This quote has been misinterpreted by the gun crowd as an endorsement of the 2nd Amendment. It’s not, it’s an endorsement of the US’s military might. Nothing to do with civilian gun owners
31
You can easily get a job without college, most of them though don’t pay well. Enjoy being poor.
20
XMaster34 the US went in to help South Vietnam, just like in the Korean War when the North invaded
13
True, the GOP right wingers are spending money on Trump golfing trips and corporate welfare. Vote Democrat to stop this Republican abuse
12
This is an urban legend not actual history. Ghosts aren’t real.
11
@williewilson2250 -_- brilliant analysis. The quote is not about the American civilians being armed, it’s about the US being a large and developed nation that would be impossible to invade. True regardless of the 2A
10
Amerifat gun owners will never win against a profesional military. Not even the Viet Cong or the Taliban could win a battle against a professional military, and they were rugged survivalists.
9
Evan Olson you are naive. Civilians with guns are no match for a professional military. Civilians will not give up their comfortable lives to organize in the wilderness
9
Leo O'Ryan Civilians don’t have the money and supplies for a protracted war. You bought 1 anti tank rifle. Great. How’s that going to stop a column of tanks?
7
@williewilson2250 the quote was said in contemplation of Japan invading the US. Japan was not planning on invading any other large nation at that time, it had already invaded China, and other Asian nations were tiny in comparison. So the reason it wasn’t said to any other country is because Japan was not seeking to invade any other comparable nation. This does not prove that the 2A is important
7
It happens all the time
6
You are uneducated. The US has huge costs and salaries to Bureaucrats are a small faction
6
Dr.Whiteboy it was a joke chill out
6
speedy01247 bribes? There is no bribery in the US. Lobbying is not bribery, lobbying is exclusively spent on campaigning. Politicians do not get rich from using lobbyist money
5
Armando Acosta That may be true but I suspect there is always a catch, no such thing as easy money. I bet those jobs likely require something special, like connections, past experience, or are competitive. In other words, a skill set equivalent to a Bachelor’s.
5
@williewilson2250 Yes, yes you are done.
5
Americans do not have stockpiles for an army of rebels. They have personal guns and small stores of ammo. They are overweight and untrained. They are living on the grid and can be killed easily by cutting off water and power. Red Dawn is a dream.
4
True, Texas and other GOP states are drains on liberal states
4
meh G You are wrong. Lobbyist dollars do not go into politicians’ pockets. It goes into their re-election campaigns. That’s an important distinction.
4
MarquisVonMonster college is a smart idea. You can easily make way more money with a degree in STEM than without
4
1. Cuz they have to be to cover costs of expensive batteries. Once costs fall, so will price. 2. All these cars are new. Once used cars start floating around they will be more common and thus cheaper 3. Things are worth what people are willing to pay. So as long as people are willing to buy luxury and luxury-lite cars, that’s what Tesla will sell.
4
Winning means defeating the enemy. So I take it that means that all organized nations besides the US are destroyed. The US would annex land closest and geographically isolated (Mexico, Canada, Greenland). The US military would occupy strategic areas to prevent anarchy, like Japan and Western Europe. But not annex due to distance. Then the US would establish friendly regimes in the rest of lands too distant or difficult to control directly.
3
Wow so you will sit back and let the US protect the world for you?
3
Warped Gecko they also appeared in the Weimar Republic, which was not socialist. Corruption and mismanagement are not exclusive to socialism.
3
innocenty1bystander it will never happen and you know that. Most gun owners have zero survival skills and can’t function away from society
3
AbeusMaximus the US thoroughly thrashed the Viet Cong. Viet Cong suffered 900,000 deaths. Adjusting for the US’s population, that means millions of Americans would die if they launched a similar insurgency. Is that a realistic price that anyone’s willing or able to pay? How about you?
3
Desu Vult Biden does not sniff kids or forget speeches.
3
SeaJay Oceans Russia is being sanctioned too. Do you see Russians starving? Clearly sanctions are not the cause of Venezuela’s poverty.
3
@williewilson2250 “The rifles” are a reference to US service members. It is not a reference to armed civilians or the Second Amendment. The reason why Yamamoto does not ascribe this quote to other nations is because Yamamoto was not discussing other nations, he was discussing the bleak possibility of an invasion of the Lower 48. Has nothing to do with armed civilians or the 2nd Amendment.
3
@edforres1984 You are wrong. Democrats are the only party that makes sense. The Republicans are proven wrong in every major area, like universal healthcare, gun control and climate change, other nations are proof.
2
Stenky what does that have to do with current events?
2
Eman Rodr The US didn’t win the war anywhere yet. Withdrawing troops from the Middle East is a victory for dictators
2
Hi. I’m here to tell you that you are not smart. It’s more nuanced than socialism. It’s specific government policies that aren’t exclusive to socialism.
2
Ben when have civilians defeated the US military? The Viet Cong and the Taliban have never won a battle against the US. And these guys were rugged farmers and survivalists, NOT civilians
2
Jim Johnson you have no training and will never organize into a threat, stop dreaming
2
Hubris the gun nuts don’t have stores of supplies, or allies to fund their efforts. They would give up quickly they’re no Taliban or Viet Cong
2
Andrew Baldi there’s more to being a soldier than target practice, fat gun nuts will never last a real war
2
N. Word Scissorhands I have not served in the military but I know bs when I smell it. Gun owners fighting Red Dawn style is bs
2
Walker Nicholas Barr Americans will never form guerrilla warfare. American civilians have no skills necessary to live off the grid. If a nation has the power to defeat the US military and invade the country, they have power to destroy our grid.
2
His mouth is open and he has a mustache and a beard
2
Children like you should not be on the Internet
2
Haha no. I’m in college and this blows
2
Sweden, not really socialist but still. This isn’t simply a case of “socialism is bad”, it’s more nuanced. Hyperinflation isn’t a socialist problem. It happened to other nations like the Weimar Republic.
2
@Jayo8six0 I can ask you for proof that the Japanese knew and feared armed civilians. There’s no indication that they did.
2
Hysterical witnesses. That woman who “saw a face” is an idiot who shouldn’t have spoken up.
2
Amerifats gun owners are no match for a professional military. If the US is invaded, most likely citizens would be drafted, so there’ll be no militias anyways.
1
@cruzzindodge false, veterans are not well trained for a guerrilla war. -Most aren’t trained even in combat. -Veterans are required to to retake boot camp if they’ve been out for 2 years or more. Meaning their skills quickly deteriorate. -The veterans are meaningless and do not prove the 2nd Amendment will deter a foreign invasion.
1
@amightyshade yes, but if it were to, the 2nd Amendment would be USELESS
1
@gamemastersully8074 if true, it is likely due to other factors. The mountain of evidence from other developed nations, year after year, is indisputable
