@commodore92 #Camp 3 generations for disrespecting Dear Leader.
16
I think 4th overall is pretty darn good, especially for someone who wasn't the best of shots a few years ago.
15
There is no overkill, only "Open fire" and "Reload" - Maxim #37 (Amended).
15
I'd say it was done. three blocks, two men and say 6 rounds a minute? The system had been used in small bore artillery for several hundred years before this, stuff with a bore of an inch and a half to two inches, mainly German and Austrian. Of course in those the ball was also loaded into the removable breech block.
14
If you still have it and are willing to allow Ian to put a couple of rounds thru it I'm sure a lot of folk would be grateful. I can put you in touch if you like. These are a very strong action and I'm sure Ian would underload the cartridges just to make sure.
14
Unless it be a Cobray Terminator in the case of which, keepeth thine cloak.
14
Ian: ".45 Sterling, blah blah blah" Everyone else: "MINI STEN!"
14
You do NOT want to take that buffer spring out, trust me 😁 I never had that many issues with these (apart from a broken gas piston) and I quite liked it. I found it handy to use as it pointed well and had a soft recoil, accurate, wonderfully engineered (not so important practically but it really was beautifully engineered), and easy to clean/maintain. Ours were mostly mounted and we had some of the spade grips as well which I believe were not exactly common in regular SAA service. It rates up there with the MG3 as one of my favorite to use GPMGs.
14
@petrimakela5978 I'll assume this is from your collection and if so that's a very nice collection you have sir, that was quite a room!
13
Even mentioning the MR73 in the breath as this thing should be a criminal act.
13
LOL, How many messages did you get wanting to buy it? There are quite a few of these out there.
13
And Gun Jesus saw and it was good.
13
@roryokane5907 Bad? Oh hell no, the Maxim/Vickers (pretty much the same gun) is still the best static defense, heavy machine gun in the world. If I'm dug in and not going anywhere it's the HMG I'd want. As long as you have ammo and a barrel every 100,000 rounds or so it will fire forever, they have been proven to be capable of firing well over a million rounds continuously with stops for belt and barrel changes only. At the end of that, all parts were still within spec.
13
Best video from you in some time. Just two accomplished historians answering a very interesting question.
12
Thank you so much to Jan for allowing us to see how this piece works, that was incredibly kind of you sir. Someone like Pedersoli HAS to make these again, what a wonderful thing it would be to own and use.
12
@kaerakh4267 Ah, Shad is far from anti-gun, mate.
12
@Ellwe2000 Because he's a Patreon and gets to see the videos before you do.
12
Oh man, NEVER do that!
12
@Oblithian Thankyou. These auction house guns are owned by folk who may not even have heard of Ian and are of course in the process of being sold, parts are almost impossible to come by and some can be quite fragile so we are very fortunate so many allow their pieces to be shot.
12
@Dang_Near_Fed_Up More than one, there was also an incident out west in between a union and Pinkerton that involved a Gatling gun mounted in a rail car that killed more than a handful of striking rail workers when opened up on them.
11
@ET Hardcorgamer Don't underestimate the possible rate of fire for these. With a two-man crew, 20rpm or more is viable and using HE you would only need one round on target. Those pirate attack crafts were not all that quick (maybe 25 to 30 knots) as they were usually heavy timber craft with a 50 to 70HP outboard. If you are making 20 knots and they are trying to intercept the relative speed was rarely more than 15 knots and that isn't all that hard a target to hit from a large and thus stable vessel such as a tanker or container ship.

