  2. While I'm fine with rejoining the EU, the damage has already been done and repairing trade, diplomatic and security agreements would take decades, If ever. The larger question is how do we stop something like this from happening again? The answer is removing power from the few and restoring the plurality of the media.

  3. The only administrators in the NHS should be senior doctors who have worked in the system and know it inside out. Not fresh from economic school management types. Over a decade ago many of us pointed out how the Tories were repeating their enforced Privatisation methods in the NHS. Cutting funding, reducing incentives for workers, and creating more layers of unnecessary administration until the Service is no longer fit for use. Then they offer private finance as a solution until the service is fully privatised and controlled by mercenary profiteers.

  5. Make being an MP a full-time job then ban second jobs and side earners/backhanders. That will get rid of most of the chancers and attract people interested in doing the job with care for their public image and constituents.

  12. While I'm not worried about Farage and not 100% convinced as to his story. I will say that banks should not have any say in our opinions and should have bank accounts available for anyone with any level of finance. Posh banks may choose not to let us paupers use them, that's fine as they are set up to handle the wealthy. But normal banks should not dictate acceptance of opinions or stop people having an account for those reasons. We are completely dependent on banking in the digital age and no one should be cut off from the ability to collect wages, pay bills, pay rent/mortgage etc.

  16. Say what you want about his package, But I just think we're lucky those generous Tories have been putting so much money into the NHS and public services while growing our economy. I mean imagine the problems we'd be having if they'd been forcing through punishing cuts to the NHS and Public Services to feed corporate greed while destroying our economy for the past 12 years...

  19. Agreed, The NHS in the 70s was fully funded, we had family doctors, no waiting lists, and twice the beds we have now run far more efficiently for a lower cost. The problem now is overpriced contracts, layers of admin and management, debt from private finance, sale of profitable NHS assets and essentially soft privatisation. I'd love to compare the amount of profits taken out of the NHS by shareholders these days in comparison to the 70s. I'm sure that would be very telling about where the taxpayer money is going. We have 1 in 10 people on NHS waiting lists, I've been on an urgent list waiting for an appointment for over a year.

Intelligence, ability and leadership are not essential to being PM - Just ask Theresa May or David Cameron.

I understand her intention may have been to show an interest but the prevalence of this attitude in aristocracy was also highlighted by Megan for which she received bad press and threats from the far right. I can't imagine how someone would feel being born in Britain to be so questioned, it's the same as Americans who use the term African-Americans to enforce a difference. An American lady who visited Sweden was almost in tears when she was simply referred to as American without the prefix African. It's hard for us to understand how a person's perception, confidence and place in the world can be challenged and harmed with this type of subtle ethnocentrism.

  39. While I understand tobacco is harmful, banning things just leads to criminality. We all accept responsibility for our choices and should be allowed to make them. Fast food, sugar, air pollution, alcohol and many other things in society are just as bad if not worse for the nation's health.

  40.  @b00ts4ndc4ts  No those profits go to the Dutch, Chinese, German and other owners of our rail networks and in many cases goes towards supporting their own nationalised transport systems. Before neoliberalism and privatisation, we use to run a debt-to-GDP ratio of around 40% max, now it's almost 100%... Our taxes go to shareholders' offshore accounts and out of our economy!
