According to him, large bodies of standing water are unappealing to female mosquitoes as a place to lay their eggs, and they will scrupulously avoid those. What they like is the smaller vessels like bottle caps, etc. And those are the ones we tend to overlook as a source of the problem. Dead magnolia leaves, because they "cup up" will be looked upon as the perfect size vessel for egg-laying.