@pteppig It may within territorial waters now but HM Government still is hesitant to challenge the sovereignty of the place. It doesn't pay taxes, vessels and aircraft come and go at will from both sides of the channel subject to only Sealand customs controls. They are getting away with it because they are playing the game and taking a responsible outlook on customs. On the UK end HM Customs will vary between none and a full on international arrival procedure whether by sea or by air. The fact that happens every now and again keeps everyone honest and also helps reinforce the fact that the UK takes it's (Sealand's) sovereignty seriously. They have lost far to many court cases to be game to take them on again, every time they do it adds more to the case that it is indeed a nation of its own. For the same reason they should never have removed all the 37s, even if dismounted they should have remained on the platform and thus "in country". It's a lot easier to keep a liberty than it is to regain one surrendered and for that reason they should have remained. Me? I would have added a few reproduction muzzle loading cannon to gunports cut into one of the higher levels of the towers. What's the point of having your very own sea fort/micronation if you can't yell "run out the cannon!" now and again? Scrap iron is cheap, you could cast your own shot in house and have a load of fun shooting at a 44 (55 to you Yanks) gallon drum raft. Even more fun with hollow projectiles and some binary :) I also doubt that the one gun rack seen on the most recent footage is all they currently have , it's very much sporting (trap/skeet guns) and vermin control pieces (.22s and .410s) buy what country plays its entire hand arsenal wise? As an old friend of mine once said "you can buy anything and I do mean ANYTHING dockside in Antwerp, Hamberg or Rotterdam and being dockside already and being dockside already you can then have it sent almost anywhere with a seaport" so whatever Sealand wants Sealand can get. As long as what happens on Sealand stays on Sealand the UK looks to be ahppy to let it be because it can't risk losing an appeal to the World Court or the UN which given the amount of time their independence has not been seriously challenged they may well win. That would be a huge loss of face to the UK. For a similar instance google "Principality of Hutt River" for the Aussie version.

@FroggyHopScotch30 But it doesn't keep advertisers away. Do companies not advertise on say, CBS because they showed Saving Private Ryan or showed a news story announcing that 20 Russian soldiers were killed in a battle last night? I think you are ascribing way too many ethics to your average advertiser.
11
All praise to our Lord, hail Gun Jesus!
11
I've used a MK2 version of the LEM conversion Bren, I quite liked it. Mine has a Kahles 2x optic fitted and while it was obviously no sniper rifle it was a nicely accurate LMG out to quite impressive ranges. I could put a 30rd mag into a 10 or 15 foot square at 800 yards making life rather difficult for anyone who happened to be occupying it.
11
A gunsmith can make a vast improvement on the reliability and they are very sensitive to ammo. For some reason, they seem to like PMC ball or at least they used to, that stuff has obviously changed since then.
10
I wonder if the USSS ones were made in the White House woodshop?
10
@dbmail545 Painful 😁 As someone said I'm sure you get used to it but it would be like doing the same with a .44 mag all day long.
10
@flankerrulz Not really but what we needed we could obtain. Sourcing munitions was never a large issue.
10
@TheArchaos can confirm 100%
9
Ah the episode we have been waiting for!
9
@GaiusCaligula234 Dude, it's a meme, a famous meme.
9
Another book I really want but the postage will make way too expensive. 😟
9
And it worked, really well.
9
This is simply a must for The Armed Forces of Elbonia!
9
@mjbranch2109 Thats not what reproduction means, mate.
9
Nothing ever changes, the DRC is still a shithole. Can't say I miss the place . . .
9
I will bet that receiving fire from 1800m (especially) in 1870 would be somewhat disconcerting and more so if it were 40 or 50 Gras in volley fire. Just the rounds impacting around you would be bad enough but if they get a couple of your buddies you are thinking "We are still over a kilometre and a half away, what will happen at 300m?" Area fire, even with bolt action rifles has its place even today. All you need do is get close enough that the impact is seen and heard, if you get one or two of them, even better.
9
That is one heckin' beautiful pistol. Of course, it's Fireplace Guy's.
9
Maybe he owns the other one . . .
8
@laurisikio Because they are not his to shoot, are quite old (this one is 100 remember) and sometimes fragile. They are guns up for auction and some may never have been fired by their current owners who may not be prepared to take the chance. Can't blame 'em.
8
Mini 14s are like M1 carbines, everyone should own at least one.
8
@PalleRasmussen Ian is the first to admit he's not the greatest shot in the world.
8
@DanaOrtiz Don't believe everything you read mate.
8
@stefanmolnapor910 Well, they do but you need 5,000 plus to be in that club.
8
Oh i was hoping for this!
8
@G_Ludwig STG34K is the maker's designation, not a WW2 weapon. "Stemple Takedown Gun" 34 (MG34 based) K (short)
8
@a.hollins8691 HE/incendiary compounds
8
pj jp Who the hell are you babbling about and why? Keyboard warrior much?
