If everything is for sale California is definitely on the table, Australia, Canada and New Zealand are definitely in the running to make bids for a merger and many Californians would actually be ok with it if there's no force applied and it's voluntary.

He's never going to be a government official, he's a volunteer advisor to Trump that's all.
1
It appears to be a cost cutting measure and to promote misinformation for profit. This very medium I am on now YouTube/Google runs majority of advertisements for outright scams, mostly get rich quick schemes and snake oil type products.
1
The lady was correct regarding Biden keeping tariffs. Adam you should have actually responded if Biden cut those tariffs on Chinese goods it would have lowered many prices on particular goods only coming from China.
1
I feel safe in Thailand and will feel safe when i return to Australia with most likely a Philippino pilot because i am flying Philippine airlines. If i had the money i would short Tesla, if China decides they don't like Tesla any more the company is screwed , it was the only major market second to USA for sales, that had increased sales last year. China sees Elon as a strategic asset.

I am curious what travel ban means. Is he banning travel in both directions? Or does he mean no new visas for Columbians. Whatever the case is it's only going to make it harder to deport people to there. Retaliation can be to ban US citizens without relatives in Columbia from travelling to Columbia, then the US would need to use foreign contracters to deport people to Columbia. Another way could be to require Columbian work visas for the staff involved in deporting people to Columbia because technically they work in Columbia and aren't aircrew who are obviously exempt.

It's not really an ownership issue regarding bytedance as it's 60% ownership is outside of China. The issue is it's close relationship with the Communist Party of China. X is arguably a higher risk to the US as it deliberately peddles outright misinformation. Bytedance is only a risk in the case of a conflict and if a conflict was to occur then that's the time to ban it. Removing an app from a phone or computer is pretty easy to do. Truth is if you own a smartphone and it's turned on Google or Apple are constantly tracking you. If there's a data breach by a government or telephone company then anyone can be tracked because all that's needed to track someone is their smart phone number and use spyware. Everyone has to make a choice live in the modern world or live in fear. This especially applies to anyone not in the US or China where the vast majority of apps etc. come from. As an Australian if Google misuses my information there's nothing I can do about it. We also get 0 protection against being spied upon by the US.
1
I think so. Have to remember he did the same thing in his first term against mostly China. He's also indicated he's an isolationist since the 80s. Donald is delusional and believes in what he is doing.

As the departments tell treasury who to pay the only possible way someone could commit fraud at the payment system is to somehow fake being a government department. This should be impossible. To give an example someone at Veteran Affairs will review the paperwork to decide if someone is illegible for a payment, the payment system operators don't check if the paperwork is fraudulent, it's not their job.

