Mere appointment is not a conflict of interest. She has no interest in the outcome unless she is covertly being paid by Trump for decisions in his favor. I doubt that, but if she were she would be in real trouble.
1
His only role here that we know about was merely administrative.
1
It was denied in an unsigned order without any dissents noted. Strictly speaking, that does not mean that it was unanimous. It means that if there were justices that would have heard arguments, there were too few and they did not choose to dissent. Most petitions to the USSC are denied in this way.
1
Continuations are not unusual.
1
There is no federal parole.
1
The right strategy for the GOP is to quietly let the Democrats bury Trump (politically), then pick up the pieces and try to figure out how to rebuild their party. Are there any Republicans left who understand that?
1
Justice Thomas had no discretion. His role in receiving the petition was merely administrative. The Court acts as a body.
1
By a motion submitted to the higher court, alleging a sufficient reason for removal.
1
Only grand juries indict.

Democrats held nearly two-thirds of the Senate in the 1960s. Now they struggle to get a majority because they moved away from the center. I'm not going to list all the things they have done that have turned off moderate voters, just suggest that they had better figure out how to win elections more consistently if we are to repair the damage to the Supreme Court. By the way, Trump became President once only because Democratic voters stayed home in much greater numbers than Republican voters in 2016. You can thank disgruntled supporters of Sanders (who is not even a Democrat) for that. The Democratic Party shares responsibility for the condition of the Supreme Court by losing an election to Donald Trump.
1
One incompetent decision is a slim basis for impeachment. Impeachment is difficult unless actual corruption can be proven.
1
Don't forget that disgruntled Bernie Sanders supporters allowed it to happen.
1
Because Nixon was pardoned without having been charged with a crime, we can never know whether he would have even been convicted, let alone imprisoned. President Ford wanted the whole matter of pissible criminal culpability set aside.
1
Not likely. Trump does not take advice from attories. Not the smart ones, anyway.
1
There is no reason to keep him for life, because he is not a US citizen. When the federal BoP are done with him, he should be deported rather than turned over to California, because California would refuse to turn him over to Immigration when they were finished with him.
1
Get him a padded cell.
1
You missed his explanation of why it is a California case.
1
The 2nd impeachment was a better basis for conviction. It’s shocking that the Senate Republicans gave him a pass on an assault on the Congress. That was their best chance to get rid of him as a threat to run for office again.
1
The Democrats also send "surveys" which end in a request for a donation. I have received scores of them. I can't give the Democrats my position on anything without paying something.
1
Justice Thomas did not have any individual discretion in how he handled the petition. Why are so many people ignorant of how the Court works? It isn’t that complicated.
1
It isn’t treason. Nobody has been charged with treason.
1
One justice cannot decide anything.
1
I don't know why you would think that. I think CJ Roberts cares about the Court and doesn't like sideshows like this, but can't do anything about it, publicly. We don't know what he does privately.
1
"Mr. President"? It is incorrect to use that form of address for a former President.
1
Not fast enough.
1
Federal sentences don’t get reduced.
1
I’d like to see a gag order. Wishful thinking, of course. The way I imagine it, he won’t respect the gag order so they have to tie an actual gag on him.
1
Is anyone counting Trump's court losses for a possible Guiness record?
1
Don’t bet on that.
1
I wish these guys could make a point concisely. Where is the woman who sometimes appears here? She is an effective communicator.
1
No, it wouldn’t. You can’t charge someone for exercising her rights. The only thing that would apply is court sanctions for frivolous filings.
1
I have no use for Trump at all, but his position on Russia doesn't bother me. Presiden't Biden's involvement in the Ukraine war is the most reckless, most wrongheaded foreign policy in my long life of three-quarters of a century. It disgusts me. Russia is not our "enemy;" they are often our adversary. You may not be old enough to remember the Cuban Missle Crisis, which should be called the Turkish-Cuban Missile Crisis. President Kennedy, a thoughtful man, chose the word "adversary" instead of "enemy" deliberately. Russia was once our ally in fighting N...s. The Russians paid the greatest price in that war, so know something about N...s. Today, Ukraine is a haven for neoN...s and we are allied with them. I cannot imagine a greater irony.
1
Agnifilo is so much more efficient than the others.
1
Maddow should know that federal authorities do not routinely release booking photos.
1
Probably because so many Democrats are delusional. They believe that the Republicans have become so bad that they are bound to be losing their ability to win control of Congress. This is dangerous thinking. Many (probably most) Democrats are unwilling to look in the mirror and ask themselves “why do so many voters hate the Democrats?”.
1
Sun shining in the window "after dark".
1
Despite his place of birth, Cruz was a US citizen at birth.
1
There is nothing in the Constitution about that. The Supreme Court decides what is Constitutional. Can you cite a case?
1
No, the Nazi analogy doesn’t fit. Aspects of contemorary Republican thought are fascist — lies, intimidation, and attacks on democratic institutions. Leave it at that.
1
This is big.
1
You know what country he means, so he is communicating effectively.
1
There are many people who are happy to serve on a jury and who take the responsibility seriously. I am one.
1
She meant President at the time of the action.
1
Everybody gets credit for time served.
1
There is a party called “Independent Party,” but independents (like myself) are not associated with it. It’s a scam to call a party “independent” and it shouldn’t be allowed, but I don’t suppose anything can be done about that.
1
I doubt the Republicans will nominate him again.
1
It isn’t treason. I wish the people who are obsessed with the “T word” would learn what it means.
1
Ukraine is not a democracy. It is controlled by neofascists.
1
It is difficult to remove a federal judge. The protection against incompetent federal judges is supposed to be the confirmation process.
1
The feds don't do parole.
