  21. There’s a channel called Munro live that shows some of the stuff the company Munro and Associates break down and evaluate. At first they were extremely critical of Tesla because frankly when the broke down a 2016 Tesla, it was a mess. Now they have nothing but glowing praise. The gigacasting, octo-valve and nearly everything else are master classes on good engineering.

  33. Tesla controls 70% of the EV market in the US. The next best seller is the Ford Mach E with 10%, and the rest are little more than rounding errors compared to Tesla. Tesla are easily the leaders in self driving. Their update 10 software is revolutionary. Their closest competitor is Waymo, who se cars are locked in one area with preplanned routes.

All of the of the self driving providers are hugely deficient compared to Tesla. Tesla’s version 10 of their SFD is working in working in vector space to make active productions of where the car and other objects are going to be. No other company is doing that. They’re all working in image space, which is just looking at where the car and other objects are.

A localized solution may take a false lead, but it’s going to be out competed general solution that can go anywhere. Waymo works like a more flexible local bus service. Trying to scale that isn’t going to work. The best that’s going to happen is a patchwork of areas. You’re criticisms of Tesla’s SFD are from the previous versions that aren’t using vector space. Part of the reason working in vector space is such an improvement is that the problem in parking-lots and other places are solved. Tesla’s predicted accuracy are already higher than humans under all but the rarest situations, and their data pool is incomparable to all of the others. The other companies have a few hundred cars collecting data to improve their AI with. Tesla has millions of cars sending back data to train their AI with.

  38. Companies are always balancing the inputs and outputs, quality being just one output. For example, the model T wasn’t the best car Ford could build, but it was the car Ford could build at a cost the middle class consumer could afford. That’s, also, not to say some companies try saving money by cutting corners. Unless you’re products are competing against each other, there no reason not to bring a new or improved product to market. I mean, if you can up stage the competition, more people will buy your product.

SpaceX is currently eating everyone’s lunch, and Tesla has over 70% of the EV market in the US —other companies are even imitating Tesla’s features. Elon is very good at leading teams that find and attack the core of the problem. Those huge teams are terrible at that; they just keep doing what they’ve been doing.

  50. No, broken glass is a safety hazard; glass in cars is designed to break in relatively safe rounded pieces. Emergency personnel would be much better off using glass breakers the few times they need to get people out of through a window.
