Mostly. I'm not down with the love for Ronald Reagan, and Mona Charen's takes often bug the yell out of me (in that I'm often yelling at the screen when she's on).

Hubris is also a powerful aphrodisiac.
3
Those were cops - not necessarily the "good guys".
3
@ridethecurve55 When agreeing with someone 'yep' is all you need.
3
Feels like every day is April first with Trump and the fools he's trying to put in positions of power.
3
This one too - Slava Ukraine!
3
@NeoNoggie Trump is a politician because he ran for and was elected to public office - none of which has anything to do with my original post, so I don't know what point you're trying to make but it's obviously wrong. There are plenty of people who want to be elected to political office when they grow up and are involved in school politics, work as political interns, and earn college degrees and take jobs that will help them achieve that goal. Sure, there are others that decide to run for office later in life and become politicians then. But I'd generally prefer someone who pursued a life of public service to one of self-service as is the case between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump.

@hollandanish5557 Not sure who you are referring to but the pardon they are talking about was for Daniel Perry who murdered Garrett Foster, a white 28-year-old Air Force veteran who was protesting at a Black Lives Matter rally in Austin in 2020. Garrett was engaged to a Black woman, but he was a white guy.

I get that there are problems with Biden and the Democrats, but stop comparing this to Watergate. That's really unhelpful especially since this is nothing like Watergate. Might as well be comparing it to when they tried to get Reagan to resign when his mental state was collapsing - oh, that's right. That didn't happen.
3
There's this guy with scythe called the Grim Reaper... (guess it could be a woman but it's commonly depicted as male)
3
Pretty sad that any of them are married. What is wrong with those women?
3
It's wild to think about the amount of work the next administration is going to have to do to root out all the Trump loyalists. Even if a few qualified people get caught up in the removal of these people, none of them should be allowed to remain in their jobs for one second after Trump is out of office.
3
It's a similar problem in way too many places. Texas, Ohio, and Florida are all good examples. The big cities are by and large more liberal than the rural parts but the rural parts are running the show and setting the conservative agenda for the state.
3
Good job MAGA - this is what you voted for.
3
I just hope this excitement lasts until November 5th. And maybe whatever October surprise happens it happens to the Trump campaign. It would be nice of his luck runs out this year, he looses the election bigly, and ends up going to prison - not necessarily in that order.
3
Very well written and spot on.
3
You should be. Brooks is an apologist and a neo-con. Those people are awful.
3
Hell yeah! The graduating class of '86 (and probably '76) used that too. I'm guessing there were variations for other years like "sex is fun" for the '01 years, "sex is heaven" for the sevens, "sex is great" for the eights, and "sex is divine" for the nines. I can't think of any good rhymes for the other years.
3
It's not even all that hard - just vote. Do a little bit of research about who and what is on the ballot then spend a few hours out of one day standing in line to do your most basic of civic duties - or you can avoid the lines and vote early. And it takes even less time if you are lucky enough to have mail-in voting.
3
Centrists? Gotta check that podcast out! I tend to be in the center but right on some things and left on others with the occasional far-sided opinion here and there.
3
Absolutely no scandals in his background? Good luck with that.

10:25 - Sarah seems to forget that all the media wanted to talk about was how old Biden was and make fun of the times he misspoke and when he tripped on the stairs of Air Force One all while generally normalizing Trump's lies and nonsense and ignoring Project 2025. Tens of millions of engaged voters were clear about how much the Biden administration was getting done, but there were millions more disengaged and/or misinformed voters who either voted for Trump or didn't vote at all. JVL is absolutely right to hate the voters, but he should hate the media even more.

I'll catch hell for this but I'm going to say it. There are good guys with guns. There are people who are responsible, civilian gun owners who have been able to protect themselves and others because they were armed. it's part of what makes this whole debate so much more difficult. I'm all for laws about background checks and waiting periods for both guns and ammunition, minimum age requirements, licensing and ongoing training requirements for ownership, high capacity magazine bans as well as outright banning certain firearms, and I'd include some form of psychological screening pre-checks as well as making the penalties for violating gun violence laws much stronger. But as long as there are criminals using guns the rest of us who want and are able to defend against those people need to be armed as well because as we've seen from law enforcement - we can't count on the police to be there to help us.

@grisall I'm not denying the existence of the electoral college and that it is used to determine who is elected the President. But the people in the states cast votes for who will be the candidates in the primaries and then they cast votes for the candidates in the general election in November, right? So if enough people in a state vote for one candidate over the others then that's the candidate that gets the electoral college votes for that state. So in fact, the people in a state are indeed still determining which candidate gets the electoral college votes from their state (unless the delegates go against the wishes of the voters which doesn't happen very much). The overall volume of the national popular vote doesn't matter, but the popular vote in each state most certainly does. Seems like my lousy public school education worked out well enough to run circles around your stale talking points.

@357magnum-b8e Thanks brother!

