I'll take a YUKON XL with the big V8 please

Good review, Alex. Love that you take the time to review the low priced products. Personally, I would cross-shop the Kia Soul "S" with the Versa automatic. And perhaps a base Subaru Impreza hatchback. And maybe the new Chevy Trax. Or possibly a year old CPO Mazda 3.

I am truly flummoxed as to why so many auto journalists bash on Mazda about the lack of an IRS and an "ancient" six speed automatic. The vast majority of buyers dont drive at 9/10s or even 6/10s. We sit in traffic on I-5 instead. Quiet, comfortable, and easy to operate is paramount. Admittedly, Mazda is stubbornly sticking to the screen control know, which is ridiculous in 2023 to most buyers. But again, Mazda feels that the driver should be focused on driving... even while sitting in bumper to bumper gridlock on the freeway. Maddening, I know. ๐ฎ

Alex, with the stop-sale order on the Bolt, I'm expecting that 1) Chevy will replace this generation of the Bolt with a all-new Ultium battery platform version within the next two years, and it WONT be named the Bolt since that name is now know for FIRES. Resale value of Bolts will likely crater, even if LGChem manages to figure out its cell-pack manufacturing snafus. I know that buyers who have advanced ordered 2022 Bolts have elected to cancel their orders, looking at other options including the Tesla.

Great reviww as always, Alex! Thinking that the Elantra N might be the more "mature", less boy-racer choice. The lower level Veloster models, has been discontinue for the US market, with only the Veloster N remaining for sale. Of course, the Kona N is another option.
8
Alex, no invitation from Cadillac? Tisk, tisk Cadillac!! The OLED Panel is impressive, but i wonder about screen burn-in..... the two-way microphone system is great for Uber XL and livery service drivers. "Do you have a preferred route to the airport, sir?"
8
Very station wagon ish in terms of proportions.
8
Definitely the Camry, based on efficiency, resale values, and overall reliability. ๐ Also, the ocean gem paint color on the Toyota is gorgeous.
8
The only way I'd buy this gigantic size of vehicle is to tow something REALLY heavy. I'm a fan of the diesel powered Tahoe and Suburban. The Expy definitely needs to be updated, it's looking old.
8
REALLY needs a HUD and stalks. Otherwise it's awesome. ๐
7
At $84k, automatic emergency braking and radar cruise control (blind spot warning too) should be standard equipment. And couldn't they include the mud mats for the floor? Otherwise, I love the look, the gorgeous green paint, and the off-road capabilities of this vehicle. Living in rural Virginia, this would be awesome for romping down forest service roads and deep woods trails. ๐ชต Congratulations on your new toy! ๐
7
The Z is much more attractive
7
Chrysler needs a version of the Coupe called the Cordoba - with a plush interior of rich Corinthian leather.... and an AI version of Ricardo Montebon....
7
โย @mrtriathlondudeย of course you're correct. But MAGA won't listen to facts. ๐
7
Mazda 3S 2.5L - $25495 MSRP with all weather floor mat pkg and 191 HP with 6 speed automatic (not CVT). DEFINITELY worth the extra money ๐
7
Noticed that too. Poor interior build quality and way, way too much crappy black plastic for the price ๐ข
6
Nope, ultra-plasticky interior and only 2 mpg better combined than the Silverado??? Not very compelling whatsoever. I'll wait for the new-gen Ranger or even take the FX4 4WD EcoBoost Maverick.
6
That horrendously unreliable JATCO CVT is Nissan's biggest problem. All Nissan's have catastrophic resale values due to it.
6
The swaths of cheap looking unpainted cladding ruins the appearance of this vehicle ๐ข
6
That Alfa is sooooo sexy. Reliability be damned ๐ฎ๐
6
Most definitely going with the CT4 blackwing over the Benz or Audi. Especially in that sexy red paint. ๐
6
Santa Fe hybrid is definitely my pick
6
Too big, no magic seat, given the price, I'd prefer the Corolla Cross hybrid in Cypress Green
6
RAV4 hybrid please. Going for the reliability and resale value.
6
I'd actually move up to a Mazda 6 for only a small amount of cash. I have no need for all wheel drive in the desert. Definitely prefer the sedan over the VERY bulbous, very Alfa-Romeo looking hatch. It's kinda pricey, but the interior is classy.
6
Stunning and I love that yellow interior. Im certain Cadillac will build it ๐
6
Nicely done Nick. I'd take an Avenir to escape the black plastic trim.
5
Hummer press embargo is over. Everyone has a Hummer video uploaded
5
This is automotive equivalent of a Mob consigliere. The capo might have a S-class, but the Genesis does ALL of the intimidation. Wheels are actually intricate and beautiful. The diamond pattern repeats in the grille, wheels, and interior.....
5
Get an EXTENDED warranty is my advice, and look for cheap lease deals ๐
5
Segment size comparison is wrong. Graphics shows full size SUVs , not compact sedans. ๐ฎ
5
About $4000 less than the RAV4.... which is about the cost of the replacement for the horrendously unreliable JATCO/NISSAN CVT transmission. Resale value on the Rogue is abysmal too..... and that ugly chrome grille
5
Im getting really bored with the quilted interior upholstery. Its overdone, just like those black painted wheels and piano black interior panels. ๐ฅฑ ๐ซ ๐ฆ
5
Buy great snow โ๏ธ tires, and forget about the AWD. The interior looks nice, but I wonder how much abuse the plastics and panels will handle. Fuel โฝ๏ธ economy sounds good...
5
Such a beautiful elegant machine, but I think that the G90 V8 wins. The Genesis is just so frigging imposing, especially when painted black or that deep ocean blue.
5
Finally, a truly fast 30K crossover. I like the styling, especially the rear
5
I'll go for the Chevy Trax RS
5
The ES should be a lift back. Easier for its buyers to put their walkers and canes inside the car.
5
Definitely the elegant, imposing G80
5
Hey Young, Hip, and Urban!! Excellent overview! I'll personally wait for the hybrid version in the cypress green with the Two-tone interior. Is the slow-selling C-HR going to be canceled and replaced in the Toyota lineup by this CorCross??
5
The 1.2L turbo triple is going to be one hard working & stressed-out engine. The 6 speed automatic is much better than a CVT. The 1.2L is going to need fanatical fluid maintenance. 3k oil and filters changes, yearly coolant flush and fills.... and absolutely no off-brand gasoline, good detergent gas ONLY. This should give it the best chances for 100k+ miles survival ๐ฎ
5
Mazda
5
Looking forward to the Pickup version! โค Love the vintage airliner look of the interior controls ๐
5
Hey, Nick!! Welcome to AoA/ABG
5
A 3 cylinder engine mated to a JATCO CVT??? ๐ ๐ฎ๐ข
5
Alex, I'd prefer the European Corolla wagon. The Golf wagon is about the only other small wagon left. We had a Focus Wagon in the 00s which was great. I'm not sure about the styling of the Mazda3 hatchback... looks vaguely Alfa-Romeo-ish??
5
Travis, excellent review! Very informative and conversational, thanks. I want my Highland in blue with the white interior - and dual motor ๐
5
Needs a V8 engine to differentiate itself. For $112k, I'm taking the much more stylish Escalade. This looks like a Mitsubishi Outlander that's bloated on steroids.
5
The Traverse is very attractive, especially in RS trim. But it's not a Tahoe. And for $58k, I'm definitely buying a Tahoe.
5
Excellent overview as usual, Alex. Love this Volvo, no gimmicky stuff, just an intelligent useful design. Now to come up with $80 grand!
