While launching a Alpha strke From Yankee Station, a Zuni rocket on a F-4B fired accidently. It crossed the deck into the Parked A-4's of VA-46. LT. McCain's drop tank was ruptured by the rocket. The fuel then ignited and started a fire among the 3 A-4's. He climbed out of the jet, seconds before his bomb load cooked off. That is fact and official.

  34. Rather than tie down the Home fleet in Scapa Flow, why not put the sub force on blockade? RN subs have nothing else better to do. Have them sit off Norway. The lack of Germans destroyers makes this a cheaper option.

  35.  @augustosolari7721  Good points. Sub warfare tactics were still being developed just as aviation was. The idea of subs as forward fleet recon units is not just a IJN idea. The planes extended the detection range of the slow speed subs.

  48.  @Starsky3022  LPH. Landing platform helicopter. The first iteration of amphibious assault by helicopter. Today we use the LHA. The difference with those is that they may or may not have a well deck for amphibious vehicles.

  49.  @cristitanase6130  you have a large empire to protect and patrol. The British empire stretched several continents and oceans. It's not practical to have a battleship every place. And a destroyer is not heavy enough.
