Not to me.

Like a box of chocolates there is an insert that describes all the confections in the box. You can just ask someone nicely if they're trans and they'll tell you. Easy as that.
2
Why would you think that? I'm gay and I mostly just pity the poor guy.

Completely untrue. No one speaks for all Thai transgender people, firstly. Secondly it would not be mandatory as only the individual can ascertain what gender they feel they are. There are many Thai trans organizations and individuals that advocate for this all the time. Former trans politician in Nan province and the head of the Transgender Association of Thailand, Nok Yollada. Thitiyanun Nakpor-Doi, The Representative of Thai Transgender Community, Sisters Advocates for this all the time also. Jakkaphong Jakrajutatip, CEO of JKN Global Media and head of Life Inspired For Transsexuals (Lift) advocates for this as well. The dangers faced by trans women traveling abroad with a passport that reads the opposite gender as they’re presenting as are very real. Particularly in countries where being LGBT is illegal. I’ve known many Thai girls whom have immigrated elsewhere and have changed their legal gender. This is hardly unprecedented, at least a couple dozen countries around the world allow it. This is a topic I know a vast amount about. My wife is a Thai trans woman. She’s changed her legal gender here in the US and so have many of her trans friends. If you have any questions, just let me know.

@WillJ99999 I know how hospitals work quite well, thank you. When you're a new patient at a new hospital you transfer your medical records from your old hospital to your new hospital and meet with your new doctor to review your medical history, current and past medications, immunizations and allergies. This is standard practice. Have you never transferred your medical records to a new hospital before? As to traveling while transgender, let me quote the US state department from their own website: " Update Your Passport: Some transgender travelers have reported difficulties entering a country on a passport bearing a name and photo that no longer correspond to their gender identity. To change your name only, see the Change or Correct a Passport page. To update the sex marker on your passport, see the Change of Sex Marker page. If you were born abroad, follow the instructions on how to Replace or Amend a Consular Report of Birth Abroad (CRBA) to update gender marker." Again, all of the previously aforementioned Thai transgender advocacy organizations fully support trans women having the right to update the gender marker on their passports and ID. Any cursory web search will inform you of the difficulties that transgender people face while traveling with a gender marker that does not match their their gender presentation.

@bpavilion8994 There is a standard protocol in place called the WPATH standard of care that licensed psychiatrists and doctors follow which carefully outlines the steps of each individual that has gender dysphoria and what treatment is right for them. It has been developed over many decades. If some people decide not to take particular steps or decide to not to continue transition that's completely understandable and completely fits within the model. It's about outcomes. Simultaneously the existence of detransitioners does not invalidate the wishes of those that wish to transition and stay transitioned. At the end of the day it doesn't matter at all what you think or what I think. This is a private decision between a patient and their health care provider, not an internet poll.
2
@bpavilion8994 Talk therapy was tried and efficacy was poor, hence the WPATH standard of care today via Harry Benjamin. Rest assured, I know all about it. That said, gender dysphoria is not monolithic it's specific and varies per patient thus differential specific ameliorating treatments with the patient operating under informed consent.

The moral judgements of others aren’t my concern. Do you live your life according to what I think is right and wrong? Of course not. You live your life according to what YOU think is right and wrong. From my point of view and the point of view of those that support LGBT people there is no moral fault with being lovingly married to a trans woman for many years. If you don’t accept that, that’s fine. Many others do.
2
That’s a structural problem. If trans women can’t legally marry their husbands, and husbands face all kinds of social and family stigma for being in a relationship with a trans women then they’re going to be out there hassling people and begging and doing sex work.
2
By the attitudes in this video, they're going to need it.
2
The only way to know is to try.
2
If you see yourself as male and are attracted to the female form it’s heterosexual.
2
@sugakookies8063 In that case, yeah. If you’re also attracted to guys then that seems bisexual or pan sexual. I’m bisexual too. I ended up marrying a Thai trans girl. She was just too cute to let her get away. 😀
2
Respect and full equality under the law, up to and including legal gender change, marriage equality, public accommodation law and adoption.
2
If you're not homophobic I'm sure you'd say the same thing about a straight man who wanted help being gay, right?
2
Some of the Thai language is actually problematic which is mentioned in a comment below. You should visit Thailand and see what it’s like. My wife is a Thai trans woman but we live in California now.
2
Because there are trans people there?
2
You’ve been to Thailand and asked a lot of Thai trans women about this, have you?
2
The point stands no matter if you’re trans or not. You’ve been to Thailand and talked to a lot of Thai trans women about this, have you?
2
If you really want to be sure, this is the angle of use. Tell her you’re interested in ladyboys and you’re asking to make sure she is a ladyboy and not a cis woman. Then when she tells you she is a ladyboy then you can make your excuses and go. If she vehemently denies being a ladyboy then you’re set. Generally this level of subterfuge is not necessary as one can just ask. No one wants to waste their time.
2
Being mistaken for being trans is not an insult. There are plenty of trans guys that are muscular and handsome. Besides, Miss Universe Spain 2018 is a trans girl. Thai girls I know would not be insulted by such a question asked discretely after getting to know them. Besides all one needs to do in Thailand is to check the ID card. Trans girls in Thailand can’t change gender on their ID.
2
It’s just street interviews with non experts. What do you want to know?

