  2. ​@ocularisvanleer5789 That's my basic understanding of it. That you can run up as high of a debt as you want because supposedly a country can't go bankrupt. Just ignore all the many many times throughout history that's occurred from countries that created their own currency too. If it was a simple as print more, do they really think that's never been tried before? Of course it has and it's followed by hyper inflation. Look at Venezuela or Argentina as very modern day examples.

  3. That has been another huge problem with that party. No matter where you're from, you vote how California and New York does federally or you're out. No matter what values they run on, they vote with the party at the federal level. It's why no matter how much I like a Democrat candidate and what they say, even their past record, I can't vote for them for a federal office. We need to remind people of that when they start pushing moderate southern Democrats forward for president.

  6. I've heard it's been going on around on Twitter, but I've said it since this started. They're upset that the head of the Executive Branch is involved with the Executive Branch. There's a provision that allows for the president to bring in gifted and talented people in the private sector into the Executive to help with a specific task for the president. This was put in and approved by Congress decades ago, but they'd rather pretend it doesn't exist.

  11. Exactly. Now "news" is considered entertainment. Even by the courts. It's all editorials instead of news. Even older newspapers that are still in print or online the editorials are almost the entire thing. There'll be a couple of news stories and everything else will be labeled editorial. At least that's labeled though unlike news channels.

Instead of tieing funding to improvement it tied it to test scores. Which created the teaching to the test system. Teachers are given a curriculum of what's likely going to be on it and that's what they plan lessons with. You're limited to how many kids can even be recommend to be held back. Then the teacher has to go before the school board and present a case as to why they should be. Grades aren't enough. Edit: They're also evaluated on college readiness. How many are committed to a college before graduation. Counselors don't talk about trades or jobs anymore because of it. It's all college major discussion. That's from Obama's push for students to be "prepared for a global workforce." Instead of preparing them to find jobs. Common Core is the name of Obama's education reform.

  13. ​ @elizabethjones3484 ​ Parents take exception to teachers or anyone referring to their children as "my" kids. That's a possessive word. As in they belong to me. It indicates a mindset of how that person views children they see, in some cases, an hour a day. That they are equal to or even more important than the parents. You talk about boundaries, and if you're talking like you have some type of claim on someone else's child, that's crossing one. Not a single one of my teachers ever said "my" kids. They said "I treat those kids like my own." All these teachers are supposedly "educated" teaching children of the "uneducated", but even the uneducated understand that words have meaning behind them. That your choice of words reflects how you view something. I don't know where teachers have been taught to use this phrase, but parents have repeatedly said they don't like it. Rather than acknowledge that and change their phrasing, we're met with being lectured like you just did and told your life story to try to gain sympathy instead of simply stopping using it. Which again indicates a mindset of I know better than you, you're beneath me, I'll refer to your child however I please.

  16. No. That's a misunderstanding of tax codes. If you look at them outside just the rate, nobody paid that rate. If they were taking 90% of Carnegie, Rockefeller, etc money every year how'd they become so wealthy they had a competition of who could give away the most and all still had enough leftover to support their family for generations? Because obviously nobody was paying that.

Driving up the price. I have a second home because it was my grandparent's house that they built in the 50s. That's a lot of what ends up as rentals. That happened to that neighborhood because the houses were cheap and bought by realtors that flipped them and rented them out.

The thing with people like Zuckerberg is they can be really intelligent in a single area, but really naive and ignorant in most others. They're also very insulated from the outside world. Musk is basically Thiel just smarter in different areas. They both look at the world in a unique way to everyone else.

In fact, where JD Vance is talking about being from, there are areas with no electricity or water treatment. The poorest area in the US is the Appalachians. I'm not meaning to derail the conversation, but you seem to be under the impression that's only a Native thing. There are also areas in Louisiana that are very rural with a black population that also don't have access to those things. Generally speaking though, that particular group live that way by choice to stay connected to their heritage.

  25. Personally I don't think the government should be funding it in the first place. There are charities that do it and private companies. The scientists in the government that do the research then get paid from the patent for the rest of their lives, but the taxpayer gets nothing. If the medications were sold at just above cost of production because our tax dollars funded the research, maybe then I'd feel different. Until then, not interested. Edit: Where's the research into prostate cancer? It's all focused on women. Breast cancer due to massive research and education pumped into it is already has one of the highest survival rates. Time to move to one of the lower ones.

Edit: The judge allowed if 4 voted on one charge and 4 on another that that would be a guilty which isn't how it's ever been.

Since we'd seen similar occur various times (Women's March and Kavanaugh confirmation hearing) before, it absolutely made sense to have more people there. Why aren't you also calling at least 3 other times protesters have stormed buildings in the Capital an invasion, too? Also, I wasn't aware the American people could invade the People's House. Edit: For some reason, people forget that every federal building, particularly the ones our government operates in, is owned by We The People. Not the politicians we allow to sit in them.

  36. No, it didn't because what he's claiming we don't focus on has been what we've focused on since the late 80s. You can't look at today's school system and make his claims. Recess as been almost completely removed, trade skills have been removed, anything that taught life skills has been removed, homework has gotten insane, etc. Daily homework now is 2-3 hours worth. Our entertainment shows the jocks and popular girls as the bad guys. Athletics teaches teamwork and a competitive spirit. During our peak our nerds were also fairly accomplish in athletics as well as academics. The only people saying he's right hasn't had a kid in school in the last 15-20 years. The issue with education is the teachers not teaching and standards lowered so failing kids aren't held back. It has nothing to do with athletics or our culture. In fact, the US has the 2nd most unhealthy work culture in the world. Just behind Japan. Edit: The people in his culture that work 80 hours a week is the slave class.

That lesson is that the truly highly gifted tend to be goof offs because they're bored. Einstein is a prime example of it. He got kicked out of several schools for being a mischief. What he's advocating for doesn't produce geniuses because if you have to work that hard to pass basic studies, you're not really intelligent. Much less creative. The student that comes up with a million ways to make mischief is the creative and innovative one. Not the kid with their nose shoved in a book memorizing stuff.

A tattoo isn't going to give you cancer, shorten your lifespan, give you osteoporosis, and make you infertile. As an adult you can't get a vasectomy or your tubes tied until in your 20s because there's a high probability you'll change your mind, but a pubescent child can be sterilized?

  41. I entered school not long after it was implemented. I've watched our education rate drop steadily since then. It wasn't a big deal at first and then every administration had to fiddle with it.

I decided to look into all the states' economies because more are people are moving to mine now than during the lockdowns. Come to find out, we're one of the fastest growing economies. New York isn't really doing so when it used to be a powerhouse. Tourism is way down because of the violence. This is only going to hurt them because people will be afraid to do business there now.
