep. No divers are going to these wrecks.
48
Β @RemoteViewr1Β Lt. CDR Robert Copeland, Skipper of the USS Samuel B. Roberts: Awarded the Navy Cross. Gunners Mate 3rd Paul H Carr. Gun Capt. Of the USS Samuel B. Roberts aft 5 inch mount: Awarded the Silver Star, posthumoustly. RADM. Clifton Sprague. Commander of Taffy 3: Awarded the Navy Cross. All would share the Presidential Unit Citation and along with Evans have ships named in their honor.

I have visions of "A Hard Days Night." Crazy World of Warships players chasing Drach in a Mob through the streets. π€£
45
Damn, that is a year long list........... So anybody asking for a ship type, uh check the list. His plate is full. π
39
In regards to the question about interwar technology development. As important as radar was. I would like to make a case for the operational use underway replenishment. While there had been experiments in the past. The active use of Navies being able to refuel underway from oilers And resupply under power really grew in this time frame. The ability of ships to operate for extended periods without the need to dock in port; was critical to operating Worldwide.
39
Yep, crappy way to reach Heavens Gates. π
38
Hey, I've been waiting four years for this... enjoy!
37
As a PA resident, agreed.
33
π This week on "Quantum Leap." Sam Leaps into Admiral Oldendorf in Oct. 1944.....
33
I must admit, that's quite a variety Small arms for the naval service. That looks like a really fun trip. Great collaboration. Very informative.
32
Arizona (SSN-803), a Block 5 Virginia-class submarine, will be the fourth United States Navy vessel named for the state of Arizona. Acting Secretary of the Navy Thomas Modly announced the name on 24 December 2019, in a press release. Arizona was authorized for construction on 2 December 2019. Oklahoma is also getting a Virginia Class. SSN-802.
32
Speaking of Cdr. Ernest Evans.... The secretary of the Navy announced last week the new DDG-141 will be named for him. He was of course posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor; for actions as captain of the USS Johnson during the Battle of Samar.
32
Β @RedXlVΒ partly true. Some dredging would be needed to get her to the ship channel. The drydocks of the Navy Yard are only a short tow away.
28
Well, at least that was easier than 2 years of Spanish. π
28
As that old line goes; "ours is not to wonder why. Ours is to do or die. "π
27
Samuel L. Jackson, stars in a sequel to "Snakes on A Plane." "Snakes on A Ship!" πβ΅
27
π and no, I was not expecting the Spanish Armada this morning. Nobody expects them.
27
My mind spins at the idea of Nimitz in the produce section.. π₯ππππ€
25
Drone lives Matter. π€

This is the first of deadly mistakes by Adm. Halsey. The two driving fleets into Typhoons to follow. Mistakes that should have kept him from a 5th star.
23
A new Arizona and Oklahoma will be coming back to service as Virginia class Subs in 2025.
22
Β @bkjeong4302Β Why? What 8 battle stars not enough for you?
22
Good service career overall. Like many of her USN counterparts, just never in the starring role.
21
Speaking of subs...... The Russian sub and the Queen Mary docked at Long Beach, CA are in bad physical and fiscal trouble.
20
Good summation of USN fighters. It's too bad the Fleet Air Arm waited until the F4 Phantom 2 to buy American designs again. While the Royal Navy made many advances in Carrier operations. The tools to work with were, less than stellar. Choosing domestic industry over outsourcing again. Well at least the French bought the Crusader.
20
Uh, the USS Olympia.....π Even older than Texas. And just as in need of a Drydock. Both should be sponsored by Flex Seal.....π
20
And nobody expects the Spanish Inqusition! https://youtu.be/7WJXHY2OXGE
20
Animations? His name is Drachinifel. Not Walt Disney. That's why..... π
20
Speaking of space-related. Let us remember the crew of the Space shuttle Challenger.. lost on this date in 1986..
19
I am proud of my Grandfather's sacrifice at Pusan was worth it. It kept South Korea a free country. Just wish he could have enjoyed how kids turned out. And how America got better for them. I have heared many of the horror stories of life in the North. Yeomni Park and her YouTube channel has done much to share to the World life in a that hellish place. Just wish our M.I.A's will one day return home. And the Pueblo... π
19
I don't think I've ever heard of an officer who jumped from surface warfare, to submarines, and aviation in a single career?
19
Too bad Olympia does not have as great a fan club..... She is just as old and in bad shape.
19
Sounds more goofy than Azure Lane. π
19
Paul Allen. R.I.P and The Crew of the RV Petrel. πΉππ They have advanced underwater research. Closed the books on many listed as M.I.A. And shown that we know more about the Moon than what is under the sea. Also a shout out to another shipwreck group, "The Lost 52." Their goal is to find the 52 Lost USN subs from WW2. Last week they found USS Grayback. Lost on her 10th war patrol in 1944. https://youtu.be/4Bod4PLoHrc
19
Β @jimtaylor294Β I wouldn't call them lousy? Just equiped with limited dual purpose weapons for the job. Hitting an airplane from a 80 ft boat in seas, without a stabilized mounting can be a challenge.π₯π©
18
What is next? Star Trek takes place on Hood instead of Enterprise?
18
At least they got names. Things like PC'S, SC's, and amphibs just a number.
