  1. PASSENGER SIDE SEAL: Yes, you DO have to remove the locker in order to service the seal, but it's actually super easy (barely an inconvenience) because once you get in there, you just use the same seal driver you did on the driver side.

  4. Pro Tip: Next time, just pop the master switch out of the panel before reconnecting it to the wiring harness in the door. It is more than robust enough to safely support the weight of the switch without damaging components. You can just leave it connected throughout the entire service until you're ready to rehang the panel.

Pro tip: When it comes to re-installing that last bolt that gravity'd onto the floor at the end; if a helper monkey is unavailable, you can use a small, flat magnet on the other side to hold the bolt in place while threading on the nut. A neodymium rare earth magnet is usually the best for this application, and personally, I use magnets out of old hard drives I've torn down because they work best for this use.

  6. Note: The reason the Caster spec is asymmetrical is because a lot of auto makers do this up specifically to deal with the effect of road crown. Road crown ensures water runs down into the gutter instead of staying on the road surface, and tends to cause the vehicle to pull slightly to one side. Putting the caster a bit higher on one side helps offset this.

  7. I would like to note that rule 1 is usually to make sure you DO roll down the window to ensure the keys don't get locked inside when one of the Body Control modules decides it's time to lock the doors or something...

  10. Protip: Heat up brittle plastic with a heat gun or something first, and it greatly helps them become a bit more pliable when working with them. Personally, I use a little micro torch, it becomes nice and soft, I disconnect it, and then bend it back into place before the plastic cools! You'd be amazed how often I'm able to save little plastic clips that would otherwise snap off by doing that....

  13. I CAN SEE THE FUTURE: It'll be back once the stealership gives the owner their '2nd opinion' which will most likely include no warranty work & an estimate about 5-10 grand more than what Ray's shop quoted. (I'll betcha a dollar!)

Wooden blocks come in really handy for this stuff too because a lot of the time, the steel components will dig into the wood in such a way as to form an almost custom holding block before the wood compresses enough to hold it firmly in place. Not to mention different types of wood offer different densities opening up a wide range of trickety-tricks you can do on a press.

  17. Fun Fact: I spent a year working at Uh-Oh Zone back in the day & Dorman actually started out manufacturing little replacement parts that no one else did in their help section. Body and chassis bushings and bearings, body clips, just about anything made out of rubber that wasn't usually available as just a replacement, not to mention all of the OEM hardware the dealer no longer carries in stock. This is why when they graduated to doing bigger stuff, they would include all the stuff no one else even thinks about because that's they came from! Say what you will about Dorman, but they know what's up when it comes to all the annoying little $hit you run into turning wrenches! 😃😃😃

  20. "ROLL....THE....WINDOW....DOWN!!!" That is like one of THE first things they drill into your head in tech school! RTFM, Read safety manual first, never stand in front of or behind a moving vehicle, always wear safety glasses, always be aware of jack and lift safety, and always, Always, ALWAYS roll at least ONE window down so you don't lock yourself out!

  21. Fun fact: It actually IS Duck tape, and started out life sealing ammo boxes in WWII. It got it's original name due to being so water tight, water rolled off of it likes it would off a duck's back. Duct tape, is actually a different thing entirely, and is usually a thin strip of adhesive aluminum used to seal HVAC pipes in larger buildings. Most notably is that while Duck tape it strong lengthwise, duct tape is strong laterally as it's a narrow strip sealing two vents pieces together.

  24. Pro tip Ray: You have GOT to get yourself 'Nu-Skin'. It's a liquid bandage you brush on, and let it dry real fast. It goes on smooth, seals the wound, and is like you aren't even wearing a bandage. It's also anti-septic too so you don't have to worry about infection; just set it and forget it, and it'll peel off all by itself in a week or two.

  47. THANK YOU!!! God, Jesus, EVERY time he does this I cringe. Diode trios are very robust but they do have their limits, especially when an E.M.P. just SHOWS UP outtah nowhere. Working at Autozone, I've actually had to deny warranty claims on BRAND NEW ALTERNATORS because the owners didn't know any better, did EXACTLY THIS, and BLEW UP THEIR NEW NATER!!!! tl;dr = improper installation is an automatic disqualification on the warranty! Nutshell = REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
