  1. How old are you, like six? The kind of wars you're dreaming of have become obsolete in the modern world. The Russian nuclear supply is meant as a deterrent against a first strike from the US. Regardless, of how crazy Putin would like people to believe he is, he's not going to use nuclear weapons on a country that never attacked them.

  4. With all the problems in the world today, why start a new European conflict that repeats all the mistakes from the past and only further isolates Russia? The new superpower to emerge from this conflict will likely be a Germany-led European Union that retires the official foreign policy of Vergangenheitsbewältigung ("the struggle to overcome the negatives of the past") and ends the dependence on Russia for gas. The US and post-Brexit UK (which is more than just our aircraft carrier) have security and trade interests on the European continent but aren't officially Europeans or part of the single market. If we can't make the UK into the 51st state, we'll have to create something like an Anglo-American sphere that could include India. That should keep the EU from trying to bully Britain for being independent, and it will be part of the pivot to Asia.

  6. Well said. Cutting Germany/EU's dependence on Russian gas will be one of the strongest weapons to protect the people of Ukraine. In the near term, energy sells to China and India won't be enough to offset the lost revenue from Europe.

  7.  @SPIDERM0OSE  Russia is barely the second-most powerful military within the borders of the former Soviet Union. If they want to try and attack the UK, and get destroyed by all of NATO countries (Mostly US missiles), that's the Kremlin's choice. The benefit is that it will make the war decisions a lot easier for NATO without Ukraine being the proxy. As long as Russia's gas and natural resources survive, life will go on. Gazprom and Rosneft will become BP and ExxonMobil.

  11.  @Spiral-Sun  That's not the official pretext for war that Vladimir Putin himself claimed. Russia invaded to de-Nazify Kyiv and stop genocide against Russian speakers in Crimea and the Donbas. The status quo didn't change during the last twelve months, and Ukrainians never attacked Russia.

Rather than trying to prematurely confront a US-led military alliance in the Pacific, which would definitely result a humiliating defeat for Beijing and cause Taiwanese independence, they should just maintain the status quo. Mainland China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong were historically united as "One China," and separated by partially by American, European, and Japanese colonialism and political interference. Despite the very legitimate claims, the CCP has adopted a policy of regional hegemony, hostility, and forced re-unification. There wouldn't be a massive American military presence in the region wasn't rushing a military and economic confrontation with the West. Peace and prosperity should be the goal for the region, but China's regional hostility and unrecognized claims to most of the South China Sea and East China Sea will result in a NATO-like military alliance with the ability to cut off China from international trade.

  45. OPEC can't cause a recession or counter inflation. They can barely manage the global supply of oil products. A central bank can raise interests rates, cause a recession, raise unemployment, and decrease the demand for oil and other products within a month.

  50. They have the right to exist. The CCP is a planned economy and communism never works. I don't know if they'll match the US in GDP, but mid-century the US would pass China again because it's a stable economy with predictable growth.
