  1. The French should remember how the Russians dismembered Napoleon's Grand Armee in 1812. And how Stalin refused de Gaulle a position in the Potsdam conference to decide Germany's future and Europe's map - Stalin asked what contribution France made to defeat Nazi Germany. Only the Soviet Union, US and UK attended Potsdam. More recently, the French should recall how France was forced out of Mali, Burkina and Niger by Russian help. Ukraine is defeated and after the defeat, it is too late for France and Europe to send troops to Ukraine to reverse the situation.

  3. Ukraine cannot concentrate all its troops into the south and force a breakthrough. The US is asking the Ukranians to walk through minefields without air support, which would mean they would be massacred - without achieving a breakthrough. They did that at the start and lost manpower and equipment. Would the US army do that ? The Russians are pressurising the north and threatening to take back Kharkhov oblast. Hence, the Ukrainians cannot remove troops from the north to the south. The war is lost. The blame game has started.

  11. Six-day wars are over for Israel. It is best for the Palestinians to wage a war of attrition. Israel cannot take casualties and win a prolonged war - as observed in the last war with Hizbollah which went on for one month, and the Hizb was able to keep up and fire missiles everyday. At best, Gaza entry will lead to a stalemate, with objectives only partially met; and at worst, it will be a debacle with Israeli soldiers and captives killed. And if a second or third front opens up, and it is also attritional war, then Israel will have to climb down and accept a ceasefire.

  26. Kuleba asks people should ask what Putin will accept. He should know that Putin's demand was simple : Ukraine remains neutral as it said it would in its Declaration of Independence. Ukraine was given independence on the understanding it will be neutral and not join in any military alliance against anybody. But it sought to gang up with US against Russia - and lost. Kuleba should also know that it was Ukraine that accepted an agreement in Turkey and walked away due to Boris Johnson. At that time Putin warned Ukraine next time you come for negotiations, it will be on Russian terms. If Ukraine had not reneged on neutrality, it would have all of it including Crimea. Russian terms now are Ukraine has to surrender Donbass AND cannot join NATO. That is unconditional surrender. Or war goes on.

  32. What he means is the pain felt by the EU citizens, but he cannot say that, so he has to say he cares for ordinary Russian citizens. He does not have to worry about the second. The Russians are patriotic and make sacrifices for their motherland when they have to, unlike westerners.

So don't be immature. Size of GDP is a factor; but what is in that GDP matters. Russia is a power, Korea is a dependent of the US.

As for Challengers not being destroyed in Iraq, that did not make them special. They were against much weaker opposition. Now, we shall see what they are up against. I suspect they will meet the same fate as the Leopards. And the Abrams will follow.

  42. I remember at the start of the war, western experts were claiming with glee that Russia had not achieved air superiority (unlike the west in Iraq) and this showed their incapability. Now we are hearing from Zelensky Russia has air superiority, and can watch what is happening all over Ukraine and target from the air. Russia is showing what combined attack means - with drones, helicopters, artillery, navy, missiles, hypersonic missiles....The west has no experience in this, but is telling Ukraine what to do. The west feels NATO has a superior fighting force based on fighting Iraq and Afghanistan, who did not have counter weapons.

  45.  @JamesMacPh  Ukraine was given independence in 1991 peacefully. It was under the understanding that Ukraine would be a neutral state and not join any military alliance against Russia. In 2014, Ukraine decided to renege unilaterally on the commitment it gave Russia, by seeking to join an anti-Russian military alliance. It gave biolabs to the US and sought to give military and naval bases. It fostered a Nazi style Ukranian nationalism. Hence, due to its misbehaviour Ukraine's independence is terminated. Russia's stand now is unconditional surrender of Nazi Ukraine (like Nazi Germany), or it ceases to exist as a state. There is no other choice. When a peace settlement was negotiated 2 months of the war in Turkey, it listened to BoJo and Biden's orders to fight on. Ukraine was given independence, it chose to become a vassal of the US. It has no one but itself to blame for its end.

You are taken in by Modi and Indian media's projections that India has become some sort of Hindu superpower. Modi's appeal is to Hindus who regard him as a Hindu god. He shows off his Hinduness and that is the basis of his appeal, nothing more. If Modi has done so much development, why does his party organise attacks against minorities at election time ? If he was confident of what he has done, he will be able to win elections on development alone. India aspires to be a great power like China, Russia, the US. But it cannot be. I have visited India and it is like a giant slum. I asked a Modi supporter, a Hindu in the north, what Modi has achieved that improved his life. He said 'nothing', but for us, he is the first Hindu king in 1000 years.
