LOL. This is the sum of the geopolitical situation in the Caucasus.

This was a great video on why Turkey acts the way it does. Another YouTuber who has also dived into this topic is Kraut. Kraut has made three long videos (about 4 hours long in total) on: The history of Turkey - from a nomadic people to a nation-state. How modern Turkey's internal politics came to be. It's role and perspective in NATO. And how Turkey projects its foreign policy the way it does.

"Why North Korea is Preparing to Attack Ukraine Next" is absolute click-bait. I only saw this video because of the original title, if I had seen this title first I would have clicked "Not Interested".

The strangest for me is the stark difference between Russia's ELEVEN time zones vs China's singular time zone. Even more so because they are both centralized civilization states that share several longitudes.
109
@sultanofsick Understandable. As a long-time fan of this channel, it's disappointing.

The NK military couldn't successfully engage anyone in battle even if it came down to a conventional war. They are more of a glorified security & engineering force with nukes.
65
Aye. You finally did the video on Pine Gap! It's funny how the base is supposed to be classified and super secretive but it is still so famous. Pine Gap even has a Netflix Limited Series about it called... "Pine Gap".

The old title, "Why Turkey is NATO's Biggest Internal Threat", was more accurate to the subject matter of this video. "NeoOttomanism" as a concept to describe a new empire centered in Turkey is unrealistic and imprecise. A better description: Turkey's geopolitical ambition is to leverage its strategic positioning between Europe, Asia, and Africa to project power as a nation-state, not as an empire. A feasible but hard ambition to achieve. So an alt title can be: "How Turkey is Rising as a Great Power"
37
The "Rump State" that was originally left for the Turks was a much smaller area, south of the Black Sea, and with no Mediterranean coastlines.

@ILikeMyPrivacytbt War mongerer

Actually, most Ukrainian refugees overwhelmingly want to return to their homeland once free and peaceful. And I presume Russians that have fled would want to return -- that is, if there was a change in government and better opportunities.
28
This video is the best way to understand with nuance what led the Middle East to its current state (and bonus points for covering ISIS on Nebula). Great job all around. At this point, I feel like you have earned the title, 'Geopolitical Historian'.
23
Turkey like: 'Yall wanna make an island out of the most historic capital in the world? It's good for our country ; D ".
22
Well, France DID pull out of NATO's Unified Military Command for 43 years. Only joining again in 2009.
22
A holiday, huh?
14
@DukeofAuerstadt77 He's American, so he had to rely on what the American Education System taught him. Poor guy.
13
@magicmamba915 LMFAO how sway? Very ignorant pov, don't you think?
12
Divide and Conquer. Divide and Rule.
11
Actually, the last African Humid Period (Green Sahara & Arabia) began 14,500 years ago and ended around 6000 years ago.
10
yea... it only took the brutally authoritarian rule to get it back up. I'm talking about the PRC, I mean they did get their start from Lenin's Red tactics. Hence, Maoism.
10
@trndsttr7585 Actually, using this topic as an example, he did years of research to create 4 hours of content on Turkey. It was very thorough, well-investigated, and well-analyzed. Kraut does have very interesting biases that make it great for subjective videos. But he often also put his bias aside to make objective content (ie: Turkey videos).

Real Life Lore's coverage of the Tigray War is nothing but dishonest. It fails to bring the Tigray Genocide, mistakes the cause of the war, oversimplifies the geopolitical situation, and acted like most of the causalities weren't innocent Tigrayan civilians. I can no longer endure this channel's hour long ramblings. RRL has slowly been losing credibility this past year, and this video made lose all trust in this channel. Seriously, what has this channel turned to. I miss the Toyota Correllas and videos that were actually concise.

