  1. They need to change the system of government. Meaning they need to change the constitution. There's no hope in the short to medium term of the US turning around. The US is basically a right wing socialist country. Basically the opposite of Reagan up to Bush on trade policies.

  2. It's possible for unemployment rate to move in the opposite direction to the amount of employment occurring. If someone works 1 hour a week they are considered employed for statistics also participation rates change, if you aren't looking for work you aren't considered unemployed.

  5. @sandraeastern9720  without looking it up I think the largest foreign holders of US bonds are China and Japan. Most reserve banks around the world hold some but nowhere near the extent of those 2 countries holdings.

  7. Some people are excellent salesmen , Trump is certainly one of them. In his personal business career he can lose $1 Billion and just start another business by asking for money of investors and banks and they give it to him. This method tends to guarantee success in the long run because the number of failures don't matter. He may very well win the presidential election again, voters are not so different to investors. Even if he loses there will be 40% of the population who still love him.

  8. It's only a matter of time when eggs are discovered being smuggled from Mexico. I saw a clip of someone in a Mexican supermarket where eggs were retailing for less than $2 USD per dozen. A semi full of smuggled eggs being wholesaled at $6 per dozen would be worth it for criminals.

  13. The vast majority of MAGA are social Democrats also. Trump says he won't touch handouts. The problem is MAGA believe any things he says. They somehow believe taxing imported products will lead to lower prices of those goods because they will be made in the US. An average 5 year can work out that doesn't make sense when you explain to them what a consumer tax is. MAGA people somehow just believe because Trump told them too.

  18. Trump and Xi are extremely similar. They are both far right. Xi ironically is a bit less socialist and believes in free markets slighty more but not too much. Far right are National Socialist, that is they want to create a strong powerful country through oligarchs but don't care about the citizens or freedom. A lot of the political spectrum is circular, far right and far left are both Socialist but with different objectives, far right and far left believe in nationalism and racial or religious superiority. Far right and far left both believe in dictatorship. Far right and far left both hate free trade and believe in protectionism. I am a moderate libertarian meaning centre right on economic issues and centre left on social issues. I believe in free trade on everything except labour and equal rights for LGBTQ but not having transgender in competitive sports. I believe in a controlled border. Basically i am a typical Australian who thinks we are doing ok, one area we aren't doing ok is cost of housing and if statistics are accurate while the median wealth of an Australian adult is something like double that of the US we have a higher homeless rate. 2 things are most likely responsible for this, massive immigration as a percentage of our population and town planning restricting more housing.

  19. Actually I think you mean trade sanctions. The last one being beef has now been lifted. Aussie producers will be looking to phase out exports to the US in anticipation of tariffs. The US exported high value beef and imported low value beef. Different producers inside the US will be affected differently. The low cost producers will see domestic prices increase whereas the high value exports mostly to East Asia will dry up in favour of countries like Australia and New Zealand and to some extent South American countries (they won't be able to achieve as high prices)

You think the Chinese government for example isn't going to tell people to boycott tesla when the tariffs hit.   30. Well according to Trump a 15% corporate tax rate is fair. Do you think that's fair? Have to remember what is considered fair is subjective. The majority of middle and low income people in the US believe a 15% corporate tax rate is fair because they voted for it.

  32. It's not that simple, Singapore has a very large government debt. Singapore's net government debt probably isn't too bad. Australia has a sovereign wealth fund and it was actually set up when believe it or not our government had 0 net debt.

  43. Subsidies aren't the answer, the US already provides plenty of subsidies mostly for things like corn, wheat and soy much of which is exported. So basically the US wants to subsidise foreign consumers by selling products for export at a loss. No David MAGA are outright socialists, they only believe in free markets and no subsidies for Democrat voters, it's that simple.

  44. MAGA definitely believes the 2020 election was stolen. Currently they believe putting taxes on imported goods will cause the US to make them inside the US at lower prices. Electronic goods for example are typically made in countries with a minimum wage around $15 USD per day, so they probably get a little more for a gruelling factory job. First of all who exactly wants a boring tedious job and secondly who wants to work for $3 per hour to keep costs as low as overseas? But hey the members of the cult haven't actually bothered to even think, they just believe.

  46. I have a different take on it. Trump won't cut welfare, more likely it gets increased. What Trump is more likely to achieve is sky-rocketing government debt and lower taxes for corporations and higher taxes through tariffs for low and middle income people.

  49. Sales are holding up in China, however Tesla has lost a little bit of market share of EVs in China. Their market for EVs is growing extremely quickly. China will overtake the US economically eventually. While I don't like the authoritarian nature of the country, they are getting some things right. Big modern factories will outcompete often old legacy factories found in the US regardless of wages.
