@chanfranc I have like 10 paragraphs above. Main points are 1) If Canada restricts students from China such students will go to the US - we already seen this with Australia and trade. 2) Meng case serves US interests at a cost of Canadian interests 3) World overall is less divided today into rich and poor then it ever was and the trend is accelerating - i.e. the difference between rich and poor countries is shrinking mostly due to technology & no longer dependence on limited resources.
1
@chanfranc Given that I briefly served to defend this country I consider myself quite loyal. The treaty US has with Canada could have been easily sidelined and Meng simply could have not be let into the country. The treaty is not a demand it is request based as well - i.e. we can refuse to give back anyone we feel like - through that would set us up for retaliation. Two Canadians are in China on bogus charges same as Meng - both are "stuck" for years in a "hole". Both cases are politically motivated 100% as this is admitted by both China and US. Our PM has no reservation to dip into law if it serves political purpose as clearly illustrated by him. None of this has to do with CCP. I so far did not see any student coming in from mainland China to make CCP popular or something - maybe these exist but must be ultra rare & I finished U of T so I would notice. Most Chinese students are afraid of their own shadow, does not matter they were born her or in China. I fail to see how China is our enemy - we are more in this mess b/c our "friend" US is using us as a shield to punish China. With friends such as US, who needs enemies? Also it does not matter trail is open or close or whatever, what matters is whatever verdict is based on laws that feel fair to all involved or not - you should notice that many political dissidents in Soviet Union had open trails, did not exactly make them fair, even if their length got greatly extended.
1
Given that US owns us and treats Canada as its ultimate influence sphere I fail to see what we can do. Any attempt to get out of this sphere will more or less end up like Russia - Ukraine, except US will not send tanks - but worse, bankrupt us. See how any warm feelings toward China ended?
1
@cyril9759 I am disgusted that people killed in fighting, bombing etc. are exhumed for propaganda purposes & making them part of a "show". Ukraine Kiev regime kills few civilians every day when they shell city centers - yet no one is burying and then re-discovering these people and showing their corpses exposing death from UA shelling. How would you feel if say your wife was killed and now for like 3rd or 4th time she is being moved around and your "leader" was making a show out of her? Legitimate war crimes of course should be exposed and prosecuted but not victims of shelling or other war incidents where one is not even sure whom killed them. There was a whole street filled with rotting bodies in Mariupol - well over 100 people killed in less then 1km, laying next to each other - why no outrage at their death? There was not even need to dig them up - they were exposed.

Her grandfather was a high ranking Nazi - she thinks she is member of superior race and they do not loose without fight to the very last one. Remember Germans? Same deal.
1
Same thing with Nazi sympathizers - it takes also a one little flick and youtube can turn them off. This was unprovoked attack on Poland that killed Polish citizens. Polish government may be in UA / US pocket but that does not mean all Poles are just going to pretend like its raining when someone spits on them.
1
By death rate to population AB is about 1/3 of Ontario i.e. we have in AB 1/3 of the deaths per million as ON.
1
Russia just rained 100+ missiles on Ukraine.
1
@viktorcheng2061 Through I dislike current PM (to put it mildly) his blackface was before he was a PM, we do know he smoked weed (like pretty much everyone else whom grown up in Canada) and there are pictures from partying. BUT allegations against her are far more serious - we are talking about dope / coke. Don't give JT any ideas ;)
1
@viktorcheng2061 He just wore stupid clothes pretending to be Indian. He likes to cross dress. There was no evidence of even heavy alcohol use on that trip - and its a big step from that to hard drugs.
1
@er6890 And you believe all that is said. Video also shows Ukrainian tanks at 1:00. What are they doing there exactly? This feels like a montage of different videos for effect. I am not even 100% convinced that the burning vehicles shown are Russian or Ukrainian, hard to see. Only at 0:15 you see a tank hit from the rear.
