@southtexasprepper1837 You're wrong about some important claims. The ethnic Russian majority has been in places like Donetsk for a couple of hundred years at least. Nothing to do with Stalin. Secondly you seem to believe the Holodomor is something the Russians inflict on the Ukrainians. No, the Russians were affected as well. This is something the communists did and at that time, the communists were not overwhelmingly even ethnic Russian. Early on, Jewish people were heavily overrepresented, also Georgians and other minority groups. You're missing my point about a Chinese coup in China. Yes you admit the USA would invade right away. Which is what Russia did in Crimea when the US staged a coup in Ukraine. So you see how you're criticising Russia for doing something you admit the US would do too in similar circumstances? Lastly international recognition. This is entirely political. Most of the world doesn't recognise Kosovo as an independent country after the US attacked Serbia and seized this territory off Serbia. Doesn't stop the USA from recognising it.
2
No matter what new facts come out, Peter always has some arguments to get back to the US doing great, China heading for disaster narrative.
2
Don'#t worry he's wrong about almost everything
2
@wintermute- LOL an American accusing the China of being a dying empire! Don't you see the irony? If not then you really need to widen your sources.
2
@ClownCarCoup LOL that's true on its own but the point of the oil price cap was explicitly NOT less of the product. It was to minimise Russian revenue but without impacting the volume magnitude exports. No, it's charisma my dump stat :)
2
danjohnston9037 LOL it's undiluted propaganda. For example claiming Mariupol can only be supplied by road - er no there's a railway there now and onwards up to the front. And he didn't mention Avdivka which is likely to fall in the next couple of months, that's pretty huge.
2
Russia's economy is growing pretty quickly, you might want to check your sources
2
So nothing to do with the Ukrainian government using the ethnic Hungarians as cannon fodder then?
2
Nah he's not a fool, more like a tool - making very good money spreading this propaganda
2
The Finns should ask Ukraine how getting Crimea back is working out for them.
2
Only feasible when the Russian front was chronically undermanned, and sporadically fortified, before mobilisation.
2
Yeah Zeihan doesn't seem to know what he's talking about. He's wrong about the population being older and unhealthy too. There are pockets of severe health problems but that's not typical of the whole country. The age structure is typical for the EU. Scotland is an energy exporter and that won't change any time soon. Huge wind farms, fisheries, North Sea oil will be around for decades yet. Cheap housing and pay similar to England outside London.
2
Yes the demographic problem in Ireland is a complete catastrophe, per capita is seems to be about the worst in Europe.
2
@FutureCommentary1 No, there is really high immigration from Africa. For a long time, if someone from Africa arrived in Ireland and had a baby, the baby would automatically get Irish citizenship then the mother and other family members could stay. An utterly moronic policy which meant that even ten years ago, a quarter of the babies being born in Ireland were African.
2
@Withnail1969 Correct that S300s are not designed for ground targets but they can be used as ground to ground missiles and Russia used some in that way because they're obsolete and not required for air defence. You are right that some of the S300 hits in Ukraine (and Poland!) are from Ukrainian missiles failing to work as intended.
2
@Withnail1969 Lots of documented cases of them used to hit ground targets, what evidence do you have that they can not?
2
@w8stral Scotland obesity around 30% Mississippi obesity around 40%. USA around 36%. But now compare to what Zeihan actually says about Scotland. If you didn't check the numbers, you'd have the impression that Scotland is worse off than just about anywhere right? BTW I wasn't meaning to suggest Mississippi is especially bad, just using that as an example of one I knew about without having to check.
2
@hrogarfyrninga3238 Don't you think that's relevant information for context for his mainly American audience? He's basically saying people in Scotland are fat - but leaving out the hugely important context that relative to the population his audience comes from, people in Scotland are thin.
2
@Whaleydavey If you followed the entire thread you'll know that obesity in Scotland is lower than in the USA OVERALL. A lot lower.
2
There's a lot more going on than what Zeihan tells you. In Netherlands and Ireland, the governments are actually trying to seize land. It's not so much about subsidies as restrictions which make farming uneconomic or outright illegal.
2
They're not - look them up. Zeihan didn't bother fact checking the basics. Also about energy - Scotland is a huge energy exporter.