Things are not as simple as Trump thinks. Trump's actions if followed through will increase the use of RMB. The main reason stated that countries won't use RMB except with direct transactions is because it's a dictatorship that can't be trusted and lower liquidity levels. China uses RMB for 40% of it's international trade. No country to country trade not including China occurs with RMB. The Reserve Bank of Australia has 55% in USD 20% in EUR and 5% in RMB plus a few other countries at 5%. If Trump starts does what he says he will do the level of trust difference between US and China will decrease leading to for example more trades with China using RMB instead of USD. Is Trump going to threaten Australia for using RMB with some of it's direct trade?
1
One less market for US Soybeans , refined petroleum products and corn being the 3 largest exports to Columbia. When the tariffs kick in in the other countries Trump aims to attack with tariffs the broad acre farmers will have a dramatically reduced international market.
1
Actually the internet probably does have something to do with increases of cases in the US. Conspiracy theories spread more effectively with the internet leading to lower vaccination rates.
1
Better off ignoring him. Responding is what Trump wants.
1
Not American but a permanent bar on an elected official for fully protected speech, (in a parliament you can say anything without the fear of any repercussions other than at the ballot box), is fully authoritarian. I am making an assumption of a free society but clearly it isn't, 2 wrongs don't make a right. His behaviour was wrong and a permanent bar from being in the parliament regardless of what it's referred to there is wrong.
1
He found most of his cabinet in the swamp, now the swamp is looking better.
1
You are correct it's only the elected Republican party representatives that can do something.
1
It's also led to large amounts of misinformation. So it was actually better before with less partisan news papers with real journalists.
1
You can't say that, Trump certainly calls the shots. It can be said however he can be easily manipulated by some.
1
That's a new one for me, cancelling contracts that have already ceased to be in effect. Another effect people probably haven't realised yet but banks will treat government employment and contractors the same way they treat casual workers with no job security, it's probably already harder for a government employee to get a home loan.
1
So what is your point? To have any relevance about the costs of illegal immigrants you need to also find out how much tax they paid including taxes for social security which subsidises others as they can never make a claim.
1
Americans are I am sorry a bit insane. I am not being taxed I choose to pay 10 times market rates for medicines. Ok Americans you be happy with your low tax rates.
1
@remcogreve7982 Well yes and no, you wanted him and he denounced his Australian citizenship as was required at the time for significant media ownership in the US. But your comment did give me a bit of a chuckle.
1
Almost nobody is going to bring a billion to invest in a tanking North American economy with Trump tariffs. Plenty of stable countries in the world with free trade agreements not protectionism.
1
Careful what you wish for. Blue MAGA is no good either. Need critical voices in the middle doing journalism not propagandists on both sides trying to and effectively doing so brainwashing people creating truly bad governance. People literally shut down free thought once they're brainwashed. A good example is many US citizens but particularly on the right believe having a loaded gun in their pocket can stop a bullet travelling approximately 1000 m/s from a distance of up to half a mile for a good marksman. My example is an example of brainwashed people thinking carrying a gun gives you supernatural powers, can see everywhere and can move faster than a speeding bullet.
1
Disagree with you Adam, Trump will put tariffs on Canada and Mexico, the only question is will it cover all goods and at what rate. My bet is on 25% on everything and some backtracking and subsidies as he did previously. If you don't believe Trump is crazy and it's only bluster as you put it you are just as crazy.
1
This is what is expected from a low income corrupt country. The US is the only rich developing nation, unfortunately it's currently developing backwards except for of course contracts with Elons companies.
1
@toroverde9329 that's interesting, maybe that's why beef sales from my country Australia are surging in the US. A little to my surprise the US is now actually our largest export market by weight.
1
It's actually a good policy to stop farm subsidies, they are a drain on the US government finances and basically achieve nothing. Australia and New Zealand for example have extremely low subsidies mostly through government funded research, no cash handouts other than possibly disaster relief which would go to everyone. The US is currently Australia's largest market for beef by weight. How is it that it's come to this , the subsidised market isn't very competitive against a free market. Well part of it is likely that as all socialism does control or influence the means of production , US farmers are growing low value broad acre crops displacing other agricultural activities so they can get a guaranteed small return with the subsidies. I might be incorrect about the exact reason but it is a likely reason. Having said that ending subsidies should be done over time in a carefully considered manner, not just dropped basically making the government out to be untrustworthy and yes possibly causing a lot more pain than gradual consolidation of the industry where as most people know it's often a matter of get big or get out.
1
For those who don't realise The Heritage Foundation was the biggest public policy think tank in favour of free trade and removal of subsidies. Since MAGA seems to have taken over that organisation they seem silent now.
1