Even Antarctica used to be a lush archipelago once. But that was tens of millions of years ago. @@twinturboray
8
So true. Turkey is in a Cold War with Russia, but also in a diplomatic war with most of NATO.
8
In all honesty. Current Poland under NATO has the best geopolitical placement in all of Polish history.
8
He didn't even drop it, the belt snapped😭 I would be crying if that happened to me in one of Putin's parades.
8
It's neither. It's the fact that geography doesn't obey imaginary lines.
8
Actually, this notion (at least in the sense of unity) was proposed and spearheaded by the former and late Prime Minister of Ethiopia but too many outside/foreign influences made sure that would happen time and time again.
8
I appreciate that about this channel. It tries to cut back on the misinformation and prioritize the facts. Hell, if they don't feel like they have enough information on a topic, they just don't do the video.
8
@maas1208 "BoTh SiDeS", huh. Oh, I'm sorry. Are you some type of a geopolitical expert that should school us? I'm sure you would say the same about the States of Israel and Palestine.
7
@braynstorm3149 I am a student of political science. You know want to something about realpolitik? Democracies supporting other democracies under attack are strengthening their own national interest and values.
7
@enesyakac I don't know who you are nor was I talking to you. But whoever you are, arguments aren't won by making blanket statements without citing evidence. You can claim that the Sun is a square if you want, but you can't prove it. Also, you are the only one superimposing your opinions.
7
So... (oversimplied) one reason is that the Azeri Regime needs a war and/or crisis to survive... and Armenia is the easiest catalyst.
7
@mohammedz8740 As an American Architect, I guarantee that when buildings get built in the US, there are always a shit ton of labor laws and regulations that need to be kept in mind. A Saudi Architect couldn't be able to relate.
7
A perfect storm of calamity if you will. But, humanity has been through worse, and there is always light at the end of the tunnel. (Maybe that last line should have been a different metaphor...)
7
In a world of nuance and complexity, North Korea sure can make things simple. The Kims are like cartoon villains.
7
@adityasinghjadoun6675 They said the "Indian version", not the equivalent in quality. So maybe you are bullshitting.
6
@中国伟人习金平 I know for sure that "our Great China" is a statement of propaganda. Is the large number of human rights violations make it great? What about the imperialist expansion of China's influence? What about the promised threats to Taiwan, Nepal, and Mongolia that violate international law?
6
@AJ-sw8uf The analysis is still pretty factual and evidence-based, despite the occasional misrepresentation of the truth. I like how there is an effort to balance out the bias by trying to stress all the nuances.
6
I was like, "Isn't BART highspeed rail?" And LMFAO, boy was I wrong. "Highspeed rail" can be defined as traveling at an average of 120~150mph with a peak of 190-200 mph. Meanwhile, BART is sweating buckets just to travel at an average of ~35 mph with a maximum of ~70 mph. Living in the States rly is a mixed bag...
6
When a foreign country takes a US idea and makes it more American.
6
Tell that to your government. I'm Tigrayan and the Ethiopian Government, with popular support, joined hands with Eritrea to commit the Tigray Genocide. Now it wants to invade Eritrea. Don't fool yourself. Ever since Abiy came to power, Ethiopia has wanted war.
6
@cupofjoen If you immigrate to from Indonesia, Darwin might be similar for you. And if you want a big change of environment, Adelaide or Sydney are cool. And if you feel VERY adventurous, there is nothing more like 'miles of isolation ' than Pine Gap.
6
All Ukraine needs is to get semi-amphibious vehicles. I suspect that will be requested by Ukraine to be used in the next offensive (next year probably).
5
@Kraut_the_Parrot probably loved seeing the Danube River's geopolitical significance being appreciated like this. He made a video at the start of this year talking about how the neglected geography of the Danube was Europe's future in industry and trade.
5
Now imagine Canada with baren & arid soil, on the other side of the world, disconnected from the rest of North America, and HOT as hell.
5
honestly their resilence is admirable, plus it hasn't reached a bloody war yet so that's also a positive
5
The US Military only really came in after the Cold War ended, especially after 9/11. The USAF is only responsible for its role in the 21st-century conflicts, but not the prior centuries.
5
and they both are islands too
4
@jashsylde8136 Exactly. It pains that human rights and democracy isn't the bigger picture in diplomacy.
