Great review. Seems like the Explorer has the pep but not the polish. The SUV category is so competitive that they need to keep things as high quality as possible. These will be, however, a great deal when the ex-Police units start going on sale to the public.

Yeah given that the new BMW G05 X5s and Mercedes Benz GLEs are pushing $100k the GV70 has the potential to steal quite a few customers.
1
165k with the original water pump? If so that's impressive. I'm no stranger to German cars they do need a fair bit done to them before that magical 150k mark.
1
Enjoying the heat down in Texas?
1
It only shifts with authority in sport mode. In normal mode you can't feel a thing.
1
What watch is Zack wearing? The dial looks great.

All Nissan needs to do is listen to their customers a little more than ditch the the JATCO CVT. They nailed the design, functionality, interior and value. Any benefit CVT once had like low revs on the highway or smooth operation is now mitigated with good 6, 8, 9 and 10 speed automatic transmissions. No reason why they can't use an off the shelf Aisin 8 speed unit, that's literally all they need to do to make it a solid competitor.
1
No it's a big market for China. Base models are manufactured in China.
1
Which is why you swap them...
1
Tire are the important factor here. Tires trump the driveline when it comes to daily driving.
1
Except the C8 is a ridiculous price now because of the demand for them and dealerships won't budge on their 30% or more over MSRP. You could probably get a GTS Boxster or Cayman for less than a new C8 at the moment.
1
8:57 Zork Spinger? Is that Zack's nickname?

I love newer Mazdas but their power output is the limiting factor here. Add in some proper turbocharged motors producing 270-280HP and a good amount of torque. Heck if GM can squeeze 295HP from a turbo 4 I'm sure other manufacturers can.
1
The latest offerings from Mazda are insanely good. I like that the interior has a mix of hard buttons and a screen instead of one giant iPad glued to the dash. The last thing I want to do is dig through 5 menus to change the climate functions so this is much preferred.

I think customers (and even die hard fans) are catching on to the whole gag that Lexus/Toyota are not innovating or refreshing their cars enough with their newest models. I understand if it ain't broke don't fix it but there comes a point where these cars cost no less than the competitors yet offer nothing of substance in terms of nice design, features, usability and powertrain. Reliability might have been a hallmark for Lexus but Acura and Infiniti aren't far behind and the Germans are starting to do better in that aspect as well all while offering more features for the same cost. If you want to offer a car with older but proven powertrains and tech that's fine but lower the price to reflect that especially considering some Toyota/Lexus designs are over a decade old at this point.
1
Yep paint correction, ceramic coating both on the interior and exterior make maintenance washes and cleaning super easy. Worth the initial investment.
1
I have to agree Andrea looks great behind the wheel piloting this F150 on the road. I wonder if Ford will be able to tweak things to improve driveability.
1
It's not hard to use but it could be better. The thing is the cheaper model has a better layout and means of operating the system and other cars have it laid out better as well. The fact that this is pushing $80k it should be nearly flawless. Ask yourself this would you rather go back to an iPod with the clickwheel or new the newer iPod touch because that's the issue with the Genesis.
1
If you need that to drive then hang up the keys.
1
Exactly. There was this guy moaning on the BMW forum that the transmission is not BMW made and if there is a BMW with a BMW transmission. I wouldn't want BMW making a transmission especially considering the 8 speed ZF is the best transmission ever.
1
So buy a CX5...

I don't understand why manufacturers are neutering cars so much when they have such good potential. This Sorento should have great performance but DCTs are not known for longevity or being smooth in urban driving situations plus very weird engine behavior. The same can be said for Mazda 2.5T engines which on paper should be amazing but again, doesn't perform to their full potential.
1
@dougmartin4819 Because it's more than enough power. Sure terrifyingly fast ZR1s are brilliant but I can't complain about the Grand Sport's 436 HP.
1
American based but they have plants all over the world.
1
Usually white is a no cost option which is why it's so popular.
1
If someone needs to haul 6 others and their stuff a truck isn't going to cut it the same way a van wouldn't cut it if someone needed to tow a trailer.
1
@user-tb7rn1il3q A Suburban yes, not a pickup. You were referring to a pickup so I mentioned that specifically.
1
Right now VW is in so much trouble they're going to need to cost cut like crazy to make up for lost profits due to fines, payouts and lost business. VW has also been making some really stupid decisions as of late too. They dropped the Touareg for the Atlas which is the most overpriced, underpowered SUV available as of today.
1
@OMGWTFLOLSMH Exactly plus the non garage queen examples always drive better because they've actually been driven and maintained. The ones that just sit and sit and sit end up looking great but are leaky messes.
1
They come in other colors that show the styling more than the black would.
1
Are manufacturers purposely going out of their way to piss off customers? Big grills, fake exhaust tips and black glossy piano black trim pieces need to go. They never should have been put on a car before. I can imagine the amount of owners that will have punctured AC condenser complaints because that grill is so huge.
1
@user-tb7rn1il3q Yep. The BMW N63 regularly runs to 300,000kms without issue right? I'm sure the Audi 2.7 turbo was reliable too.
1
It's because of CAFE standards. They want to get better fuel economy all around so manufacturers are forced to take all sorts of measures to see a reduction in fuel consumption over the entire fleet. You'll notice they use low viscosity oil (0W20), start stop, cylinder deactivation, spare tire delete, automatic decoupling of the AWD system and turbocharging. All of that doesn't benefit the individual customer but lowers the fleet consumption.
1
I like the safety in modern cars and the amount of standard features you get even in base models. There was a time where AC, heated seats, power windows, power locks were expensive options but even the most basic cars have it. We paid $22k for our Nissan Kicks in 2018 and in all honesty it has everything one would need including a good safety system.
1
Great review guys and yes, the MDX is a brilliant choice. I would be curious how the upcoming model with the TT V6 will feel.
1
@normt430 Ohh single turbo just like some Porsche Macan variants. Less piping and complication.
1
@normt430 I'm referring specifically to the motor layout, not the segment.
1
Yeah the SL barely sells but they're keeping that but the iconic S Class coupe will go away. Mercedes seems more focused on either their cheap cars like the CLA and GLA then jumping right into AMG territory with nothing in between.
1
I'm not sure if Genesis vehicles will pull too many people who favor the German brands but definitely will attract customers who normally buy the Japanese or US brands. Better yet if people own Hyundais and are happy with them they might just graduate to the Genesis brand and most people I've spoken to that own a Hyundai or Kia absolutely love them.
