  2. IN 1994 I WAS 24 my salary was £17k basic and I eanred £10,250 commission so £27,250. I bought a 3 bedroomed stone built terrace house for £30,000 I had a Toyota Twin Turbo. I ate in restaurants at least 2 times a week and I was in night clubs at least 2 nights a week. THIS WAS NORMAL my commission was higher than most guys I was good, but that paid for the car. I feel so incredibly sorry for young people today - its no fking life, I dont have kids but I just want young people to have a f-king shot at life.

THE INSURANCE ISSUE is super simple to solve - you legislate that the risk has to be NATIONALISED - you can not charge people in a high risk high prices and low-risk low prices You change the same $X per $100k of property ACROSS the country - yes people in low-risk areas will have to pay a slight premium - but this is how a SOCIETY functions. This is how it works in my country.

  6. WHERE I LIVE IN EUROPE I can get everything I need for day-to-day life within 400 yards of my apartment - on the busy bustling little high streets we have ALL OVER the wider city. Maybe 1 time per month I have to go into the city on the bus - 80 cents on a brand new electric bus that runs every 5 to 7 minutes.

But Germany would have lost even if the USA never joined in MYTH NO 2 America was super generous - NO, America was a MASSIVE war profiteer before, during and after the war MYTH NO 3 America developed lots of new tech and nuclear bombs - NO the British developed the jet engine, the computer and nuclear fission and America broke agreements to commercialise these - also the USA was NOT supposed to use a nuclear bomb in war without the permission of the UK, they "misfiled" this agreement and so "forgot" to ask MYTH NO 4 The USA had to drop the bomb on Japan to end the war - NO, Japan was starting to starve and would have surrounded anyway, it was to scare the Russians.

  39. I LIVE IN A CITY WITH A TUNNEL NETWORK from the communist era - this are things I instantly notice that tell me this is NOT used and NOT a command centre: 1) NO LIGHTING SYSTEM. Tunnels are unusable until you put lighting in them. 2) NO CABLE BUNDLES. Tunnels are filled with cables, especially command and control centre tunnels - but even so, over the years its the easiest way to run new cables, Piles of cables. 3) NO WEAR ON THE STAIRCASE. the treads on the spiral staircase have ZERO wear on the edge, the paint is just standard metal primer - it would be worn off in a week of use At best this is an escape tunnel - more likely its just a service tunnel for the hospital.

  44.  @Alltime2050  Well as a Gen X'r - we had very good reason - the USA and the USSR were set to destroy the world any second with nuclear weapons and if you were born after 1990 its really hard to explain to you the massive existential dread we lived with. When I was about 13 - 1983 - a chemical factory exploded about 1 mile away from y house in the UK. We all started crying and said goodbye to each other - we KNEW 100% for sure it was nuclear war breaking out, when we were not dead after about 10 minutes we were genuinely confused and went outside. In true capitalist style, it was actually just the world's largest spill of paraquat and diquat weed killer that will probably cause me to have altshimers [sp?] in a few years... When the cold war ended Gen X were so happy they might NOT die in a flash of blinding light and the world economy was doing so well we spoiled our Millennial kids rotten and told them how amazing the world would be for them - this was a lie. Millennials grew up self-obsessed and understandably bitter about the lies we told them, they didn't bother indoctrinating their kids - Gen Z. Gen Z started essentially from scratch to educate themselves about the world and BINGO 70% of them are socialists QUOTE: "When they do, they tend to imagine despotic, enslaved, or non-functioning societies" As a Gen X living now in Bulgaria - id say that's a pretty accurate description of life in the USA and the UK

But the average person knew the same or even more as a % of the overall available knowledge than the average person today. This is mostly put down to the need for navigation skills and world knowledge that had to be stored as writing was not a thing.
