  2. I can't believe the field of psychology is so competitive. I've been to a LOT of psychologists, and a lot of them are useless, apathetic airheads... There's no way it's that competitive with the types of people that become them. A good psych is worth their weight in gold, but many of them are beyond useless and finding a good one can be an absolute nightmare and almost as bad as the underlying condition! (I was severely tortured many times growing up, and I never found a half-decently competent shrink.)

Congratulations Felinehyper, you're normal :) hehehe Actually, I've been in a similar boat for many years, the basic problem here being that I find normal life bores me to tears and leaves me feeling unmotivated. Job title, new car, 2.3 kids in line to be doctors and lawyers, and of course that universal prerequisite: Bragging about "how much hard work it was to get where I am today, but I worked hard for the privilege of bragging about how hard I worked". I'm sure you've heard it all before. None of it does anything for me. I have no problem with it, I just find it very dull, and too damn much work for something I don't indentify with. You know, like a zillion other people :)

  10. In all fairness, Dr. Peterson has made himself enough bread that if he gets canned from his job it's hardly the end of the world for him. He'd have an extended vacation at the worst! Do all the things he never got around to doing that aren't related to academics, politics and all the crap that goes along with it. Maybe he could learn the electric guitar and start a punk band, he'd be like the second coming of Bad Religion

  17.  Paddy234  It's not just the drugs, it the reasons people go to clubs. They're bored with their lives and are looking for trouble. Guys go to start fights and prove that they're "alpha", girls go to watch guys fight over them and get their money. If you dig the music, that's cool, but many (if not most) clubbers aren't there for that. They're looking for drama and conflict because they're bored, and don't have anything in their lives that they like to do.

  20. It doesn't necessarily have anything to do with information relevant to national security, a lot of people aspire to these positions just to get power over people because they get off on it. They torture for the sake of it because they like the feeling of power and there's nothing more to it than that. They could know all along that the person they're torturing has nothing to do with terrorism, they just torture him anyway because they get a kick out of it.

  21. Music kicks ass. I haven't the foggiest idea why, but I've loved it since I was a very little kid. It seems to me that it's inescapably human, although I'm aware that not everyone digs it. The biggest mystery of music to me is why anyone ever bothered with it, especially in the very beginning when nobody had developed any instruments yet, let alone had any theory as to how to go about writing any tunes to play on them :) Great part of being human, though!

If you really believe you've become a much better man (in terms of mind, attitude and ethics/empathy, NOT muscles, clothes & money) and women don't like you anymore, then you simply need to stop wasting your time liking THEM, that's all. They're vapid and there's nothing worth liking. Fucking maybe, but not being fond of in the affectionate attachment sense.

  25. @PGH Engineer That was insightful :) Also explain why I never got into clubbing despite the promise of a 'good time' (fights and STDs?) I guess I just never related to it. I just never got into malignant narcissism as a 'lifestyle'. I don't find it fun or exciting, whereas many young women (and older ones!) live for that shit. I find it fake, pretentious and tedious, it's just not for me.

  37.  @maxineporter8848  Not really, a sovereign country is just one that doesn't officially submit to another country's government (a Dominion.) Canada was originally called the Dominion of Canada, submitting to the power of the British government. We consider ourselves a sovereign country so nowadays we just say "Canada." This would hold true if we had no military at all. As for being a protectorate goes, both the USA and Canada are members of NATO and since they have nuclear weapons and we do not, then yes we can be considered a protectorate. It's not a bad deal since those things are terribly expensive and are a godawful pain in the ass to maintain. We just let the States deal with all that nuclear weapons stuff so we can focus on making beer and hockey pucks :)

  40.  @skindianu  I was always made acutely aware of that when I was a kid, that nothing whatsoever was mine--not even birthday or Christmas presents, or even the clothes I wore or the cheap old guitar I loved playing--everything was my parents' property because my father paid for it and my mom was married to him. Everything, every little thing, belonged to them and I had nothing. I'm 46 now and still feel that way about things I actually WORKED for. GREAT way to raise your fucking kids. My parents were assholes...

  43. Has anyone else ever noticed that people are desperate to have kids, but once the kids are born they're just foaming at the mouth to get rid of them? "Oh my god, I can't WAIT until they're old enough for school! Then I can have MY house all to myself!" Why have kids if you just want to get rid of them? Every time someone has a kid, they always say that.
