Rest assured if you drove a Taxi around London's west end nightclubs you're going to see two a night also. I have no doubt at all that Thailand has a higher per capita rate of Trans women, of course but it's not 10x.

  7. Differences vary if you’re pre-op or post-op. If you’re pre-op and stop androgen suppression and estrogen your body will slowly masculinize. Mostly the reappearance of body hair and male fat distribution. If you’re post-op there is no need for androgen suppression so it’s essentially a lack of continued breast development and more female fat distribution. There are cognitive differences also. Nothing particularly serious physiologically, but the changes can be quite disturbing psychologically as one’s body is changing in a way the patient doesn’t see themselves thus causing dysphoria.   9.  @WillJ99999  You clearly don't know what the word revive means in that sentence. Family can also consent and inform medical personnel. People whom want to transmit important medical information to EMS staff have a standard way to do that, with a medical bracelet. The vast overwhelming majority of conditions where someone arrives in the ER comatose and unresponsive is not subject to gender differentiated techniques for resuscitation.. Again, tens of thousands of hospitals in dozens of countries where trans women can legally change their gender are very much aware that transgender people exist. If you don't want to acknowledge this reality, that's up to you. Are we done here? Clearly you're never going to convince me of anything and I'm never going to convince you of anything.

  10.  @WillJ99999  I have every confidence that my wife whom is legally female will do just fine in an emergency situation in the hospital if she was hit by a car and was delivered unconscious to the ER. I have vastly more at stake personally in such a hypothetical than you do and my wife and I are not worried about it in the least. If some other trans person believed as you do (again, not something I've ever heard mentioned by an actual trans person) that their medical care was going to be completely substandard because the doctor in the ER didn't know they were trans then they have the option of not changing their gender marker. It's not mandatory. Maybe they'd rather die as a woman than live legally as a man. Who are you to make that determination for someone else?

That is not the position of the APA nor the WHO on gender dysphoria which are names you should be aware of as someone that's so deeply concerned about medical efficacy. All professional medical organizations support transition for people with gender dysphoria up to and including legal recognition. Do some homework. I'm someone that's witnessed first hand the manifold benefits to the quality of life of LGBT people of being able to legally change genders, marry their spouses, adopt children and socially integrate over the last few decades. Not that you care anything about that. Take your thinly veiled transphobia masquerading as health concerns, elsewhere. Again, dozens of the most advanced countries in the world allow trans women to legally change their gender and they're doing just fine. The legal system is not straining under the increased legal load of medical professionals treating unknown trans people. Crime investigators are not working overtime to handle a gargantuan workload of such cases. You're grasping desperately for any plausible reason to deny trans people the right to legally exist as the gender they identify. Disgraceful.

  13. There have been trans women and trans men socially integrated in South Asia continuously for hundreds and hundreds of years. Rome had nothing to do with South Asia. There is nothing degenerate about the existence of trans people, nor can that be considered having no social norms or an anarchy. Read “Gender Pluralism in Southeast Asia since early modern times” if you actually want to understand this rather than prudish pearl clutching.

  15. A lot of this is lost in linguistic and cultural transition. She’s really just saying that she’s not denying she’s a trans woman. She’s asserting her femininity in her speech. That said, Thailand and South Asia has a more pluralistic sense of gender. In India and Pakistan trans woman are legally a 3rd gender and have been thought of as such. It depends on the influences and age of the trans person. My wife is a Thai trans woman. If you have any questions, just ask.

  19.  @angelbaby9020  The idea is that both social acceptance and legal protections are required. In that measure, Thailand and the USA both have a long way to go. The USA is vast, and clearly not the same everywhere. There are very progressive cities in the US with social acceptance and many LGBT laws in place.

  20. Such technology does not exist at this point. Adoption is always an option. In the future uterus transplants and IVG do provide a path forward for trans women to carry their own genetic offspring but such things will be very expensive and many years down the road.

There are tonal languages all over South Asia. It sounds like you have very little experience with such places and languages, right?

  23. I’m gay and I’m happy. Who are you to tell me otherwise? I know dozens of gay people and dozens of straight people. Some are happy and others aren’t. We’re all human. It’s not an iffy topic it’s an important one. Having this segment of society twisting in the wind without legal equality and social discrimination is a grand injustice in the world and a source of vast unnecessary misery. There are definitely more than 2% in America and Europe and 1% elsewhere. How many people come out of the closet is a function of how difficult it is to be a LGBT person in that place. Look at Thailand. There are plenty of trans women and gays and lesbians. Certainly more than 2% per capita. Now look at the Middle East where you can be put in jail for being gay. It doesn’t take a genius to deduce that how many out and visible LGBT people a society has is a function of how much repression there is in that society.

  25.  @orangutanshades2423  The more people know and see transgender people in media and in real life the more difficult it is to believe untrue negative things about them. If you look at acceptance rates of LGBT people around the world it all comes  down to a personal connections. The more trans women that come out of the closet and transition the more other trans people are willing to do that as well and it becomes a feedback loop where familiarity grows and hatred wanes. It takes time but it works and people with privilege like Ian have an important role in this.

  26. Linguistically the languages aren't similar at all. That said, many Thai people are partly ethnically Chinese as many Chinese people migrated there over many hundreds of years. That said Thai is easier to learn than Chinese. There is no getting around the absurd memorization of writing in Chinese, sadly.

  45. I’ve known many ladyboys and they all have known since they were children that they wanted to be ladyboys since they were very young. They were not forced. If anything they were all forced to try to not be ladyboys and they hated doing masculine things. Watch some ladyboy interviews on YouTube and you’ll see this clearly.