Most Republicans probably don't Ike to hear it but Reagan is very much responsible for the eventual rise of Trump. Regarding the Amnesty legislation, I expect the political math was that the people provided amnesty to would be grateful to the Republicans and be like the Cuban refugees in Florida, winning them millions of new voters. And ending the Cold War and opening Russia up to the West would be Reagan cementing his legacy as the president who won the Cold War. Reagan also did a lot of really terrible things like breaking the unions, ignoring the HIV/AIDS crisis and turning it into an epidemic, closing down mental hospitals and putting many of those patients out on the street, ramping up the War on Drugs along with the CIA flooding American inner cities with crack cocaine and the Ollie North Iran/Contra scandal, abolishing the Fairness Doctrine, and the list goes on and on.
3
@dolemites_chain He's already working on the Union issue with support of the pro-labor PRO Act. But I hadn't heard about any problems surrounding the G-aza subject. I looked it up and it seems like a bit of a mixed history there, but you're right. There is friction about that. I don't know if any of the VP contenders will have a clean record when it comes to the conflict. But I feel like he's still got a lot of other positives that I think are keeping him in play. It will be interesting to see who ends up sharing the ticket with Harris. I'm getting 2008 vibes from this race now.

The perfect position so that Trump can "service the account" (RIP George Carlin)
3
The Dark Lord and The Mistress of Despair - and I'm here for it! Make it hurt so good.
3
"Enablers and collaborators" - perfect description of the MAGA politicians and public officials. I don't agree with a lot of her politics and it's a unfortunate she ever bought into his BS enough to vote for him in 2016, but at least she figured it out. Better late than never.
3
"You gotta pay. You gotta pay your bills."
3
Not really - the sale or bartering of peoples vote has a long and storied tradition in US politics - elsewhere as well. Politics has always been a dirty business practiced by people of low morals and even fewer scruples. (let's see if this version makes it past the word police and stays up)
3
So when Trump threatens Zuck and Bezos they give him a million dollars, but if I do it I'd get a visit from law enforcement. Man, it really is good to be the king.
3
@MarkDalbey-cv9sb A vocal A-MEN to all of that!
3
Said it another post, I wish the Bulwark would do a full episode deep-dive on Project 2025.
3
In the 80's Reagan was godlike to everyone except Steven and anyone with a conscience. When it comes to Reagan I'm with Killer Mike. He's got a whole song about the guy and it's 💯.
3
She's brought that 2008 Hope and Change energy to the race.
3
I've wondered this myself more than once, but I suspect they feel like changing anything would look like a sign of weakness. Personally I think there's a valid argument for doing it as the Dems need to think about who they are going to run in 2028. IMO Kamala Harris was always a poor choice for a variety of reasons, but there's no way she's going to be able to be their winning candidate in a few years time. I think they should go into the convention with someone new like Hakeem Jeffries or Katie Porter.
3
Right? It's Austin - not El Paso. There's a river running through the middle of town as well as various springs and a big ass lake just to the west of it. Lot's of humidity comes from those when the temperature starts to climb.
3
If it's all part of God's plan then God is indeed responsible for everything including the sins of men. There wouldn't even be sin if God hadn't provided the opportunity in the first place. How did an all knowing, all seeing being not see that whole original sin thing coming? It's a nutty origin story.
3
Digging Charlie's lapel pin. "You rebel scum!"
3
A.B. should have her own regular Bulwark show.
3
I would love to see Sen Kelly as our next president.
3
I was completely on the side of Israel after the October 7th attack and I still stand with Israel. But the IDF has killed so many civilians in Gaza and the fighting is clearly doing more harm than good and also doing more long term damage to the reputation and security of Israel that I'm now at the point where Israel needs a ceasefire. Obviously the hostages need to be returned and Hamas and others need to stop attacking Israel, but that doesn't mean that Israel shouldn't do the right thing and stop making the situation worse. They also need to stop taking Palestinian homes and creating settlements on the West Bank.
3
@christinarose3002 Moderates are establishment centrists from both the political left and the political right. Liberals can be establishment centrist moderates or be part of the political left depending on the political cause and candidate. Progressives tend to be exclusively on the political left. Both Liberals and Progressives usually vote for Democrats as they are pragmatic enough to recognize that Democrats are usually their only real choice to beat the Republican candidate or defeat conservative ideas and policies.
3
People saying they won't forget what Biden has done supporting Israel and wont vote for him in 2024 seem to have forgotten Trump's Muslim ban and that a second Trump term would probably be even worse for Palestinians and most people from Arab nations. Biden isn't perfect but he's a hell of a lot better on the subject of the Middle East than old Bankrupt Donny would be.
3
@6ug0ut Agreed! They should have to stick to teaching gigs and the lecture circuit. Plus they'd have a lifetime pension to draw on.
3
I admired Christie's speech when he dropped out of the race, but if you watched the speech he clearly had written down notes about what he was going to say.
3
“Well, personally I kind of want to slay the dragon.”
3
@duArtj And they'll blame anyone and everyone except him.
