  1.  @garrywynne1218  The NIP is there to protect the GFA!! Why? Because the RoI is EU27 member state, while NI is a third country since Brexit. Those "third country rules" have been there since ages and are in charge for EVERY third country. The EU27 outside/hard border towards third countries is there to protect the EU27s SM. To avoid the hard/outside border of the EU on the Island of Ireland the NIP was implemented, again: to keep peace on the Island of Ireland and avoiding the "troubles" starting again. It'll be the pillar of a defense alliance to protect the European Continent, considering the recent situation with Putler and the Orange man might come back again.. German planes surveillance aircraft P-8 Poseidons will operate from RAF Lossiemouth to help to protect the north Atlantic... Rheinmetall will build another production plant in UK.. NATO is a defense alliance only, and article 5 /NATO alliance case has been triggered once only since its existence = after 9/11 EVERY country can join NATO, if it's fulfilling the needed criteria... This year has been a raise by about 300% more refugees coming into the EU, when about 120 boats are arriving on one day, like recently at Lampedusa, it always takes a while, until it's "sorted". You rather make sure, that your country and its infrastructure doesn't "crumble" completely, like those raac buildings, potholes in the roads, disappearing NHS into a private health system US style, food banks for hospital staff at hospitals, etc... But in the end joining Schengen and adapting the Euro is a mandatory for New EU members as soon as they fulfill the "convergence criteria" ... Edit typo/ autocorrect

  28.  @sydnorth5868  I can see your point, on the other hand, there are the Scandinavian neighbours as a "short cut" towards EU "mainland", there is the North-to-South train connection (Norway-Italy), which would be a perfect trading route. Ok, the daily "crossing the border various times to England" would be different, because of the hard border check ups. But when the Scottish people really want to be independent and being in the EU, which has been their largest trading partner when being an EU member and has collapsed now due to Brexit, then I really don't see a "selfharming" problem with that. Of course I know, that getting in your car and drive off is faster then taking a ferry etc, but all of that doesn't help, when the economy is shrinking to a "shade" of itself, then all motorways in the world won't help. It's a terrible situation the country is in, the UK/GB slapped all doors, without keeping an exit out of this room available, a real tragic failiure at the cost of its people.   34.  @verystripeyzebra  In fact most of them had stayed in an EU country trying to get "refugee/ asylum status", and got the status "tolerated" with a deadline to leave the EU back to their home country. When the deadline to leave is coming up, they tend to try to get over to Britain, knowing, that pushbacks towards the EU aren't possible anymore, since Britain is a third country. Unfortunately you misunderstood that, I wrote that the refugees who come via the channel had in most cases already applied for asylum in various EU countries and were rejected, some have also received a temporary toleration status. When that expires and deportation is imminent, they then try it in GB because they know that GB is now a third country and can no longer make pushbacks to the EU.
