It takes another 20 years for the invaded country to recover. So people end up having to stay 40 years and by that time, they have families and become local.

Anyway, how did the Storm Shadow change Ukraine's counter offensive ? 2 months later, they are still floundering. Russia destroyed the Leopards and Bradleys. So many of them, that the suppliers of the Challengers asked them not to be sent to the front !

  19. Ukraine was preparing for 8 years with NATO but got beaten to a pulp. It will be the same for Lithuania. Small and weak countries often ally themselves to a protector and then feel emboldened to taunt above their weight against a powerful state. Eventually, they get a severe beating.

Russia will destroy it on the spot. I was disparaging the vain talk of these countries. All these European countries, Germany, Lithuania, Poland....are useless. All of them want to fight Russia, but don't have the ability.

  24.  @robertscott961  No, I do not think the others want to die for Lithuania. NATO has not prevailed in Afghanistan, Ukraine or anywhere else. It depends on the US. If Russia moves in, the US public can understand that Lithuania and EU provoked it, and it is not worth US servicemen dying or US cities being razed.

  29.  @johnwayne-kd1pn  What you are saying is logical but there are practical difficulties. On the first point, sending war refugees back once war is over is not easy. Iraq and Afghanistan wars were over long before 2010. But the refugees have grown up in Europe, UK etc., they have families and children who have grown up here, so what do you do ? There are no Nazi solutions. 'US is saying Europe should pay for defence etc and that they should bill us, we should say the US should pay for the people who had to flee from US wars to Europe'. Europe has been entwined with the US. In some of these wars pioneered by the US, Europe has been a tacit supporter - for example, in the Israel wars with Palestine and neighbours. The UK created the Palestine problem, but they have never tried to solve it - it supports Israel. The Israeli historian Ilan Pappe says that Israel was the European solution to a European problem, at the expense of making Palestinians refugees. The French have colonial wars still in Africa. Europe did not go with the Iraq war, but UK was a key mover. Different parts of Europe have to bill not just the US, but also each other. In Europe itself, there was a genocide of the Bosnians by he Serbs, and Europe did not do anything. Take the Ukraine war. The US, UK and Europe have been active partners in NATO expansion. The Ukraine war has brought 9 million refugees. Ukraine is destroyed, so it would be difficult to send the Ukrainians refugees back. They would not be going to Ukraine, they will be going to Russia. The US is the main culprit. It created many wars in the Latin America - and it faces a refugee problem. However, Europe is not unique in the refugee problem. The US led Afghan war created massive refugee problem for Pakistan. The US war in Vietnam brought some boat refugees but neighbours like Cambodia, Laos soaked a lot up. They do not complain, they took them. Lot of Palestinian, Lebanese etc. refugees are in the Gulf states, Turkey etc. but they do not create a hue and cry. Europe is too highly embedded with the US, so it has to share the problems.

  30.  @lettuceha3368  Ukraine has also sold 35% of its agricultural lands to three US companies (Cargill, Monsanto etc.). Even the most corrupt countries have not done that. As for joining NATO, Russia will not allow it. Putin said even in the middle of the war that Russia does not object to Ukraine joining the EU as that is a business alliance. NATO is an anti-Russian military alliance and Russia will not let the US use bases in Ukraine to threaten Russia. That is final and if Ukraine needs a nuke strike to understand that, so be it.

But Poland quoted astronomical prices to Germany, so it led to a break out of recriminations ! Poland did not want to miss out in profiteering from Germany. Now Germany is considering setting up a repair workshop in Lithuania. This is NATO unity for you. They will be repairing the survived vehicles in time for Ukraine's next offensive.

  33. You need to take cut in living standard, so the US arms merchants can sell arms to the US govt. which then forwards them to Ukraine. The UK's aid is not for Ukraine, but for the US (the beneficiary are the US shareholders of Lockheed). That is the part of the cost of the special relationship with US, you are supposed to accept that, otherwise you will not be free.

  46. Of course they are not going to admit the true losses as it will undermine IDF morale further. For the Palestinians and their supporters, the best is to fight an unending war of attrition and wear down Israeli morale. Israel simply does not have the manpower to sustain an open ended war. The IDF is not trained to fight prolonged land wars against equipped armies. They can fight from the air because they have an air force; and they can fight against unarmed Palestinian children and women, who do not have army or air force. But not against a well armed and experienced guerrilla force. When they are faced with a land war with a well armed and experienced guerrilla force, their casualties will be high and their morale will drop. 500,000 high value Israelis have migrated. For the remaining, make their life so insecure that they too think of going back to where they came from. That is now possible with drones and missiles which are getting passed the Iron Dome. The Israeli economy cannot support a sustained war and even US aid will not be enough.
