@MartinWillett Somehow, I think Western Civilization Will survive this calamity. 😏

@LuqmanHM You then run into a huge manpower problem. Japan never could train enough pilots to equip those carriers. Most of the best trained ones were lost at Midway in 1942. That was the cream of the crop. So building more carriers has problems.

@louis-philippefink4688 The Arado, like it's USN counterpart the Vought Kingfisher was really a spotter, not a fighter. In the pre radar era, they were to fly and radio target info to the ship. The other duty was SAR of downed pilots. Plus the sea was too rough to stop and recover Bismarck 's planes even if launched. Thus a one way flight.
4
@louis-philippefink4688 It's a quirky idea. Just needs a better plane to do the job. The Japanese Rufe fighter is what you need. The Rufe, was a A6M2 Zero on floats.
4
@augustosolari7721 RN in 1943 attacked Tirpitz with midget subs. The damage, took months to repair.
4
Torpedo net booms. They fold out to hold the nets.
4
Speaking of non Capitalists.... On this day in history: North Korea captured USS Pueblo. Jan. 23, 1968. Darn ship, still there. And still on the books..... 😒
4
This is probably the smallest vessel 5 minute guide?
4
I don't think 16 aircraft of medium sized are going to do much more damage that way.
4
@mpetersen6 I would agree with your analysis that the primary goal was more psychological.
4
HVAC tech was poor then. Thus, portholes. 😷
4
Think of it as a Band-Aid approach. Short-term fix to a long-term problem. Having support Oilers is always a problem.
4
Actually the term would be oiler. Tankers transport oil. Oilers are used for refueling.
4
@d.olivergutierrez8690 he's still just a one-man operation working with 52 weeks in a year.
4
There was a lot of field modifications done by Crews. Rather than being issued from the factory. The most notable example is of course, JFK in his use of a 37 mm Cannon on his PT-109.
4
I don't think the Admiral is going to micromanage air ops?
4
ALL were under the Command of Adm. Hart. CINC Asiatic fleet. That was basically all forces in China, the PI, and West Pacific. At the start of war, the Cruisers and DD's fled join the ABDA. Leaving only a token force of subs, PT Squadron 3, and assorted tenders and minesweepers.
4
@adammclean4871 The Usaf has a it's version of The Mothball fleet; "The Boneyard " at Davis-Monathan AFB in Arizona. Planes are kept in desert storage there. USN and USMC planes get stored as well.
4
@DanielJMorgan False claim. Those are dual purpose guns. Bigger Boom?😏 A 16 inch 50 on a Battleship is not a darn 12 gauge duck gun.
4
@jakemillar649 It makes as much sense as the Star Trek crew going back in time to save some whales.🐋🐳

It matters for flight ops. Most all approaches are made in a Port or left turn.
4
Policy aside, the logistics of a East Pacific Anti shipping war don't balance the investment, Huge area. Long transit to a patrol zone. Well protected targets. And few of them. Can they continue such ops past 1942 and risk the losses?
4
A lot of air cover helped.
4
Aye aye, sir. 😎🇺🇲
4
Nope. We talked about this last week.
4
I think you're thinking about MAD (magnetic anomaly detection)? Which is used in ASW planes and helicopters still today to find submarines. https://youtu.be/tMXOKUUX3Wg
4
@ReptilianLepton So far the Reputation of the Ford class is one step above Cluster bleep..... Word in the Navy is that the 4 ordered, are it for now...
4
This has been addressed in some other videos. It's a matter for Malaysian officials. It's their Waters.
4
Isn't it Dutch?
4
Easy answer. Navies have to pay people to scrap their ships. No profit on scrapping. The market is full of ships to scrap vs demand for Steel. Plus US firms have to obey EPA regulations for hazmat that 3rd World breakers do Not. Nuclear ships are bigger headache due to a delay in operating a permanent National waste site.
4
Speaking of Sail..... Can we get a 5 minute guide to USCG Eagle? 🤔
4
Ranger did okay.
4
Being a Russian Naval aviator has got to be a very odd career?
4
As far as service records for US veterans? The US national archives at St Louis handles those requests. The military records archives are stored there. The national archives has a website with the information. Be warned however, a percentage of these records were lost in a major fire in 1973. As to the boat? That would have been the unit squadron designation. Each boat has its own number.
4
Brenda, chill.....
4
To what end? Is your life in that much crisis?
4
@murderouskitten2577 The British Invasion returns...🇬🇧☺
4
Sorry, that makes no sense. That is what funnels are for. The twin islands have more to do with air ops vs ship driving. Air ops has a better aft view. The forward island is better placed to navigate the ship.
4
You've given me a reason to pull out my DVD of, " the battle of the River Platte." Great naval film. On Amazon.... 😉
4
@philvanderlaan5942 whining.....😏
4
The internal gyroscopes would make the correction to fire straight ahead.
4
Happy Bastille day 🥐🍾🇫🇷
4
😢 Based on this? I would run from any Pressgang! I can assure you no one would take a cruise ship today if their Buffet consisted of bread, butter and Saltfish. I hate to be the one guy on the ship asking for the vegan option?🙋🏽♂️ I will never complain about eating spam or Ramen ever again.... And they don't exactly have Gordon Ramsay as the ship's cook here.👨🍳 At this point in history, have they introduced the limes and lemons to combat scurvy?
4
USS Pennsylvania
4
@richardbennett1856 Midway is already pretty full of airplanes. As I recall they do have B-26's in their first real action. Sending b-17s would be kind of a stretch. And high-level bombing doesn't work on ships very well.
4
@edwardteach3000 Hey you try making a historicaly good country song that charts? It's like making Scientific Gospel... 🤔
4
Whining over nothing
4
Seem the USN has taken the collision tradition to new highs lately.......😏
4
@AtomicBabel Want sad?😪 Try CV-67 USS JFK just last week....https://youtu.be/CUwPfKXzdDY
