  1. He probably did think he was like Putin, but Putin know how to win elections (cheating) and is not as dangerous as Trump. Putin wouldn't let his supporters attack the Kremlin just because he lost. Putin's been in office 2000. He is popular enough to stay in power, and knows the system well enough. He'll be there until he's sure he's safe and no one will come after him and his money. The US just doesn't like his policies but they work with him because he keeps Russia stable, and if he left someone worst cold replace him.

  2. It's not the same. When did the US ever try to annex land in the Middle East? I'm sure those countries would love to have American citizenship, but that's not what happened. Stay focused on the present, and stop using "whataboutism." It's not even relevant. Just because the US can get away with something doesn't mean Russia and China can do the same and get similar results.

  5. People a lot smarter than you have already researched and debated those topics. There's already a war on the continent. Why would they worry about appeasing "The East?" Putin leads an autocratic and criminal regime started the war. The choice of good relations with Russia, North Korea, Iran, and China versus ties to the Anglo-American democracies has already been analyzed. "The East" are the ones who have blundered and miscalculated by starting a war that makes the US more relevant than it's been since the Cold War?

  6. If it were that big of a beast, it would have done something by now. The US military is experienced, has better technology, and what "checkmates" the CCP is that the US allies. That's why it's able project power in the Asian-Pacific without being based in the region.

  13. I'm not sure when threats to use nukes on people defending their own lands became normalized. The nuclear option is a sign of desperation that wouldn't even change the situation on the ground. Russia would still barely be the strongest military operating within Ukraine.

  14. That wasn't just Biden. That was from UK-US intelligence sources inside the Kremlin. Nuclear weapons are different because Washington DC and Moscow have a hotline and both track the movements of each countries nuclear warheads. When the nuke threat alert rises, like after 9/11, they talk to each other. Any movement of Russia's strategic and battlefield nukes is assumed to be direct toward the US and NATO.

It was in US airspace, so it doesn't matter what any non-American feels about a military decision that doesn't concern them. You don't even have say on US foreign policy. Unless you have international law supporting your claims, then you're essentially using "whataboutism." That's the same thing allies of Putin say to avoid addressing the war.

The only reason there's talk of Biden being soft on China is because of Trump getting humiliated and being the first president to openly show cowardice before Russia. You're just continuing a political talking point that was used to help Trump get re-elected, but it clearly didn't work. I'm not sure why you're still along with it because the election is over.

  24.  @hermanwooster8944  Which country are you talking about since the US clearly has a history of lend-lease debt forgiveness and rebuilding wartorn West Europe in exchange for access to the European market and a pledged opposition to communism. The only European nation that will be in economic ruins will be Russia. Even if a nation doesn't have the ability to immediately fiance weapons systems, it won't make any difference to the US government. Ukraine will be a new market of 45 million pro-US/UK consumers buying US goods, services, and financial products.

You do know there a war going on in Europe and even Finland, Sweden, and Switzerland have begun mobilization? Military spending skyrocketed over the past two years. I'm not an expert, but I do work for a defense contractor and can see the increase demand. I could forgive you if it were slightly true, but being willfully ignorant of obvious fact that military spending has increased, leads me to believe there is an ulterior motive behind your remark. I'm not attack your position, but do you have a credible sources saying that Europe can't afford new weapons because I'm not sure where you got the impression of military spending declining during a war and heightened alert?

  26.  @hermanwooster8944  Stated that way, I can easily clarify my point. If I claimed all Soviet-era equipment can be quickly replaced by newer American-made, I would definitely be wrong. Saying that all the Eastern European nations that were 1) once part of the Warsaw Pact; 2) a former Soviet Republics; or 3) separated from Yugoslavia have the cash on hand to accomplish that in less than a decade wouldn't be realistic. It didn't come out clearly, but I only meant new equipment purchases and not the entire Soviet inventory.

