It was a Mestizo man called Frank del Olmo who years ago came up with this "Latino" term instead of "Latin American" to identify the "Ethnicity" of all the Spanish-speaking people of the Americas.The fact is that the term Latin/Latino already exist and has a 2000 year old meaning and cannot be given another meaning. What Frank del Olmo did was he cut the term Latin America" in half and made it "Latino" for abbreviation. No that's not acceptable. The Romans adopted the Latin language and the Latin culture of the Latins and as one people they engaged in the unification of all the groups living in Italy and as they assimilated one groups at a time they spread their Latin Language and Latin Culture. When the Latin European colonizers, French, Portuguese and Spaniards, came to the new world they imposed their Latin-derived languages, French, Portuguese and Spanish, Romans Laws and Christianity upon the indigenous population and called this area of the Americas "LATIN" America. Russell Richards Latin is not a race. It was the ethnicity of the first Latin people who lived in their own mini country, in the region called Latium (today Lazio) in Italy but they were Caucasians. These Latins were incorporated by the next door more powerful Romans and then in Italy we had 2000 years of ethnic mixing with the rest of the other groups living in Italy. Then if you consider the mixing that took place during the past 2000 years it's difficult to identify the first Latin genes. Therefore we consider as being Latins as a linguistic and cultural heritage and not ethnic because the languages that we speak come from their Latin language and our culture is the culture that we got from them. Then of course the Romans went out of Italy to colonize and they colonized most of Europe, Northern Africa and the Middle East and spread their Latin language, Latin Culture and Romans Laws.
