  41. Actually, the primary driver of climate change is overpopulation combined with fossil fuel extraction, energy generation and industrial and transportation emissions. The Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) reports that "[all forms of] agriculture accounted for 11 percent of U.S. greenhouse gas emissions in 2020". The pollution comes mainly from chemical fertilizers and factory farming practices. I recognize that this statistic is specific to the US, but as the US is the second largest emitter of Greenhouse gasses the numbers for the rest of the world, except China, are probably even less. China is the largest contributor to the agricultural side of this problem, but I'm not sure how the US is going to do anything about China's agricultural policies and practices without being accused of imperialism and cultural insensitivity to the needs of their people. The NRDC goes on to note that "by adopting the philosophies and methods associated with regenerative agriculture ["practiced by farmers and ranchers—especially Indigenous farmers, who have been tending the land according to sustainable principles"], we can slash emissions from this sector while boosting our soil’s capacity for sequestering carbon from the atmosphere, and producing healthier foods." This article can be found on the NRDC website under the title "What Are the Causes of Climate Change?". I'd include a direct link to the article but YouTube hasn't allow me post comments with URL addresses in the past so I don't try anymore.
