  1. The EU is not interested in having Scotland on the basis of security. That's NATO's job. Turkey is similar. A bridge or tunnel is a fantasy. It would cost WAY too much. We wouldn't be allowed into the EU, much less the Euro. Instead we would be strung along like Turkey forever. The EU doesn't want us, they just want to break up the UK as revenge for Brexit.

  4. I really don't think that it will matter that the Chinese people will take such a huge loss when their property market tanks. The demographics are so bad that the number of Chinese people is going to decrease rapidly. This will be hugely accelerated by a very deep recession/depression, civil war, famine and/or invasion of Taiwan/war with the USA. Everything of any value in China will go to zero.

  6. ​ @spoddie Maybe the same reason that armies which have anti tank missiles have tanks? Battleships have big guns, which are often useful. Also battleships cost a lot, take a long time to build and last a long time, so while you may decide not to make many more after air power proved itself superior, they didn't get rid of them immediately.

  10. I don't think that there are enough of them, they're old and Russian companies are extraordinarily corrupt - it's a gangster economy. Any modern plant, like a compressor or even a large valve is Western and try getting them serviced or replaced now. Also even the Russians are appalled by Chinese equipment which could substitute. Yeah, Russian oil and gas is slowly going to disappear. They're already starting to import refined products from Belarus. Beyond the Urals is safe from Ukrainian attacks (for now), but the Trans-Siberian Railway is already running at capacity. Russia is in a very bad strategic situation IMHO. All the best.

  11. ​ @christofferdh  The current electoral system of Germany was constructed so that West Germany could never be politically unified. This was acceptable to the allies and also to the West Germans who were terrified of the Soviets. Germany focused on becoming rich instead and then on controlling Europe via creating and then funding the EU. If America leaves NATO they will have to reform their political system to be able to get stuff done, or look for another sugar daddy, like France... or Russia. 😂

  20. Because in Iran's case nearly having nuclear weapons is a much better place to be than actually having them. Once they actually have nuclear weapons we would probably find out that Israel has a LOT more nukes than we suspect simply by counting mushrooms from space. Iranians are crazy totalitarian religious fanatics, not fools... currently... I think. Though they could easily be fools too. It's hard to tell to be honest. 🤣

  28. Firstly, without German funding and US support (as shown in Ukraine) is there actually much future for the EU? If Trump pulls out of NATO then I don't think that the EU stands a chance. Times are changing and fast.

  29. ​ @dingus6317 France will demand to be in charge, but I don't think that the EU in any form can survive losing Germany, the biggest financial contributor. France will likely form a new smaller and more financially robust union, with France calling ALL of the shots, take it or leave it. They may even offer other countries, or parts of countries the option to become a part of France. France is the only member of the EU with nuclear weapons (currently, looking at you Sweden!). They can provide security, food, energy and a functional economy. We are IMHO going to return to the a Europe of nation states.

When is the Western world going to wake up and stop putting profits before people and society (no I'm not a communist), because the vast majority of people I known who delay having children (which inevitably leads to less children in total) or have lost hope in having children, getting married or just starting a relationship are doing so because they simply can't afford to. People have literally had the life sucked out of them and it must stop before our society dies. WAKE UP!

  40. We have a winner! Most economists concentrate on the supply side and take demand for granted. Demographics dictate the cycles, because having children is where fixed demand originates. Old folks don't spend and the older they get the less they spend. Try doing that when you are responsible for children - it doesn't work.
