Rikers? Make it so! (sadly the most a former president would get is house arrest but even that would be something to see)
4
Gotta love the patriarchy.
4
@DanA-nl5uo Buffalo are magnificent and useful beasts. More like lemmings (even though they really don't - frelling Disney).
4
It's a woke Lefty thing - hopefully it will pass.
4
It's like we need some kind of worldwide united organization that helps make sure people everywhere have enough to eat and access to clean water and modern medicine and healthcare.
4
@wbafc1231 If anything, I'm blaming Trump for not pardoning him when Trump had praised Assange and certainly made it sound like he though Wikileaks was doing a great thing. All I'm really doing is calling out old Bankrupt Donny's hypocrisy and doing a bit of low-brow poop-posting.
4
Who is Amy Goodwin? Isn't she the Mayor of Charleston, WV?
4
"The glory of god" - really? How about an allahu akbar while you're at it? Religion poisons everything.
4
So Assange was being spied on by the people giving him sanctuary? Damn! That's some next-level evil at play. I don't think the Catholic church would stoop that low and their a bunch of child rapists and such. I don't have proof, but I have little doubt agencies with the letter "I" in the acronym were involved all the way through - not just as recipients of the collected data. Wish my taxes would stop being spent on this kind of crap.
4
Nice metric. Like most things, Old Bankrupt Donny doesn't do history very well. And if someone dropped that little nugget for him to use instead of it being his own brain fart, it's a shame they didn't take a minute to Google "did Turkey fight during World War 2". Didn't fight at normandy - what an idiot.
4
Alfred Wang The same reason (some) asian people or black or latinx or whatever ethnic background they come from are evil and do cruel and horrible things to other people. There are a lot of broken people in the world. Often they are drawn to jobs that let them control and, if they can get away with it, harm others. And no, a lot of them can't feel shame or they are able to justify it away - it's part of why they are so broken.
4
Gotta rake those forests! That'll fix it!
3
Small town values on full display. Way to go Kansas!
3
Evil. Other words could be used as well, but that one word is a good start.
3
2:48 - why are they thanking God for the verdict? Wouldn't it have been better if God had caused the shotgun to misfire or otherwise have kept Ahmed in his families life? If there it's a God it's doing a shit job.
3
Stop having children - or at least stop at one.
3
Arrested for trying to help to spread a virus there is no cure for yet during a pandemic. In case you couldn't tell, that was what stupidity looked like. Kind of like the idiots coughing on produce, baked goods, and meat at grocery stores.
3
Climate change deniers will never accept that the climate is in crisis. And sorry to be ageist but there are too many geriatric politicians from both parties in office.
3
@billiamc1969 It's all part of the same thing. Distraction, distraction, distraction.
3
@BOLT CHARGER17 It's not a partisan problem. You run into the same issue in most states - fears of lowering property values for other homeowners, and that's a common fear among Dems and Repubs. If you can find some county that is losing lots of tax revenue due to depopulation there is a lot more room for building outside of the codes for size (etc.), but most places make it hella difficult to impossible (without lots of money and/or friends with influence).

In general there aren't good answers to your questions yet. If at some point we can develop brain scanning technology for both the accused and the accuser that would be a start, but we are years or decades away from that - if ever. But retraumatizing someone who is a legitimate victim of something as horrendous as a sexual assault, be that a woman, man or child, should obviously be avoided. These kinds of cases need to be tried in a different process and setting than standard legal proceedings. Perhaps it would help if the examination is done outside of the courtrooms typical adversarial structure with everyone on display and under a more clinical setting where only the judge, witness(es), attorneys and mental health professionals would be involved in the testimony and cross examination. I'm not even sure if the accused should be in the same room as the witness unless they are shielded from line-of-sight contact as this could intimidate someone who is a legitimate victim. I understand the principle of being able to confront your accusers, but maybe sexual assault cases need to be an exception to that principle. At the same time, anyone who uses sex as a tool to advance their career should be ashamed of themselves and be ostracized from that profession as they are as much a part of the problem as the person rewarding them for doing so. It's damned unfortunate how many of us are broken to one degree or another and how hungry some of us are to be famous.
3
@ppss.6302 You got that right! We can be awesome but so often are just crap. It's almost like there is an effort from somewhere to drive wedges that divide and pit us against one another, and that convince us to do things that are against our better interests. I know, I know. I sound like a paranoid, crazy person.
3
In Texas? Good luck with that - they've got the state gerrymandered too well.
