Could any other outcome have been possible?

It's a cool design.

I know this was sort of a side point, but the effect on the oil life is what I was most curious about. ...I wonder if wrapping the intake side with coolant lines (from a second radiator) would have a more (or less) significant amount of cooling for the engine intake temperature, compared to an intercooler. (I have doubts because the turbine itself would likely be unaffected and retain just as much heat).

Whytape over a ford logo? We all know it's a ford logo.

Wouldn't closing the valve early create vacuum pressure within the cylinder, where any saved effort in the compression stroke would be cancelled out during the intake stroke? (...unless it has forced induction) Although, you would still have less air, and so, could use less fuel. Still the atkinson cycle seems better. As an aside, I thought atkinson cycle engines have a strange crank mechanism.

Smart deficiencies vs Mazda -reliability -grip -propensity to roll (sideways) -appearance -performance -weight distribution -suspension

I don't know what it's like where you live, but where I live All-seasons are typically and hardly anyone has summer tires.

That corporate average is insanely misleading (as a general measure of technology). Look at their engine capacities and layouts. There are no Mazda v8s, they had few v6s before that and none since 2013. Then factor in the number of different engines they actually produce (it's 2, 3 if you include the one turbo option) makes it easier to stay low compared to competitors. Lets say Nissan, their engines have worse fuel economy accross the board, but they still make a variety of engines for a variety of functions, having that wide product offering inherently raises their average fuel economy even if their fuel economy were the best in each segment.

@thicknick734 it's mostly the electrics you should be concerned over... and replacing with OEM is just going to lead to the same problems.

I feel like I read this study

We should fit it to every engine.

I will say it again, I don't want one pedal regen... ever.

Based on looks, I would go for the BMW. I like that it slides like it's warm butter on a plate.

Did you mean kW at 1:15? because those arrows do not line up with any stated figures
