I was 18 and had just registered for the draft on Sept 11, 2001, I was a high school senior, and it was the LITERAL END OF THE F-ING WORLD to us. I can close my eyes still today and see each tower fall on the TV in my high school classroom, who I was in the room with, and who of those people volunteered and died in the war that came after. My high school graduating class is trauma-bonded for life from that, we were the Class of 9/11, 2002. I was elected as graduation speaker and I very deliberately said NOTHING about 9/11 in my 10 minute speech, because WHY, what could I or anyone else say that hadn't already been said 100x times? My speech was about moving PAST that, to the future.

This June it'll be 5 years since I rescued my mother who had collapsed in her bedroom, pried the door off the hinges, carried her to the car, raced her to the ER, and by the early next morning despite their best efforts, she was gone. It's a terrible feeling, but at least I know the last thing she remembers of me was me doing whatever it took to get her help, and I was the last family member to tell her I loved her as they took her to be seen. I wear a pendant with some of her ashes in it everyday to remind me to do whatever you have to do to help those you care about.

I've worked in State and Municipal government for almost 18 years... in my state if you wanted to see EVERY penny a local city or the state spent, you could file one form as any person and get every check ever written to anyone, BY LAW. They don't provide it it's a CRIME. It's called Sunshine Law, radical transparency. Anything government does is public record. With that standard in mind it's astounding and wild to me they're freaking out about the public seeing where all our federal tax dollars are being expended. These same people complaining should be SCREAMING for transparency of every federal dollar spent. I have to jump through hoops for YEARS, spend hundreds of hours of work, just to eke out some federal grants that will improve the lives of thousands of Americans, like $200k at most, and these USAID people are slanging billions overseas like they're at the strip club, F THAT.

  44. I wasn't really a Vance fan...then he went on Rogan and over three hours of just being able to hear directly from him and about his life and how he thought, he won me over. We're the same age so I ended up really relating to him. Had I not been able to listen to him unfiltered for hours at once, that probably would not have happened, hearing him on the selectively edited news, no way. It's why the 'news' hates the podcast space, it removes them as the middle man.

  46. Also the massive Pacific Palisades reservoir that was empty, that was a FEDERAL call. Let me explain. When built that reservoir was in compliance with all EPA laws. In the 2000s the limits on disinfection byproducts were lowered, and this reservoir using free chlorine could no longer meet them, so they switched to chloramine disinfection. This required a 5 year upgrade program to retrofit a cover to the reservoir because sunlight destroys chloramine and won't disinfect adequately. This cover was discovered to have tears in 2023-ish that required it to be removed to repair, a year+ project. While uncovered it could not produce legal drinking water per EPA. That's why it was empty, to comply with FEDERAL regulations. That's not an excuse, that's an explanation.
