@diehardcat - I'd really like to insult your intelligence...but there is nothing there to insult! Lol Oooooo, isn't that a great one! Lol
3
@FrostedSeagull - His name is spelled Lauda, not Lauder.
3
@2adamast - From the standpoint of financial strength, Ford obviously was not the underdog. However, from the standpoint of experience in endurance racing, they definitely were the underdog! Many companies with more $$ to spend still could not beat Ferrari. All the money in the world will get you to the starting line, but it in no way determines that you will win. Never underestimate the critical value of experience.
3
@zabaleta66 - Publicity stunts are an integral component of a strong and convincing marketing plan. Ford didn't do it for kicks! They did it to sell their name and therefore, their vehicles world wide.
3
@Zel - That was more like a childhood spat compared to Ford vs Ferrari, which was an international grudge of the highest order!
3
@chrisreid5745 This movie was really a combination of fact and fallacy - it was not purely entertainment.
3
Agree, I almost ran one over the other day. She just walked out in traffic while intently staring at her cell phone!
3
@YASH K - Enzo tipping his hat was just a movie add on piece - Enzo was never at the race. Just so you know that.
3
@75aces97 - Exactly right! Enzo, for reasons only known to him, did not attend races in which his cars were entered outside of Italy. Hollywood is Hollywood, and all movie makers create, distort or outright change events purely to draw as big an audience as possible. It disturbs me that so many, particularly young people, believe 100% of whatever they see in a movie as fact! That's downright scary when you think of the ramifications involving that error in thinking!
3
@MudhaffarAdhwa - Sorry, but the first Ford GT MK ls were certainly NOT rebranded Lolas. The Lola MK Vl Ford bought was used as a template only in designing and building the MKl. There were no Lola components used in the final product.
3
@rajeevkunapareddy1182 - Enzo set himself up for failure by disrespecting a man with an ego at least as big as his. Personally I'm glad he did or the whole Ford vs Ferrari days would never had occurred! :hand-orange-covering-eyes:
3
@SeaMonkey137 - He didn't since Enzo wasn't even at the race - just a movie add on. Enzo rarely attended any races and even then, only within Italy.
3
@amarjittalukdar1967 - Ford was hardly "humiliated" into leaving India. It was India who should be humiliated, as their obstacles to allow a sound, cost effective eco system to operate successfully, not only drove Ford out, but GM and Harley-Davidson. It's too bad as India could have profited tremendously if it wasn't for their antiquated restrictions and regulations.
3
@amarjittalukdar1967 - Well maybe they get a little different treatment than U.S. manufacturers. American companies don't leave other countries unless the environment is not conducive to making a go of it! Ford is still in England, Germany, France, etc.
3
@alexadams4132 - Never would have worked as Miles was way too aggressive and had his own mindset, which Ferrari never would have tolerated.
3
@mr8883 - Please stop spreading such hypothetical bull. There is no proof at all as to what you are "thinking", if you can even call it that. Conspiracy theorists are the biggest losers because they just don't want to ever believe the truth - just their own made up fiction. You are totally ignorant if you think chugging down the road in your family car at 60 mph is even remotely comparable to a full blown powerful race car going 160 mph on the edge of adhesion. At least pick a subject you may know something about, because you clearly didn't in this case!
3
@a - I'm well aware of who Bruce McLaren was. I was responding to Marti A's comment that this video completely hid the work of McLaren. He made it sound like Bruce did so much more work on the project than he actually did. For the Ford GT 40 project, he was only a test driver that provided feedback on the car's handling, etc. There were more than a few great drivers who Shelby hired to do the same thing.
3
@kadasrichard I agree, because the value of Phil Remington to Shelby American was hard to put into words. There were so many people from all over that provided valuable time and effort to this project, that it would be impossible to cover them all - the movie was 2 1/2 hours long already!
3
@starbeekbeek3179 OK, a Ford GT sponsored by Ford won it a couple times, and a Ford GT under John Wyer/Gulf Oil won it 2 more times. However, Ford did indeed win again 50 years after its first win in the GTLM Class. Do you know what he means by Shelby beats them most of the time? Beats who? With what?
2
@Josh C-B - Ya, right. I think it was the same group of British geniuses that designed and built the rocket that put the Americans on the moon! Do some real research on the subject before you go grabbing all the credit for this car. If Ford hadn't taken the project away from John Wyer and put it in the hands of Shelby American, the Brits would still be trying in vain to use too small an engine, a gearbox that was worse than crap and friggin wire wheels, which had a nasty tendency to break with any real power driving them!
2
The movie was about Ford and Ferrari - Porsche was still losing at Le Mans at that time. Nothing to talk about!
2
As much of a Ford fan as I am, I absolutely agree with you! Those 2 companies couldn't be more different if they tried, and in hindsight, it's a blessing that the sale never happened!
2
@FogHornCraigHorn Not entirely Bud. Miles was a huge plus for the Ford GT40 project, but to say Ford wouldn't have even finished the race and Miles was the "soul reason" the GT was that good is more B.S. than fact.
2
@FogHornCraigHorn - No, Ford did not know Miles would lose, they thought all 3 cars would be declared winners and the ACO agreed that could be done. At the last minute, the ACO changed their mind and declared whichever of the 3 cars at the finish traveled the furthest would be the winner.
