  2. It's globalization, when supply chains break down you'll be surprised who is dependent on what. Many nations thanks to global trade security since the late 1940s were able to explode their population far past what their local ability to feed that many people are. If ever the global trade system is shut down, like in a world war. More people will probably starve to death than die in the actual war. You say "produce it locally" but it isn't that simple. Not all nations have land as fertile as Ukraine and other factors which make the wheat extremely cheap. Much cheaper than if you produced it locally. So again for the past 80 years nations simply bet the system will keep going and go after the cheaper options. Which makes sense if you're a poor nation, you can't expect to grow something locally which costs 3 times as much when you can simply buy it cheaper. It's a dangerous situation the world has found itself in. If global trade on the high seas stopped for what ever reason, it's not just poor nations which would starve either. Rich nations like Saudi Arabia and Japan would starve to death as well. Food doesn't grow as well or as efficiently in every country. Blessed are those nations which are food secure AKA nations which can grow enough food to feed their population. These nations are few and far between.

Claiming the Swedish state had nothing to do with it isn't really going to resolve their Nato problem.

  15.  @jtighe7090  I agree with that statement to a certain degree but my question is why didn't this philosophy apply to Cuba went it wanted a military alliance with Russia? Lets not forget WW3 was threatened at the time if Russia didn't pull out of Cuba.

  16.  @jtighe7090  We were going to unless the Russians pulled out, which they did. That is what nations generally do, before war they make demands. If the demands are not met then the invasion happens. And I agree the Bay of Pigs doesn't count. It wasn't a real invasion by the military. But you have no idea how close we came to an actual invasion if Russia didn't leave Cuba. Large powers generally don't like their rival's military equipment up their noses. This rings true for everyone in such a situation. It certainly doesn't excuse America almost starting WW3 over Cuba's choice of alliance nor does it excuse Russia's invasion of Ukraine. But it certainly gives them context and makes both actions easier to understand.

  19.  @jeremyj5932  They're willing to let Ukraine sell their wheat, if Russia is allowed to sell theirs. The only place that decides if this deal gets done or not is Washington. Russia wants their agro banks back on the swift system to sell the wheat. Their demands aren't unreasonable IMO. The Biden regime doesn't seem very interested, even if millions will starve.

  20. @Josephsmith594. Here in the west we're completely tired of the race card because it is pulled 24/7 where it has no rational reason to be applied. But just because we've gone through that doesn't change the fact this conflict has a racial component. Millions of people have been rounded up and stuffed into a concentration camp because of their ethnicity. That is the textbook definition of when to play the race card lol They're not going to act in line with our irrational domestic political insanity with how the race card works.

  22. Difference being that is a traditional war. Not genocide and not a place where millions of people are stuffed into the world's only concentration camp. Less civilians have died in that huge war going on in Ukraine for over a year and a half than Israel has killed in the past week. The fact you'd even compare that is pure and utter insanity.

  23. @Dao Yen Ngoc, What fury over free speech. Sweden doesn't have free speech. For god's sake they have some of the toughest thought crimes in the west. There are some 3rd world nations which have a lot more freedom of expression than Sweden. Why not try going to Sweden and talk about hot button issues like migration or the biology of gender. You might find yourself under an oppressive boot which ruins your life. If they should or shouldn't be in Nato is a fair debate which I think should be had. But it won't be had in their country because anyone opposing it will be shut down ruthlessly, again proving that country literally has no freedom of expression.

I honestly feel like the poor Ukrainian people are going to end up being the sacrificial lamb for some global geo political chess game. It makes me sick to my stomach just thinking about how much the poor people there will suffer if this happens. 😢😢

They were so effective the Ukrainians wrote a song about it for god's sake. That is your definition of ignored? Also, it is hard to even compare the two conflicts. The Ukraine/Russia conflict is the definition of a conventional war. Neither side is rounding people up by the millions and sticking them into concentration camps like Israel is doing. So no, you're not right. You're not even in the same city as right. You're drawing a false narrative that folds like origami when put under a microscope.

  48. Actually it was this guy who alarmed the world about what was happening to the Uyghurs in 2008. NOt to mention it's hard to compare what is happening in Palestine to the Uyghurs. The Uyghurs have it bad but they're not being butchered like cattle and having their lands stolen with the rest being stuffed into concentration camps like the Palestinians.
