Sometimes I wonder if things are getting better in Detroit. I guess not.
8
I feel sorry for the dog and cat in the street.
8
Shame on America for allowing any part of the country to deteriorate to this! The open spaces must have been houses that were torn down with rubble removed, but there's still much to be done. Then there's always a few people hanging on, keeping up their homes and still living there.Detroit is certainly the king of urban decay. All the work and resources that went into building this neighborhood and now it's come to this. What a shame.
8
I think you're right.
8
Yeah? Where? How about that power clean this place up? All that trash!
8
Competition from foreign car manufacturers and bad management on the part of the Big 3 didn'' help, either.
7
I'm sure they're worried about looting. There's no Wal-Mart, either. They'd rob the places blind.
7
Some parts of our country still mine coal. It generates 1/3 of our electricity. It comes out of the hills of West Virginia by the train load and other places.
7
The auto industry was humming back then and everyone was making money.
7
As GM prepares to move into their new plush headquarters a few blocks away they hope for taxpayer money assistance disposing of the old buildings as so much of Detroit remains a wasteland.
7
No excuse for any American city to be like this.
7
I feel sorry for any bird or other animal living in this environment.
7
50 years later, this is what LBJ's "Great Society" has created.
7
I see lots of railroad tracks. It must have been a busy industrial area at one time until it was all sent to China. Once again, thank you democrats! Vote for Biden!
7
Certainly not the worst place Charlie's visited. Things look pretty tidy with a few abandoned houses here and there, but not many. No trash strewn all over, either. I like the sound of the train in the background. Seems very devoid of humanity. Empty streets everywhere. Maybe everyone's gone to the moon.
7
@dalemcnamee2427 I don't see any street lights, either. Imagine this at night. And the condition of the roads just getting to and from your home.
7
Didn't Michael Jackson come from here?
7
People tell me looks are deceiving. They're much worse.
7
This guy CharlieBo313 sure gets around.
7
Does the city of Detroit plow any of these roads? Too bad for those who have kept up their houses surrounded by urban decay. I lost count of how many liquor stores showed up. Seems to be plenty of them. It's nice Detroit finally got seem working street lights in place. Where's Gretchen Whitmer? Does she ever visit this place?
7
The open spaces must have all been homes at one time with many more in need of demolition. Interesting that amid all the urban decay life goes on for some people including having parties. I noticed a new stretch of sidewalk installed in front of vacant lots. Some guy's car on jacks for repairs. Apparently he gave up and left it there. Things still look pretty bad in Detroit.
7
Do GM executives from the ivory tower downtown ever drive through these neighborhoods and look at the results of sending the jobs to Mexico? I wondered if things were getting better in Detroit, but it doesn't look like it. It must be scary at night in these hoods. I don't see any street lights. Some of the houses are still kept up and lived in surrounded by all the carnage. It's got to be pretty frightening when the sun goes down. Do the fire hydrants still work?
7
They sure like fences in this hood, don't thy? Is that to keep people out or keep them in?
7
Imagine the original owners who planned them and were so excited to move in.
7
It was at one time before all the jobs left.
7
I would virtually guarantee it was once a nice area.
6
This neighborhood actually doesn't look too bad. I don't know if I'd want to live there, but I've seen a lot worse.
6
He slowed down. that's called a rolling stop. You can do it when no one's around.
6
And those are probably shop-lifted on a regular basis, too.
6
You can't be serious. What did Obama do about this situation in 8 years?
6
This is probably an almost daily occurrence in the once fabulous and prosperous Detroit .
6
Apparently attempts to revitalize areas are also thwarted by the trash that lives there. why would anyone build new houses then let them sit empty? They'd be better off leaving the land vacant.
6
I wondered if things were getting any better in Detroit, but I guess not.
6
we 're too busy sending aid to Ukraine.
6
What's racist about it?
6
MissRosa: This is why I think an effort to clean up the city could e successful if people wanted to get off their lazy asses and do it.
6
Detroit's population actually peaked in 1950, a long time ago when the auto industry was booming. This decay has been going on for a long time. What a shame this was allowed to happen.
6
1955 was a banner year for the auto industry. Output was spectacular. Most of it came from Detroit. To this day many cars from 1955 survive, but the place of their birth is a ghost town.
6
You'd have to be brave to hang in this hood.
6
This place look like Martha's Vineyard compared to E. Cleveland. Maybe Charlie Boo ought to visit there while he's in OH.
6
There ae a few videos on You Tube of these neighborhoods in the hey day, but not many. Mostly old home movies.
6
Definitely not as bad as Detroit. It reminds me of Bethlehem, PA as the steel mill was dying. I thought the roads in PA are bad! I used to know a girl who lived in Newburgh. She commuted to Morristown, NJ every day for her job. That was back in the 70s. It was probably a nicer place then.
6
Isn't someone supposed to mow the lawn? I don't understand how people can live with all that trash thrown around.
6
Seems as if hardly anyone else can, either! 🙂
6
Why is a new sidewalk being installed around the abandoned church? Why bother?
6
The quality of construction of most of these buildings is amazing plus the ornate facades. There must have been a lot of prosperity here at one time to have built them. There's way too much of this decay all across the country. While Detroit remains the granddaddy of them all, it seems many others are trying to catch up. It's despicable.
6
If you have a lot of money you can live anywhere.
6
He's got nerve for sure!
6
Do you blame him? I didn't see anyone to interview in this video.
6
It's doing much better than Detroit!
