  5. Anyone who is well read sees so many holes in his theories that they ultimately throw up their hands. It would take too long to unravel. He has painted himself as the quintessential underdog who triumphs, as were Jesus and Socrates. Good use of archetypes, it works great. Seems like a nice enough guy. His family had to face a lot of rare illnesses, I give him credit for making the money they actually needed and putting it to good use. He's not motivated by greed.

  7. @darlingdeb7010  I agree with the true maverick journalist Whitney Webb: don't pay too much attention to what people say. Watch what they do. Do you imagine these two aren't setting up trust funds for their children? Really? Peterson earned a doctorate, and whatever anyone may think of his politics (personally, I find them 80% laughable), he was and is a highly qualified clinician who helped many people. His daughter didn't finish college and is a podcaster, thanks to being his daughter. Abigail Shrier is the daughter of two judges and a Yale Law graduate. Does she take the cases of struggling parents, to vindicate their right to parent their children as they believe to be best? She could represent some of the people they are talking about, who were targetted by this gender madness, and turn some lives around. Children's lives are at stake. Doing something to change that is harder than writing up a rant about it. If she really believes what she says, why doesn't she help some individual families? She could. She's a lawyer.

(As a result, no one asked anyone anymore, obviously.) This woman is also using the moment for indoctrination. That is a shame, as she is so right about so much. Integrity is lacking across the board. No one misses a moment to push an agenda or make a buck.

Racism is an ideology that emerged in the 16th century in Western Europe, which questions whether non-Western Europeans are fully human or a separate species, or inferior ("degenerate") exemplars of the human species. It does not exist in pre-modern European history, and it is not a simple preference for one's own ethnolinguistic group, which is a general tendancy in all social groups. Anyone who reads the ancient Greeks or Latin literature cannot help but be struck by it right away. Or, consider the conquest of the Americas by the Spanish and compare it to the English; you cannot miss the difference. The Spanish were eager to convert the most beautiful Aztec women to Catholicism and marry them. Cultural supremacy? Ethnocentrism? Obviously, and deeper than any that's familiar to us now. Racism? You must be kidding.

  23. @heyitsme That's not how past trauma is analyzed under the law. If you commit an assault against someone, and their suffering is more extreme than it would otherwise have been because it was not their first experience of assault, that is a reason to increase the compensation you have to pay if they were to sue you in tort. You don't get to pass that off as their tough luck. In criminal court, judges take victim impact statements as well, though those are more on the order of catharsis than to make a large difference in penalties. Look how no one wants to take responsibility! Neither those committing assaults and rapes, nor those making false accusations.

  33. What I find interesting is that it was Naomi Wolf who demanded accountability and consequences for bad acts, and somehow she is getting dismissed. When Dr. Peterson points out how important accountability is, and brushes aside excuses, everyone praises him. Why is that? Wolf is an immensely accomplished person, who made a fortune with her writing years ago, and even went back to school late in life to complete her doctorate, at OXFORD. She resisted the COVID hysteria. And her husband is a veteran. Sounds to me like a truly successful life. If someone like that can still feel what it was like to be a vulnerable, idealistic, naive teen at Yale, in awe of all the famous people there who turned out to have feet of clay, then maybe that really is a big deal? It could be, you know.

She was very good in her area of law, but much more important, MARRIED a Harvard law professor. So, she made it on terms these two could (perhaps grudgingly) accept. (Look up "spousal hire.")