Adam don't say $200 billion when it's estimated to be around $120 billion with most of that in weapons. They have wired some money basically to help pay government workers wages in Ukraine, not exactly easy to collect taxes in wartime. Totally agree China is threatening particularly to Taiwan and Philippines.
1
Not exactly, the plan was split Ukraine into 2 with Russia keeping some and the US getting the rest as a colony that hands over money to the US indefinitely keeping them impoverished.
1
Adam if your report regarding understaffing for air traffic controllers is correct and Trump wants even less of them it's insanity because with all the overtime payment it will cost more or alternatively understaffing will create safety issues. Even lots of overtime creates safety issues by itself.
1
The US is currently a member of the Axis of Evil, get over it or change it.
1
Not true, it's only Republicans are more vocal about for example subsidies for pharmaceuticals. No other country on the planet deliberately pays above market rates for medicines.
1
This is North Korean stuff going on.
1
If a state governor or legislature declares martial law many things can then become lawful orders. Maybe some red states might do that. It's not really clear that the president can or can't declare martial law as it hasn't really been tested in court.
1
I think they are right, however even if Trump isn't going to be vindictive he's still going to follow through with certain policies like tariffs that will hurt many industries. In some cases they seem to be lobbying Trump so their personal business is less affected.
1
Sorry people did vote for Elon, it wasn't a secret he would be the chainsaw cutting $2 trillion.
1
Please don't use the term conservative when referring to radicals like the J6 insurrectionists. Although I am not American I am definitely a fiscal conservative, I have nothing in common with MAGA who happen to be socialists promoting protectionism and subsidies. If you do use the term conservative put an adjective before it, a fiscal conservative has nothing in common with a religious conservative unless they are both.
1
Elon can be crazy and a liar deliberately and very good at business and lucky. None of these are mutually exclusive and i think he is all of them. He's killed twitter and is now attempting to kill Tesla. Despite Tesla's ridiculous share price it's brand is losing value for various reasons, it's already dropped to second place for electric vehicles sold and isn't competitive on price , it's only competitive as an expensive sports vehicle. Also as other vehicle manufacturers catch up and or overtake Tesla there's no way Tesla can maintain up to 20% profit margins when competition heats up (except maybe in the US due to effectively banning competition through tariffs).
1
Sorry to break it to you but they are literally the second worst major political party of a wealthy country, the worst of course is Trump's Republican party. You don't get to be at the bottom on key measures like life expectancy or homicide rate without strong bipartisan failures. The Democrats believe in subsidies for big pharma and Obama care is clearly not worth the paper it's printed on if United Healthcare an insurance company not a medical provider can just refuse to pay for treatment about 1 third of the time. Wake up to yourself and admit Democrats are almost as bad as Republicans. Admit for a wealthy country you are literally the worst on many key measures.
1
In the US journalists are very soft even on the non biased networks. In Australia I noticed compared to the US journalists will attack politicians regardless of side they are on. Exception is Sky News Australia which is a Murdoch run outlet and as bad as and sometimes worse than Fox News.
1
The Trump regime will collapse in support but it's unlikely to collapse in reality. What people tend to do under such circumstances dig in because as the cards start falling and they become aware they will lose their next election on a personal congress person level, they now have nothing to lose. People like Marco Rubio who I suspects knew even before he got his secretary position that after his term is up he's destroyed politically just took the job so he can say he was a US secretary/minister. When you are dealing with such people who are metaphorical kamikaze, you can't beat them until the next election which might not occur on time due to martial law.
1
While i think it's terrible at least he has followed through with a promise. If or when he follows through with Trump tariffs it's going to hit low and medium income Americans and they literally voted for it.
1
As they say easy come and easy go. Tesla has a reasonable value of about 10% of its market price. Over time the market will always move towards intrinsic value. What's amazing is after a ~50% decline in European sales Tesla price hasn't collapsed already. Tesla isn't going to make a comeback.
1
Unfortunately the far right in Israel love this. Many Israeli's are just as bad. Have to remember racial supremacists like other racial supremacists as long as they are elsewhere in the world.
1
Lots of comments about US social security. It certainly is an entitlement where on average you get more money than you paid in plus interest earned. The fund is due to collapse to $0 in 2035 according to those public servants operating that fund.
1
This might be an unpopular comment here but black Americans are more violent than their white counterparts. That being the case one has to ask why is it that an African country like Kenya is safer than the US based on homicide rates. Clearly it isn't a race thing because 99% of Kenyans are black African. There's something wrong with the US. The US is still controlled by white people, so whatever the problem is it's caused by white US people.
1
Kash saying there's approval is pretty scary. He might say that Mexico has approved something. If something hasn't been approved in another country it's an invasion which obviously puts people in both countries at risk.
1
Well he actually is. So on this occasion his thoughts are correct.
