  17. The USA does not need to lean on other nations, quite the opposite. Many "allied" nations participate with the USA because of their own interests strategically, economically, and politically. Many "allies" are actually a hinder to the USA as many nations have neglected their logistics capability forcing the United States to carry their equipment and troops around for them.

Saddam's Republic Guard was defeated in a few weeks and Baghdad was captured with Saddam in hiding. Saddam's Baathists "Islamic Socialists" dropped their uniforms for partisan warfare. Later on Syria and Iran were funding Islamic radicals from every corner of the world including Western nations and China to fight in Iraq where they killed thousands of Iraqi civilians. This is why they were called "insurgents" the real foreign invaders to Iraq.