  32. The US is sending armed vehicles for now. There are Abrams tanks in Europe, but most are needed for the worst-case scenario and the conflict spills over to EU/NATO.

  33.  @elliott7531  Hopefully, I didn't give the impression that Ukraine must have ONLY or PREFERABLY US-made tanks. I was mentioning the weapons depots and stockpiles of arms the US military warehouses around the globe in case of war. The US will contribute the funds, weapons, intelligence, sanctions, and soft power it takes to destroy the Russian forces occupying Ukraine. It also buys all NATO, Chinese, Israeli, Russian, and/or Soviet-made ammunition and weapons. Fortunately for the world, the US and NATO are not actively at war with Russia; so Zelenskyy and his generals are the battlefield experts and know the type of weapon systems needed. The war has made NATO more relevant than ever. It's never been a philanthropic organization or an American-led charity. Other than defense, it's been about marketing and standardizing the weapons systems and the defense sectors. The corruption that has plagued the Russian Armed Forces and its defense-production industry would have been exposed sooner in a NATO country.

They could also have gained respect for him since he is putting up a strong fight and still wants to meet Putin face-to-face to negotiate. Russians, Belarusians, and Ukrainians have been using political assignations and poisoning for centuries, and Putin could find himself as the victim. With the economic instability and state of emergency in Russia, it's hard to predict how stable Putin's government is.

I've known about Bakhmut-Soledar battles, Wagner mercenaries, and the shelling of the remaining civilians since it began. It's probably not covered because there's been no significant change in the battlefield situation since the winter. The war of attrition doesn't need constant coverage. It's been more of a Russian morale booster than a strategic victory in large population centers in East Ukraine.

It has just as much to do with faith as the Russo-Ukrainian War is about Orthodox Christianity. That's just an excuse from people too lazy to research the background facts.   46. The sooner the trading relationship between the West and Russia ends, the better, There should be no European revenue going toward financing Russia's war in Ukraine. Since the sale of oil and gas will eventually be halted by Moscow or Brussels/Berlin anyway, the West should be planning for the inevitable. As long as Putin remains in office, the relationship between the West and Russia will return never return to normal. The Cold War doctrine of containment is the only option for preventing a direct war between the US and Russia. The financial sanctions and economic warfare should become permanent. Moscow needs the West a lot more as a customer than the West needs Russia. Putin's Russia has become a corrupt mafia state and is correctly described as a "gas station masquerading as a nuclear superpower."

  47.  @lhmsc  China doesn't get involved in European affairs. That's a naive claim to assume the CCP foreign policy is identical to the West. That's something the US, Britain, or the European Union would do. The US, Russia, and Germany can stop it. The CCP won't do anything but issue statements of a peaceful resolution. They have to comply with the same US/EU sanctions imposed on Russia. China is not in nearly as strong as a position that far away from Asia.

  49.  @realperson6713  I don't think they're going to intervene at all. They're not nearly as powerful as you're making them out to be. The CCP could be useful to deter Russia from using nuclear weapons because they could be impacted by a NATO-Russia nuclear conflict. The CCP, India, and Brazil will remain mostly spectators. Whether or not they opposed Putin's aggression in Ukraine and the possibility of a long-drawn-out conflict won't change their non-interventionist stance. Although it's different situation in Ukraine, the unified response from the West should help deter Beijing from trying to take Taiwan by force. They should more focused on their confrontation with the United States rather than trying to mediate the Russo-Ukrainian War.

The CCP won't act outside of the UN Security Council, and despite being the senior partner in the relationship with Russia, it's not going to isolate Putin. The Arab Spring and Syrian Civil War are examples of how China is a regional power and rarely intervenes wars and geopolitical crises outside of the Asia-Pacific region. The resolution of the Russia-NATO proxy war is ultimately up to Moscow and Washington, DC. At this point in the conflict, it's difficult seeing how Beijing will even be invited to negotiations. They do have a significant volume of trade with Moscow, but they can't force Ukraine to stop fighting.
