  7. No one in Ukraine is really in charge; they only resist because NATO allows them to. A person will not negotiate something with you if they believe they can take it whole by force. The fundamental reason the war started and continues is the United States (primarily) believes it does not have to negotiate; that by economic and military means it can take Crimea away from Russia by force. It is the equivalent of Russia wanting to take California and the key naval base in San Francisco, denying the United States access to the Pacific forever.

  8. He had to disable it over Crimea last year because Russia made no secret they were preparing to destroy the satellites. Had he allowed the service network to be used for a military purpose, KNOWINGLY, he could not later object when Russia considered the service and its infrastructure no different from a Leopard 2 tank and wiped them all out.

  10. Ukraine as of last September, had gotten over $205B in weapons, aid and money. Russia's entire annual defense budget is $90B; so their opponent got more than they spend on their own entire military for free for two years. That's like an alien race giving the United States $1.8 TRILLION in free weapons and aid. We'd have so many F-35s you couldn't see the sun, so many warships you could walk from Pearl to San Diego and not get your feet wet, so many tanks and guns we'd have to park half underground as there wouldn't be any space to even move on land. We'd have all that....AND WE'D LOSE.

Honestly, it makes sense----UK can't do it as they are only good at ships while Germany is only good at tanks and land-based systems. France makes good planes, good ships, good subs, good artillery, and good tanks. Only problem is picking a fight with the Bear may get France put back to the Stone Age....

  22. It means very little. They called HIMARS a "game changer" too a year ago. ATACMS is fired from the HIMARS launcher, so the launcher Russia has been hunting and destroying for almost a year now is still the weak point. Just last week the latest version of Lancet attack drone hit a Ukrainian Mig-29 almost 80 km from the front line; its max range was previously 40 km and is now unknown. To reach further ATACMS must be in the sky longer giving AA defense more time to shoot it down. Next year this time we'll be debating the next "game changer"

Then the United States takes the "Aegis Ashore" missiles it currently has in Poland, and moves them 400 miles closer to Russia by putting them into this new "free" Ukraine?? By that logic, Cuba should be "free" to accept Russian nuclear missiles, correct?? How'd that work out...

  41. This past month the battles have been fierce. Not a day goes by without lots of new combat video on all the various military blog sites. One thing stands out to me: BOTH sides are making fewer and fewer mistakes. The "Bradley Square" from June, with Ukrainians running into each other, hitting mines, getting blown up with ease; that doesn't happen anymore. They are still losing vehicles, but they are losing them while attacking, not because they are jumbled up running into each other. The Russians are experienced, that is obvious. Like the Swedish CV-90s that were knocked out and captured last week...the video clearly shows them attacking and firing, but the RPG round comes from the side, not the front. That means the Russian soldier WAITED until the CV-90 passed him before firing, knowing his round had better penetration chances to the side than the front. FPV drone video shows both sides often fly past a vehicle, then turn around to hit it from the rear as most vehicles have less armor in the rear and ex-Soviet ones in particular carry their fuel in the rear. If NATO sends in their troops, it will be a year of them being slaughtered before they gain the experience necessary to survive.

  44. Can't blame him. Look at the POW plane, it was trigger-happy UK mercs that fired the Patriot missile. As AFU begins to collapse, Command and Control is one of the first to go. We saw it in Avdiivka last week when units could not communicate with command because their brigade HQs had been hit by Iskander a few days before. In the absence of orders, they negotiated surrender in small units or they just broke and ran.

There was a report that Shoigu visited the front yesterday and was updated on plans to continue the offensive through the winter. Do the Russians have some mechanism to fight through mud and snow that Ukraine does not?

  50. Same reason nothing will change in Afghanistan. The overwhelming majority of people don't want it to. No country is in 100% agreement about anything, but it is rare for a country to simply walk away from their ancient traditions for "modernity" (whatever that is). I really do not understand why the leading countries in the West cannot just leave others alone.
