I realise this a family channel, but that looks like my girlfriend when she thinks she's getting a new car. Steady, steady stream...

Get a forklift. They're SO useful!
1
What's that heatsink looking thing that is off to the left of the distributor, hanging off the rocker cover stud, with no nut holding it down? Intermittent earth or something going on?
1
What do you do with the battery and alternator when welding? In my experience, the surge of the welder tends to bugger the diodes, etc., in the alternator, and apparently, batteries get upset as well. I just used to disconnect everything, inc. ECMs and shit. Not worth the risk.

Silicone causes way more trouble than it's worth. Good old Gasket Goo, if you can still get it, fixes a multitude of issues. Heaps of other oprions, too, but I really never trust silicone.
1
I'd have done the top bolt first, but then, I'm not doing the job.
1
It was fun!
1
Interesting and scary.
1
Try that in NZ, and your car would get pink-stickered. I.e., condemned, unless you replaced all the welded bits - if you were lucky. Otherwise, she's crusher material.
1
Like 3D printed meat...
1
The rears.
1
Hardly built for ease of servicing...
1
Champion plugs. The N9Y plugs caused me SO much trouble. No more Champions for me.
1
Seriously? A water-cooled washer pump? Well, I do declare.
1
Fairly small oil pickup - no wonder it died.
1
Dorman. The "Kiss of Death".
1
Not that I know what I'm talking about, apparently, but I never tighten anything until the car has at least sat on it's own weight once. I prefer to tension the bolts while the weight is on. Tell the guy on the phone to take a hike, the scamming weasel.
1
Maybe just the ABS working causing customer complaint, e.g. they drive hard and fast, then hit the picks hard as hell. Shudder City. yep, and that will glaze the rotors, in my limited experience.
1
Someone's had a go at patching/fixing that. New shiny spot/tack-welds - scary.
1
"Phantom swivel". Yes.
1
I can't keep watching - these vehicles make me sick with their piss-poor design and shitty quality, (non-quality), parts. Feel for you, and it's only going to get worse. I'll wait for a non-Stellantis job before I come back to you. Cheers, Ray. You have more patience than I do.
1
Dunno how you do it. I'd be having a major tantrum after the first 15 minutes. Must be getting old.
1
I wonder if that "tinky-tink" sound is a cracked fleplate?
1
That water pump is huge - looks like it belongs on some sort of Caterpillar engine...
1
Shit, I'd have it.
1
Seen the 2022 crash test results? Those things are lethal.
1
My Aussie 4.1 litre Flacons always did main bearings, not con-rod shells. They were shit anyway, even from new-ish.
1
I am a fan of smoke machines. GM vehicles with boosters seem to fail rather more than others, or am I imagining that? I've had several Holdens, (GM Australia), do this.

Got told flat-out, (I had done a bit of investigating), that NO WAY was the fuel cap going to cause ANY issues. Car ran like a bag of dirt. These guys scanned it for $100. Nothing wrong. Big sticker under the hood showing the fuel cap as an essential component in the Evap system. Went next door, to the opposition, where he charged $50 for a scan. Can't recall the code, but it was a cam-angle sensor. Who gets my business these days? I'm sure it's obvious. Nice guy, too.
1
Good plan. Throttle-body bolts as opposed to the drama of hoses. Wise choice.
1
"Jackwagon". That's a new one for me... With your permission, I may appropriate that word for my own use under similar circumstances.
1
If it's been driven relatively sedately throughout its life, then what about giving it a decent run in third on the interstate too get the revs up, and use heavy throttle as much as possible? It's worked on a couple of cars I had, including a definite smoker. Was fine after that. Not saying it'll fix what you're driving there, but, if the engine is gonna have to be stripped anyway, then why not give it a blast to "blow the cobwebs out"? I like the injector substitution plan - it had definite possibilities. I believe that some of those Camry and RAV 4 engines are somewhat sub-par in the oil control department. Not like ye olde 5S-FE.
1
Fantastic forensic examination. California. Nope.
1
Solenoid lead.

Narcissism is a mental health condition that involves an excessive focus on one's own needs, worth, and self. Insanity dressed as a normal person.
1
Raybestos parts - funny!
1
What about water in the fuel, cos it sounds like it.
1
Auf Deutsch. You sound like my brother...
1
USE the lube, before you try stripping these things...

3rd generation Hi-Ace on dirt roads. There's a universal joint on the bottom of the steering column. It broke, all abraded to shit, so it was lucky it was only in second gear, going uphill. Dumb design. Damaged the van a bit, falling into a ditch, but it must have broken later on after I sent the entire column away to be rebuilt, as the last owner lost all steering at speed, and the thing looked like a squashed can. He lived - just. Pity - it was a good van.

Mine has half the mileage on it, and the oil pressure idiot light has been on for nearly a year. If I switch it off, immediately after starting the first time, it doesn't come on at all. It's always sounded like a diesel since I got it, and I also get Traction Control and ABS lights doing random things, (together). Very weird car. And don't get me started on the central locking... Still a nice car to drive, and rust-free. Currently off the road, as finances do not permit timing belt replacement. Aaaah. Faithful Mazda 2 - with 228K on the clock - 1340cc of pure automotive rage. SO cheap to run, in comparison.
1
How did they drive it like that?????????
1
They're bastard engines when they go wrong, 3.7 or 4.7. I dodged a bullet on my last Grand Cherokee - it got hot in traffic, and started to play up from that point. In NZ, $5K minimum to replace both heads. Sold it, never buying another Jeep. That was number 4. Enough.
1
So how much was a genuine GM radiator?
1
Cheap, thin and low-grade electrical wiring, with seriously downmarket insulation. I'll never buy another Jeep or Chrysler. Perhaps an old Valiant or Plymouth Fury, etc., but those so-called Jeeps or PT Cruisers? No way. Life's too short. I'll buy another Asian car.
1
Tidy looking WJ lurking in front of ye olde Suburban...
1
Rabid axle - that's why it foams and growls.
1
Bent, or simply burnt, on the laking valves. No idea of the mileage on that engine, but would be good to no, given the nature of the cambelt failure... Cheers for a really instructive video - hope there's a follow-up?

Danger, Will Robinson.
