  6.  @patricialongo5746  I'm sure some people did, but I doubt that everyone knew or knew how badly the kids were being abused. It's a lot like the church abuse with priests molesting kids. Some people knew what was going on, but plenty more didn't or didn't know the extent of it. If nothing else, this will be an attempt at making a more full accounting of what was done and that is a good thing, yes or yes?

If he'd limited it to decorating his graduation cap he probably could have done that and not had a problem. But when someone wears the actual flag of another country to an event like a graduation they have to understand that that is making a political statement just like raising a fist at the Olympics or taking a knee during the National Anthem. It's really about freedom of expression and for those of us who had the experience, we know how intolerant most schools are of students trying to express their own voice. But all of this is irrelevant. All that matters is that the kid did the work and jumped through their hoops - give him the damn diploma FFS.

  19. I felt that too, then Amy told us how the Mexican officials are still running that rail line through their sacred lands and how Mayans are still being abused in Guatemala. Reminds me of the US Native American Apology Resolution Obama signed as part of a defense appropriations spending bill back in 2009 and the Keystone pipeline debacle. Apologies don't mean much when someone keeps hitting you.

Latino/Latina is seen as limiting people to traditional male/female gender roles and giving linguistic patriarchal preference to the masculine gender form all while ignoring those who identify their gender differently or not at all. Not sure who came up with doing this, but it's been around for a bit now.

  50. Why isn't the Islamic world coming to the aid of Afghanistan? I understand why the west won't but it doesn't seem like anyone is trying to help them. And I thought China was going to be a big player in Afghanistan now the the US and other NATO troops are gone so why aren't they sending food aid and other economic assistance? China and Afghanistan share a border so it's not like they have to fly halfway around the world to get there.