3
@danialhillmann5374 I'm sorry but you're answers and examples don't take into account the complexities of the problems. And while the Old West wasn't all that wild, it was still a very violent place in many ways for the wrong people. There is also a long history of violence and bloodshed that happened in the name of commerce and water rights in the New Mexico Territories and California or at the mining towns and camps in Colorado.
3
She's a professional journalist - one of the greats!
3
@user-em6ie2be7x It's a highly bureaucratic process that depends on the country being considered for admission. Ukraine has been a complicated country to get admitted in part because it would have triggered Putin. Ukraine staying out of NATO will probably be something he'll try to insist on when the fighting stops.
3
I hope there is a mass protest at the NRA rally in Houston this weekend.
3
@wallaceahtone6149 Thank you for posting that story. It's a solid example of how humans at our best and our worst are pretty much the same everywhere. Maybe I should leave it alone and let people be pollyannaish, but I think it's good to try and remind people of the reality of history when they start making it sound like any of our collective ancestral groups haven't done awful things to other people for terrible reasons at some point in our past. Have a good one.
3
Quit doing that closeup of Alito's face - it's making me nauseous and will probably give me nightmares.
3
The WHO has lost a lot of credibility with their back and forth BS about COVID and the way they are playing politics around this pandemic.
3
I want to know about the planes too. There could be legal problems for any company involved in providing the means of travel for illegally transporting people between states.
3
Stop withy the "OK Boomer" crap. It's a dumb insult - even worse than "Thanks Obama". FFS Bernie is even older than Boomers and he's the guy all of us Progressive/Liberal Millennials, Gen Xers, Boomers, and Silent Gens are pinning our hopes on. Besides, you are going to need those Boomers you're shittting on to help make things happen if Sanders does become president.
3
I didn't realize the Birch Society was really still a thing. Confirms everything we need to know about the lady.
3
It's how their world works - the rest of us are just meat for the grinder.
3
@rudyknoop6103 It's already way too late.
3
Bye Vice - you did some damn good work.
3
@LazyIRanch We used to say "latino" but the "x" replaces the masculine "o" in order to align with woke Left gender identity language. By doing this they both fight the patriarchy of verbal gender forms bias while also affirming that there is more than just a male and female set of genders that people identify as. In a culture famous for Machismo it might not work out too well.
3
Well, yeah. You new here?
3
@lynnbaynes2128 Good on ya for speaking truths people don't want to hear. There are abandoned pits and mines filled with poisoned water and holding ponds filled with various mixtures of toxic waste all over the U.S. just waiting to collapse or be washed into rivers and streams and wetlands. This is yet another problem that's been growing for decades that both parties have largely ignored until we're on the verge yet another catastrophic "accident".
3
There will be no social justice without economic parity.
3
Only two collaborators died building the Tar Sands poison pipe? Well, that's a shame - that it wasn't a hell of a lot more. Give it time, the body count will end up being in the millions or billions once the ravages of Climate Change makes every major storm a Cat 5 +. #deadspecieswalking.
3
@donHooligan that's a good one and socially acceptable - double-plus-good!
3
Hopefully she just has a case of the Mondays. ✌
3
Ronnie Raygun and Ollie North and Rumsfeld and Cheney and Wolfowitz (etc.) - Iran Contra in the 80's. Before that Kissinger and Brzezinskiand in the 70's. And and and...The shit never ends.
3
I can't tell if your serious or not - I'm hoping not. Let's see.
3
@sheilamacdougal4874 I'm not quoting him for his authority either but for his clarification of an earlier absolute that you chose to quote. It's the same quote and argument used by neoconservative proponents of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan against pacifists of those conflicts. It ignores the ability of someone to have two opposing thoughts in their mind at the same time and lumps people together in a all-or-nothing, black-and-white false dichotomy. This is rarely the case as individual people and their beliefs and actions are much more likely to be varying shade of grey.
3
@steventatlock5443 It's always nice to read a well written post from someone with their eyes open.
3
Unfortunately that's what real law enforcement is. You think those laws are there to protect your interests? I'd paste the Carlin bit about "It's a big club and you ain't in it." but I suspect most of us here have heard it. Sorry if that was more of a rhetorical question, my dude. It's early and the drugs haven't kicked in yet.
3
Chris Pacheco Countries are neither decent nor indecent - it's the people running and who live in them that make them that way. There are many countries -especially the larger ones - that are being run by and filled with deeply immoral people focused on their own greed and not on the needs of others.
3
You might as well be sending thoughts and prayers.
