  19.  @jinchuriki7022  You are so wrong with that comment. Just over 80% of the poor settlers who took up land in that area made a go of it. They suffered droughts, fires, and the Kelly's continually stealing their stock, but they succeeded. So why didn't the Kelly's. Ellen Kelly and Red Kelly never worked their land. Ellen ran a prostitution racket and a sly grog shop, and Red was a drunk. Most of the Kelly's neighbours were Primitive Methodists who worked hard, did not drink alcohol etc. and they succeeded. What about James Whitty. Irishman who landed in Victoria illiterate and penniless. He worked hard and did extremely well. He was not the only one who succeeded beyond expectations. There were lots of jobs around that Red or Ned could have taken up to bring in funds. They turned to a life of crime of their own volition, Christian.

  34.  @biggiedickson  Most of the poor settlers that took up land offered by the government on excellent terms made a go of it. Many, like Whitty, who came from Ireland penniless, worked hard and made good. He has a significant estate when he died. He was not the only one.

  40.  @Khrxn  Pardon me? Caring for his friends? He organised the murder of Aaron Sherritt, who was his friend. After robbing banks of a huge amount of money, not one penny of that was given to his mother or his sisters, who were seen in Benalla dressed in rags and skinny. It was a police officer who saw their plight and raised funds from the public to help them. Funds were given to the storekeeper, so his siblings could we dressed and fed. So much for your comment of Kelly caring for his friends and family. He did nothing of the sort.