1
@er6890 OK, lets call time frame 1:00.5 you can see tank without any marks. Certainly not Russian. The front V is on T-72s. Its is certainly not T-80, they usually have rubber skirts on the turret. Look at time frame 0:31 all Russian tanks are in the same area. Now look at 0:59 and 1:00.5 - there are two tanks on the sides. One is at least 300m away from engagement and the other is at least 600m. Now hold the 1:00 frame, look at the tracks of tanks next to the courtyard. There are almost none - in the distance. Now go back to 0:25 lots of tank tracks as they are moving out. So time frame 1:00 is before time frame 0:25 and thus why there are tanks that are not there at 1:00.
1
@er6890 I am still a bit puzzled at no ID marks and the T-72 does not look like version Russia uses - I am not 100% sure, but I do not see K-5 ERA - I am talking about the one 600 m away. Without clear markings from above with clear Z it could be taken out by Russian air power. So it feels 100% Ukrainian. Also why would they do the montage upside down?
1
@Big BlackDawg Ottawa is over 900k with metro almost 1.5m. Its not small. 5th in Canada.
1
@ssshadowwolf6762 Umm, there was no concept of Ukraine 100 years ago. You were either Polish or Russian. Ukraine identity was created just before WWI - so there is no talk of anyone moving anywhere.
1
You do not understand the issue. US will provide rebate only to US made vehicles, not ones made in Canada. So no one will buy EV made in Canada & no one will produce it. I hope you do not expect Canadians to do "dumping" and pay 12500 USD for EV sold in ... the US? I.e. no one in Canada will subsidize US EVs. Giving say 12500 CAD in Canada will not resolve anything at all.
1
And so Canada's wealth is in the ground ... with no pipelines it is expensive to move it anywhere not to mention dangerous. At current pace by the time any pipeline is build we all be driving electric vehicles. Sense of urgency is not a strong side of JT. Same as getting vaccines on time.
1
A bit cruel.
1
Well, may I remind you that our PM went to one of his ministers to "end investigation" - fired her when she refused and got a new minister that had no issues of ending investigation. In China no official would say no to Xi - there is a difference. Tiny.
1
As the opposition, they are in jail.
1
@chrispbacon3084 Nope. Ukrainians. Isn't it true that multiple former leaders are either in house arrest, under threat of arrest or in prison? 'Well?
1
I have to point out that such move - money for US treasury is called nationalization which is basically what US - a supposedly capitalist nation have been fighting many wars against. This move questions sanity of investing in US as your capital can be nationalized at any moment. It would be wise to re-think US bound investments as these could be in danger of nationalization.
1
All terrorism is wrong. You can agree or disagree with journalists / military bloggers etc. But that does not give one right to kill them. They are civilians. Not to mention hurting or killing a lot of other innocent people in the process. Trying to justify this is same as justifying 9/11 by saying that some of these killed where somehow "involved". Everyone can justify anything if we go that route - every Russian, starting from a new born baby can be justified. Say no to terrorism - it is a route that does not lead to anything positive.
1
Common tactics by Nazi - been going on for weeks now. There are whole streets - I seen video by Patrick today, of Ukrainian civilians dead. And all happen to be in Ilych steel plant. Many women as well. Horrible video, no censorship, you see decomposed faces - looks like from Fallout video game.
1
What is key here is that you can visit the province - post Covid. I was there before Covid and the Chinese minister is right, other then rather extreme security measures, lots of police, control galore with more cameras then Uighurs and metal detectors all over the place there were no abuses seen by me. They were free to practice their religion - I seen the Mosque from the inside. Number of small kids suggests women, if sterilized, are not forced to before they have multiple children. Millions in camps do not explain rather extreme over population in cities. I also see that any Uighur that wishes to have a "job" is hired as "security" - feels like local "welfare" == job as security. Interesting are locals practicing with sticks and pipes self defense outside once a week per business.
