  5.  @agffans5725  There are NATO standard, which they could have already been compliant with. It's obvious that it's philanthropic organization or charity. The military spending is more crucial than the troop readiness. The 2% GDP spending target will have some spending on good and services from US-owned companies. It will also help cover the cost of the mobilization of NATO troops and equipment in East Europe and now the massive Finland, Poland, and Baltic borders shared with Russia (Kaliningrad) and Belarus. No nation is completely self reliant on their domestically produced military equipment, neither is the US or Russia. The Pentagon purchase from European and British military contractors as well; e.g., BAE Systems and Airbus have Pentagon contracts. That's one of the reason it's economically harmful to Moscow having Ukraine and Georgia seeking trade and security arrangements with the European Union and NATO. Their equipment from Warsaw Pact/Soviet-era and military spending has to meet Nato targets.

  9. Most of the intelligence from Ukraine War, and the Kremlin plot to replace Zelenskyy, have been from British sources. The US has traditionally been in a leadership role, but I think the UK could be trying to avenge the poisoning attacks because they're even more anti-Putin than the US is.

  10. Ukraine will eventually get the heavy weapons they need regardless of the protest from the Kremlin. Germany is the most powerful country in the EU. It shouldn't sit back and let the US, UK, and Poland take the leadership in arming Ukraine and defending West Europe.

Unlike the Russian economy and natural-resource exporters, the UK financial sector and services industry is deeply intertwined with the world's largest economies. A steep decline in the UK GDP could trigger a global recession and further weaken the Pound. Despite the fact Britain leave the single market, it's still a vital economy that the US, EU, and Japan will attempt to rescue.

  12. I was going to post a remark about how clumsy and foolish this fascist coup attempt was, but I'll withhold my remark. I don't know Germany well enough to give a confident answer. Germany is very wealthy with political dominance over Europe, and it has a highly educated population, but it's had that status since the nineteenth century. I just hope it would be nearly impossible for a country that big, influential, and stable to be overrun by thugs.

  15. As a fellow American, I agree. This is a US-Russia proxy war that Ukraine is fighting on behalf of the West. They've proven their capabilities, so it's in America's interest to ensure that Ukrainians are properly armed to defend their own homeland.

That might sound realistic and convincing to you, but it sounds like you're not familiar at all with geopolitics and Transatlantic relations. If you have claims that you can backup with historical precedents or actual examples, that would be different. It sounds like you're confusing your own opinions with undisputed fact. That's an opinion from you, so I'm not sure how you expect me to give input on something that only exists in your imagination.

  25. The different forms of government are completely difference. The CCP is a police state led by a dictator. The liberal democracies of West aren't perfect, but the institution of 24-hr surveillance, censorship, show trials, Zero-Covid, One-child policy, coronavirus pandemic cover ups, one-party rule, and the Uyghurs concentration camps could only occur in Mainland China, North Korea, and possibly Russia, but definitely not in the US, South Korea, Australia, Japan, New Zealand, the UK, and the European Union.

  26. They should switch to American LNG and purchase more weapons from US or UK defense contractors. It will help compensate and alleviate the burden on the US and UK. Both countries have taken the lead in confronting Moscow and putting troops on the frontlines near the Russian border. The West is still hopeful for the day when Germany and the rest of the European Union can do the same. That would signal the end of the economic warfare between US allies and Russia. The emerging markets where the Kremlin is hoping for new customers and market access, won't be able to offset the loss of revenue from the world's second-largest economy.

Your method of predicting this and the Russo-Ukraine War seems accurate, but typically you can also link global conflicts to economic indicators like recessions, depressions, inflation, and for odd reason. The CCP is beginning to experience a slow down in economic growth that they've become accustomed to. For some reason things get crazy in the world during a lame-duck presidency or the first year of a new US administration.

India is still mostly non-aligned in this latest "Cold War," despite having a border dispute with the CCP, being opposed to the use of force in Ukraine, and the historically friendly relations with the liberal democracies in the West. In the long run, the goal should be to incorporate India into the West and the global order. Eventually, it will re-evaluate its foreign policy and relations with the Beijing and Moscow. Right now, Washington, DC, and the European Union have offered India no economic incentive, infrastructure investment, nor mutual-defense agreements that would create a NATO-like democratic alliance in the Indo-Pacific.

  32.  @erickm3940  US would fight them regardless, but it's not dependent on Taiwan for semiconductors. Most of the semiconductors are assembled and tested in the US. Taiwan has the semiconductor foundries ("contract manufacturing") to supplement the chips made in the US and around the world. The technology is mostly own by American companies like Apple Inc, Texas Instruments, AMD, and Intel. If it were cut off, the US could reopen idled wafer fabs around the country. It would cost money, but the infrastructure is still here.

If most of the world is terrified about the prospect of two nuclear powers fighting each other directly, then they should have done more to deter Putin from invading a sovereign nation. Attacking Ukraine, as terrible as it has been, is completely different from Russia attacking a NATO country. The US wouldn't have a choice on whether or not to enter the country. Most of Europe will also be obligated to fight Russia.

That was part of the period considered Pax Britannica, and the British Empire; more specifically, modern day India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka hadn't been surpassed by the US. I intentionally left the time frames open to ranges of decades and gave a vague definition of "superpower," to account for the ambiguity of what was considered a single country, international influence, and how economic productivity was measured. Post-WWII, there were no questions or grey areas regarding the world power and size of the domestic economics.

  45. That's a good point. As someone living in the West, I always wondered if our type of liberal democracy would even work in countries like Russia and China. They've always had strong autocratic leaders. Putin was instrumental in creating the bureaucratic oligarchy that Russia has become, and he's clearly skilled at presenting himself as the provider of security and stability, and using military conflicts to remain popular.
