Sure, it's also good to keep a handful of specialists close so you don't have to brute-force every problem with numbers, but that's easy when you convince them that it's a team of equals who all bring something different to the table (afterall, wouldn't want to trigger the inferiority complex of the professional killers who guard you while you sleep).

  14. IMO, the less Galahad we get the better unless someone does a good job wiping the Sue-ness off him. Gwain, Tristain, and some of the other knights of the round table would be nice to see more of though. There's some nice story that can be done with Arthur, Gwain, Merlin, and Morgan if both the latter stick to their pegan versions over the change from the old pegan ways. Arthur in some versions of the tales embodies the change from older pegan ways to a new religion and society, and the ways and reasons each react to that could be explored a fair bit. You can make a lot of stories around little 3-4 character sets around a theme, but then all the stories center around Arthur as he ties all the stories together. Then, you can have a narrative over all of them of how both how powerful a group built around a great leader can be, but also how fundamentally fragile such a structure can be when it all comes crashing down.

  15. PJ Demigod Danny may not make the best decisions, but "politically savvy" Cersie is not. She may have power and succeed in politics because of marrage, Tywin being her father, and people consistently underestimating how evil and foolish she is (leaving her to do things they didn't expect) but she pretty consistently acts in ways that make her situation worse, not better. She's responsible for most of the problems in her own life and close to half of the dead characters were smarter than her (including ones who weren't even playing the game). She just started in a more advantageous position.

Low tech metallurgy is an interesting subject analyzing with modern understanding the creative solutions people were coming up with when they didn't understand the elements they were working with and often weren't even able to produce temperatures high enough to melt the metals they were working with. I'm normally learning about it through the metallurgy for weapons (steel and bronze), so I didn't know this one either, but found it no less interesting.

Most times when a place is conquered, assimilation happens the other way around and the locals are lucky to be able to keep their culture (which is good for the conqueror too, as it makes them less rebellious). It's not common that the conqueror assimilates into the conquered culture, and even rarer that a habbit is made of it.

Atheists make up only a fraction of a percent of prison populations and are less likely to approve of torture. Likewise, religiosity correlates fairly strongly with higher levels of violent crime (and many other negative social metrics), whether we're talking countries or states in the US.
