I don't find any of this surprising, and only shocking when it's compared with previous presidents. It's not shocking in any way when compared with his own previous behavior and opinions. Maybe having parents who grew up under dictatorships made me somewhat more attuned to the threat of this happening, but I've been expecting all of this from day one.

A reporter's leanings will be apparent in which questions they ask and how they accept the answers given. This isn't reporting on an event, or on anything that happens independent of the reporting. It's a conversation, and there's no way to keep one's POV out of that.

Back then, "wealthy" meant you owned a big mansion, a fleet of cars, a summer house, a plane or two, and all the fancy bling you cared to buy. None of this owning the entire fucking world - you just plain weren't ALLOWED to accumulate that much wealth because it was still understood how completely lousy that would be for the country as a whole. That's what we should go back to: yes, you can get rich, but you're only allowed to BE rich up to a certain point. After that, you have to give back.