1
Seems like small protests to be expected. Most Russians are either neutral or support the war, which they see as war of liberation against Ukraine. We see things like "was easy to shell kids and women, try Russian army".
1
The Donets attack was by Ukraine - a war crime - about 90% certain. This could be DPR, did not have to be given by Russia, some soldiers could have captured Ukrainian system and fired it back at Ukrainian city filled with ethnic Ukrainians fleeing. It would be a good idea to check ethnic makeup of victims. If say 80% Russian ---> probably false flag UA attack, if 80% UA ---> probably DPR attack.
1
System is rather old - they have basic version of S-300 a bit upgraded from Soviet times. AZ has much more modern version of S-300. I.e. AM has slightly upgraded system that is over 25 years old - not exactly cutting tech.
1
Even more do not trust the clown!
1
@rxonmymind8362 But family of 4 dead b/c of shelling was no where close to this incident! Also that family running was very close to armed Ukrainian soldiers also on video - thus the simply got cough in cross fire, not intentional attack on them.
1
If they were winning Russia would not be advancing daily.
1
To expensive - we cannot afford to do that.
1
@Ergot59 This is what Trump tried in US - which has far larger manufacturing base then Canada and was ... laughed at. Who is going to pay for all this? Educating 1m new factory workers? At what wage? Reverse economic growth? It would be easier to find a replacement for China, not just b/c China is "evil" but b/c they are getting way too rich to want to work in some sleezy factory. Chinese tire one cities look like blast from the future. Technology all over the place. Prices not so cheap - home in Beijing is far more expensive then in Vancouver (does explain things, does it?).
1
In Finland obviously yes.
1
Turkish supplied drone.
1
It does not matter now - emergencies act suspends our constitutional rights. I.e. we are in a state of war and government has more power then Putin in Russia.
1
@GhostOfDamned Check your local thrift store. Not sure about UK but in Canada, Calgary, you find some rather expensive stuff thrown away. Would not be shocked if they got your $1000 jacket for free from donation bin.
1
Putin never said a thing as far as when things will fall or not fall. It was western propaganda. Based on... thin air.
1
This old man does not even know where he is - and what a rope is. Should be gone this year - unless US wants to collapse. Him and VP need to go.
1
Mr. Z will fight to the last Ukrainian. Maybe if he was not a comic he could do stuff... but all he knows is tragedy. totally compromised by links to the Nazi. Just a figure, nothing more.
1
For the most part.
1
At least Palpatine created large emergency and large war. This guy wants same deal but with few trucks ;)
1
Well idea is simple, if we tax people very heavily they will be unable to spend on things such as meat or travel (car) or heat their homes - this way we reduce emissions. Imagine 50% carbon tax on everything - we would drop pollution so much overnight we may go negative. I mean pollution in poor countries of Africa is low - JT model - poor people do not pollute. I am not sure through poor people are happy people.
1
Well, as far as I remember, the whole base knew the first names of fee good looking women that were there. Like 1000+ men knew names of 10 women. So its not shocking that some "Stuff" occurred. The main problem here is lying about said "stuff". The evidence of some "Stuff" was rather hard to "hide".
1
Do as we say, not as we do. Biden apparently said that Putin needed his permission as only US has a God given right to create or abolish states.
1
Who, you pay? How about NO.
1
I am unsure why we are limiting international students - this is our main export! This is why we can exchange CAD to Nepali Rupees in Kathmandu with ease. Instead of limiting students - lets expand housing!
1
Well, given that within next few years China will be the number 1 world player and only moving up I see a victory of a hybrid system. Communism is on paper hands down the best system to govern - on paper. All sci-fi shows depict the utopian future as communism "made right". Problem is that making communism "right" is ... well... next to impossible in the next 50 years.
1
It was not a hospital, there is hardly any medical equipment & people directing fire live in the same city so I am sure they have some idea of target selection.
1
Not just any Ukrainian - her grandpa was high ranking Nazi.