@nominalweb There is no question that the VAST majority of the world is a worse place to be transgender than Thailand. No argument there. It's the best place to be Trans in all of Asia. That said Thailand is a LGBT legal black hole as any LGBT Thai person will tell you. Trans women in Thailand do not have a legal right to use the women's bathroom. They can't legally change their gender. Trans women are barred as a class from entering some establishments and this is legal. They can't legally marry the person they love. Adoption is a problem. Employment discrimination is weakly enforced. In many countries in the west these are common legal rights for trans women. It's for these reasons my Thai wife and I live in California and not in Thailand. What country do you live in?
2
@nominalweb I have heard some reports of how hard it is for trans women there. Like you say, leaving for somewhere more progressive seems like the best option. Sad. Do you know many trans women in the DR?
2
@nunewsmama3461 Unfortunately there just isn’t much in the way of records before the 14th century in Thailand. There are trans people all over South Asia from the Kinnar / Hijra in India and Pakistan, Waria in Indonesia, and trans women present in all the surrounding countries. The records in India of gender pluralistic people go back to ancient times. Western imperialism did a huge disservice to Asian LGBT people, no doubt. My wife is a Thai trans woman so it’s a topic I’m very familiar with.
2
Americans always making everything about themselves again. Stay predictable.
2
You fall in love and marry her. That's what I did. Best decision I ever made.
2
@tomp658 Thank you.
2
Trans women are women to me. Plenty of other guys feel the same way.
2
You don’t think that every trans person has the agency and right to decide this for themselves? Who are you to tell them what to do?
2
Online dating is dumb. Just go to Thailand and chat up some trans girls in real life. Easy as that. I ended up marrying a Thai trans girl.
2
No worries. My wife is Thai trans woman so It’s always a popular event in our household. They have those same contests every year so you can always check out prior years on YouTube as well.
2
@Catcatcat299 Attempting to change your sexual orientation to appease religious doctrine is ridiculous. The history of ex gay ministries is the history of failure. Don’t take my word for it. Any casual web search reveals such.
2
Some trans girls do, some don't. Only one way to find out, right? YOLO!
2
She’s amazingly eloquent and is doing a great job for her community.
2
This!
2
Exactly this. If you can't support your LGBT child you have no business being a parent.
2
yet Thailand has almost no legal LGBT rights and protections while the US has them by the dozen.
2
I’m an American. My wife is a Thai trans woman and is finally a US citizen. I’ve been all over the US and all over Thailand. In Thailand I can’t marry my wife, meanwhile I am legally married in the US. In Thailand, my wife’s ID and Passport all say male and it can’t be changed. Every time she hands her Thai ID over everyone knows she’s trans. I know just how hateful the US can be in some places. I also know that in a small number of US cities it’s a non issue for everyone I’ve met. San Francisco. West Hollywood. In the other adjacent Asian Boss video, the trans woman Sauce details her experience with bullying in Thailand. It’s not perfect anywhere. Laws are also very important when you need them. LGBT people need both.
2
The trans women in the thumbnail look like men wearing wigs?
2
@DJ_TRON I’m keepin’ it Nasty. I figured you’d approve. 😀
2
You gotta FIGHT... For your RIGHT... to Jeeeeerrk Iiiiit. (Extra Beastie Boys)
2
Plenty of real men exist in Thailand. Get into a Muay Thai ring and you’ll see what’s up. Adult prevalence rate of HIV is 1.1%, not even in the top 40 countries in the world. Preventing HIV is easy. Take one Truvada a day. Clinical studies have demonstrated this for years. Why are you so afraid of HIV or talking to a trans girl? Aren’t you a real man that can handle such things?
2
Most ladyboys are not sex workers. They’re working retail jobs or salon jobs as one can easily observe all across Thailand.
2
Some of this is lost in language and cultural translation. The subtext is not the same nor are there any legal trans rights in Thailand.
2
Is two trans people a lot for a taxi driver in a downtown metro of millions of people who sees thousands of people every day?
2
Only insecure people care about being labeled a sex tourist.
2
There is more to life than economics. Trans people transition because they deeply feel the need to do so.
2
@jilldent5514 Actually New York, Sao Paulo and Madrid have the largest pride parades. 4M or so in attendance. Tel-Aviv only clocks in about 250,000. Big for Asia but not for the world.
2
My coworkers are constantly bombarding me with heterosexuality. Heterosexuals do not keep their heterosexuality a secret. I get it. Who you love and live with and care for is a gigantic part of your life. Why then should gay people have to hide in the closet? Their love for their spouses is no less valid. Why are you so fragile that you can't handle knowing that a man really cares about another man? The more love there is in the world, the better the world.
