  4. The way we beat the virus is to get the economy going again! With this many people not working, with businesses suffering losses like this, state and local governments are TAX REVENUE FUCKED. Because their revenues are thusly fucked, their ability to fund things like healthcare, hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, all that will be severely diminished. Along with strain on funding for things like fixing roads, keeping the drinking water flowing, treating sewage, all that stuff no one thinks about.

  8.  @justhecuke  True, but in my case I'm maxed out, I'm a department head, I'm a director, I've been at my employer literally years longer than even my supervisors (because they're politically elected office). I don't need to build relationships, THEY have to do that with ME. My direct reports are loyal to me. They'll even tell me, just because you work for the mayor doesn't mean I work for him, YOU are my boss, he's your boss, we do what YOU tell us. You know how you get that kind of loyalty? By absolutely never asking for it and trying to avoid it at all costs. It's a strange thing I've seen countless times in my own life, people for the most part stack up in line behind a reluctant leader, and betray those who WANT to be leaders. If you jump out in front to lead, people won't follow...if you step up when you don't want to, people see that and respect it. The more you want it the less you'll get it.

MANY big channels have dedicated commercial real estate for studios, staffs of dozens, it's been completely raped by commercialism. The days of what it was supposed to be, one person making a video organically, left the second monetization started and algo-chasing normalized. Pokimane had a $120K+ budget just for Starbucks delivery in the early 2020s. They're not wfh-ing. Even OF models lease commercial workspace away from home now.

  16. China probably had more deaths but they definitely had more cases. The real numbers may show the virus is far less lethal than assumed. In my own state, the more people at risk they test with symptoms, the fewer infected they find. Our rate is about 6%. Death rate is less than 1%

  24. If you move out of the cities you don't need a 'work' job anymore, you can start LIVING instead. BIGGEST brain. I own a farm. I'm counting the days until someone at my career job can do my job so I can quit and go run my farm, I'll make way more money doing that but I need full time for it. Homesteading is a HUGE industry right now, and you can't remote work it. I have friends who just collect eggs once a morning right now and earn way more than I do in my career, all in cash too, and that's just one revenue stream.

  31. My biggest criticism of wfh is if you work from home you now live at work. You're on 24x7x365 because you're there. It's awesome being able to clock out at the end of the day, hop on my motorcycle, turn my phone off, and boom, work no longer exists to me, until it does again. Think about it like heroin, if you have your drug dealer's stash in the other room in your home office, it's ok if we do a little, right? Its just one more thing I need to work on, just one more email to send, I know it's 2am but just real quick.... At least that's me, if I could work from home I'd obsessively work all the time because it would be so convenient. I'd never get any life done. Working in a physical location, which requires millions in massive machinery to do so it can't be done from home (would actually be illegal under state law to do from home) gives me that Compartmentalization I need to not be a workaholic.

  40. The time has come for the US: high speed passenger rail here is a BS idea. No one takes trains. But high speed cargo rail, that's a winner in a nation this size. It doesn't even have to be that 'high speed' and you can move a product from NYC to LA in less than 24 hours, something large or numerous, by train.

  42. It's going to be far more impactful than we can imagine. My father is 79 and my mother is 74. One could say they've 'seen some shit' in their time. I described how the store shelves look locally to my father, and asked my mother after she'd gone shopping and seen for herself, "Have you ever seen anything like this? Shortages in the United States?". Both are in complete disbelief. My father was 5 years old when WW2 ended and he says they never wanted for anything he can remember, even then, and definitely not in the 75 years since. THAT ALONE is going to mindfuck anyone with a brain. I thought I was psychologically prepared for it, but to go see empty stores for yourself and see your fellow citizens looking shellshocked and zombified going through the store...it just dawned on me that THIS, right now, is Ge Z's 9/11, just like 9/11 was my generation's Pearl Harbor. Their lives especially are now going to be split into before, and after.

We WILL all get it, the sole purpose of the precautions we're taking is so everyone doesn't get it at the same time, to distribute the ill over a longer timeline. And yes, it IS similar to AIDS. You have non-stop unprotected sex, you will contract disease, but if you take measures to stop the spread through the population through your own actions, such as monogamy, abstinence, and condoms, it will slow or even stop the spread starting with you.