2
@rameshpudhucode6862 Yes he said it bit it's a lie. Even the US president admitted the US is in Syria for the oil.
2
They don't, it's Zeihan's explanation to distract from the real reason for the Ukraine war - relentless NATO expansion eastwards despite promises made to Russia at the time of German reunification that this would not happen. You'll notice that although he keeps repeating this claim over and over in any video where he mentions Russia, he has never provided a single shred of evidence.
2
@jimluebke3869 Either side could have used divers to set charges. All we know for sure is before the Russians pulled back across the river, Ukraine was targeting the dam with missiles.
2
@dannydxm Like with many other topics, he just makes stuff up. Earlier on he said Scotland has the oldest population in Europe, something easy to check which you can see is false after a few minutes checking sources. As for the outright propaganda he comes up with on Ukraine...
2
@kitsuneneko2567 Spoken like a true problem gambler. I keep winning so double or nothing. If you had the brains to understand game theory it should be obvious to you the Russians will retaliate against anything that truly hurts them. Luckily they're confident they're going to win an acceptable cost regardless of these US weapons.
2
@kitsuneneko2567 It takes a special level of stupidity to think you can keep escalating and the other side won't retaliate. Congrations you're special.
2
Zeihan's calls on this incident so far have been embarrassing.
2
What does he care? It doesn't bother him how many Ukrainians die just so long as the US gets a minor geostrategic advantage from their deaths.
2
I'm now waiting for Peter Zeihan to call the US security system incompetent because the Russians warned about the Boston marathon attack before it happened and FBI failed to stop it. But he's not going to do that because regardless of the facts, he spins every fact as US great, Russia/China bad. And his fan boys love it.
2
@grimnir8872 12 December 2005 Independent article "By the mid 1970s, international convention had already agreed that the North Sea north of the 55th parallel was under Scottish jurisdiction. That meant around 90 per cent of the UK's oil and gas reserves fell within Scottish waters"
2
Why would Russia be desperate? They're winning the war. Look up the average age of Ukrainian soldiers, it's up to ten years older than their Russian counter parts now. What do you think happened to the younger soldiers?
2
@YaroslavGovorunov Russian nuclear weapons are more modern than US weapons on average. US nuclear modernisation hasn't been prioritised after decades of fighting third world insurgent forces.
2
@ Edward Dutton has written several books on this. Also J. Winter. It's usual that after a major war the birth rate increases. Happened with both world wars. Probably will happen with the Ukraine war too. A lot of those Russian guys will go home get married and have plenty of money for a house.
2
@michaelbrown7142 Who the hell is Adrian?
2
People they "captured" in Ukraine? You mean the ethnic Russians who rebelled against the post Maidan government long before Russia got involved at all?
2
Zeihan's track record on predictions is pretty dire too.
2
Sure, you also believe the Nordstream pipeline blew up itself right?
2
It's not objective, it's based on incorrect claims. Go fact check Scottish demographics, health and energy. Scotland is a huge energy exporter and demographics is way better than most of Eastern Europe. It's only slightly older than England and England is younger only because of mass immigration from high birth rate parts of the world like Africa.
2
Don't worry it doesn't actually work in America either. Accuracy and facts are not his strong points.
2
@davidanon1568 He never had credibility he's always been a neocon propagandist. He's from Stratfor
2
Also, the drones are directed by US air assets. If the Russians were allowed to target them the drones would have to rely entirely on their own autonomous AI.
2
@benhardsatrio8222 And you seriously think a carrier is safe from Iskanders and Kinzhals?
2
@SignalCorps1 Before, back before the 60s France contained almost all of West Africa. But France's heavy involvement in the region up until the year 2023 is about uranium.
2
Utter BS just look at the numbers of people killed
2
Yeah hard to believe but it must be true because Zeihan said so without any evidence :P
2
@David-jt9nt LOL guy who spells Tsar as Zar fancies himself an expert on Russian history
2
@David-jt9nt LOL Dude who fancies himself an expert on Russia but spells Tsar as Zar now claims to be sleep texting.
2
Russian air defence is cutting edge though Zeihan will never admit it.
2
I made a few quid on Trump winning so thanks!!