2
@jerryp2433 You clearly know nothing about marketing on a large scale with a huge company! Ford's 3 car photo finish was done purely as an opportunity for Ford to emphatically get the most out of a 1-2-3 finish, a much bigger impact visually to the buying public than having the 3 cars spread out. Was it a mistake? Of course it was, but was there anything pathetic or tacky about it - absolutely not.
2
@KennyThaSharp Even though the Mach E GT will eat anything you drive for lunch! Ha,ha
2
@missymissymiss5192 Sorry, but that's a very lame comment. Do you really think giving Ken the trophy would have made him the winner? The governing body which is the ACO is the only party who can declare or deny a winner. I'm sure Ken wouldn't have accepted it either.
2
@FogHornCraigHorn While Miles absolutely contributed much to the development of the GT, he hardly was the soul reason for its success! Phil Remington and his Shelby crew did more than their share in modifying and improving the car from a mechanical standpoint! Holman-Moody did their part in tuning the 427 to provide the power and reliability needed to survive and win the 24 hour race.
2
@mrtee3477 - Now there is a statement based on sound judgement and fact! Look up the definition of a movie numb nuts, and maybe you'll understand. Naw, you won't!
2
@shirolee - Gee, last time I checked, that's exactly what they are in business for!
2
@kadasrichard - Wyer was involved in the early development of the GT 40. When he couldn't produce winning results after 2 years, Ford turned the program over to Shelby American. Wyer was no longer involved until Ford ended its run after 1967. Wyer then purchased the GT40 production rights and the UK GT40 racing organization from Ford and got Gulf Oil to sponsor his cars for '68 and '69.
2
@missymissymiss5192 Are you serious?? He didn't accept the trophy in good conscience, he accepted it because the official rule makers gave it to him for winning!
2
@Malzarius85 And two reasons to hate GM!.....they helped the Nazis to try and capture Russia and screwed the American taxpayers out of some $9 billion dollars in stock devaluation. Lol
2
@user-wq8bh4ct3u You make some very strong and valid points here. Good job!
2
@Eddie Costa - No it wasn't Shelby's idea, it was Leo Beebe's.
2
Le Mans 66 is the European title. Here in America the producers felt the need for a title more recognizable to the average person to draw larger audiences.
2
@elwingy - That's what Hollywood movies are all about! In this case, they took a story based on an actual event, and then did what they wanted to liven it up and create excitement. Why? Simple - it's a business looking to make as big a profit as they can - no different than most any company! If you want the facts, don't look for them in a movie, watch a documentary which is far more accurate and truthful.
2
@sschevmale24 Disagree 100%! Actually, Ford was the smart one, because he was convinced by Shelby that by putting him and his crew in charge of the GT 40 project, Ford would be famous!
2
@lc9245 Close! The family company made cars - production cars, only as a means of supporting his expensive racing machines. Enzo would have never made his famous road cars if he had another way to fund his racing program. Henry Ford made cars and created the moving assembly line to make it possible for the "average working man" to afford an automobile. Before Ford, American cars were too few and too expensive, being driven by the upper middle class. He wanted to make cars affordable to most everyone. How the hell can you criticize him for that?
2
@diehardcat - It took me a year to calm down enough to reply to your absurd accusations and false assumptions. Believe me, I've likely read more about Ford and Ferrari at Le Mans than you ever will! You wouldn't know the difference between an underdog and an undercarriage. Lastly, don't ever accuse me of hating anything when you have no clue whatsoever as to my likes and dislikes.
2
@tahsinalam8256 Thank you! Isn't it amazing that some of us get that, while others view a movie like it was unquestionably correct and completely factual!
2
@LandonWalsh Well, since Shelby and Miles were working for Ford, that makes Ford also an underdog.
2
@LandonWalsh Ford was the underdog....Shelby and Miles were the saviours!
2
@2adamast - I didn't hear anyone preventing Ferrari from making a 7 liter engine! He absolutely could have made one, so don't use that lame excuse as the reason he was unfairly challenged and lost to a bigger engine.
2
@user-gu1hl2kx2k Ferrari absolutely did insult Ford by ranting, raving, screaming in Italian at what was supposed to be the signing of the deal. He then fell quiet and simply walked out of the meeting never to return. If that is not an insult, I would sure hate to see a real one!
2
@2adamast - Sorry, just couldn't tell what your point is through that garbled bunch of words/numbers. It makes no sense!
2
@FharishAhmedPortfolio - Glad you love, because I hate it with a passion. It does nothing but reward non performers as though they were out there slugging it out with all their talent. It does diminish the earned rewards significance for those who fought hard to earn it! 👿
2
@FharishAhmedPortfolio - Oh, everything is about me? Wrong! You indubitably guess that English isn't my my first language? Wrong again! You're not doing so well here in your criticisms of me so let's just cut the conversation off, lest you think I am the narcissist you imply. KMAATTSP. 🧐 🥱👎
2
@ahmadfaizul1343 - Oh, I don't know that is particularly true, as Ford paid him more for his services than Ken had ever seen before!
2
And you are a blind fool if you think that! Learn the facts Dude, and not from a movie!
